If you went to beauty school and I am certified as well.. you would know Sally’s products are bad for you. When you have your license there hair supply stores just for people with license and not to the public that have actual good dye , bleaches , and other products. Sally’s bleached literally made my hair smoke almost on fire and burned it on.

You are a real one for this. ❤️ That was super informative. Yes, you *should* go to a professional if you are able, but that's a luxury that isn't accessible to everyone. Maybe this is a chronically online take, but it seems classist to shame someone for for doing their own hair, and I think a lot of stylists need to be more understanding. Same with shaming people who aren't using salon grade products. If you're spending $60 on your hair every 4-6 weeks and $40 on your shampoo and conditioner, that adds up. Anyway, that's my soapbox rant. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

You did a wonderful job with just enough detail and anyone who pays attention and listens to this is now more informed. I really love this video. These are things I learned in school and wish everyone could know before they go mess with their hair and chemicals on them. No judgement, simply best to do a little research and you just made that a little more accessible 😊❤

Wow! Thank you, thank you THANK YOU!!!! If I could hug you through the screen, I would! So informative! You answered SO many of my questions that came to mind when watching others' videos but they never quite answered. (God bless them. No hate!)
As a newbie at-home colorer, (we can thank the economy for this) I don't know much so I do what I do best: RESEARCH. I know enough to proceed with GREAT caution and that being as well informed as possible is key. Unless you're willing to cut it all off if it doesn't work, you don't want to risk your hair over it. I've sported a cute, pixie cut with sassy 1" bangs for almost 35 years. It looks GREAT on me - but it was time: I've been growing it out for 2 years now (with frequent trims) and now it's almost to my shoulder. I'm 53. Gray hairs are definitely an issue - but I DON'T want flat, dull, all one color box dye-colored hair. Obviously, No matter what I do at home, it won't look like I have professional, tri-colored, foiled hair.
I understand (and TOTALLY believe) that the SAFEST way to color your hair is in the hands of a professional stylist. But I JUST can't afford it anymore.
So, thank you for a.) explaining things [basic stuff - I know theres a WHOLE lot more to it] clearly, b.) speaking to your audience like we're smart.
It IS chemistry...that one preforms on on top of her head! Any woman, 15 or 50 needs to be careful! But with proper instruction and care from research, we DON'T have to LOOK as broke as we are! (lol!)

    Hi Sam.
I ran across this video while doing some kind of research before going to Sally’s. I originally had natural black hair that has not been dyed 4-5 years. This past weekend I decided to dye it and I visited Sally’s and purchased ion 4rc with 40 developer like you recommended but It didn’t do any difference whatsoever. None. I am eager to try again but this time with L’Oreal hicolor since I’ve tried that brand in the past and have had success (don’t know why I didn’t go that route. I tried ion for first time ever) well it’s only been a week since my original dye. I know it can’t possibly be healthy to dye it so soon but is it the worst thing ever if I went tomorrow and tried again??? If so, is 40 too harsh again?
My hair does not feel damaged or fragile from the first go if that makes any difference.
Thank you son much in advance if you take the time to answer me.

I use permanent first on dry hair and semi after on wet washed hair. Once-twice a year permanent all over, every 4-8 weeks roots with permanent. Semi all over. Works great. I stay in my own level 6-7, with 20 volume for permanent , 10 volume works too, but not great on my greys, it washes out after 3 weeks, so 20 volume works great. Semi color + hair mask, to refresh and keep it colorful.

This was an AMAZING video. So much great information! That being said, I have a question. (Maybe you have another video addressing this…let me know if that’s the case!). I have salt & pepper hair, and want to balayage my own hair with pure white. Is there a way to do this without getting yellow? I’ve been using esalon to do this with full color and then highlights, but I’ve let my natural color grow in (the salt & pepper), and would love the accentuate the white. What products would you suggest?

Thank you for explaining semi-permanent hair dye! I knew what it was but I had questions.. would you recommend doing a root chat with a semi? My roots tend to always want to pull orangey

Thank you for the tip. They were helpful! I would like to know how to get rid of gray hair when using color? One application is not enough to remove the grays from the hair. I tried leaving the color on longer but the they still show. Stubborn grays

Hello Sam. Don't expect you to answer my question.......but I'm gonna ask. LOL. My natural hair color is dark blonde/light brown with a little gray. While I can, and did go to the salon, don't really enjoy blowing that kind of money on my super short hair ($86 for some baby lights.) It will only get more pricey as I grow it out. Anyhow............right now I have about 25% gray in my medium blonde hair with light brown roots. Golden colors turn my hair orange and ash gives me green. I was told to stick to Natural or just plain old "Blonde". I heard every word you said, but still don't know if I can get a universal lighter blonde head of hair myself. My natural color does nothing for me. Dirty dishwater. Thanks.

Very informative video. It would be helpful to people if they understood undertones and such. I'm not sure if you can do that but it took me a while to learn Color Theory. Once I did, I never looked back lol
