  • A patient and radiographer explain what to expect when you go into hospital for a CT (computed tomography) scan. It was recorded at Bedford Hospital but is relevant to anyone invited to hospital for a CT scan.
    It covers:
    • Receiving your appointment letter
    • Travelling to hospital
    • Finding your way around
    • Giving your details to reception
    • Meeting the radiographer
    • Preparing for the scan
    • Getting inside the scanner
    • Experiencing a scan
    • Waiting for your results

Lovely clear presentation. Omitted a small detail which can be worrying if you haven't been warned - that the rush of warmth might be accompanied by an urgent need to urinate. It's OK, you haven't weed, and you won't.
I've had a few CT scans at different hospitals, and perhaps I've been lucky but I've always been told exactly what is happening and will happen.

With that warmth sensation I had tachicardia, that's also normal. If anyone reading this is getting a CT, no need to worry!

I was asked to hold my breath to get clear scans, holding of breath went up to 30 seconds, that was the craziest part. And also after the scan was done I had chills and I was shivering, probably due to contrast IV, so doctor gave me another injection and I was fine after 20 mins.
