Excellent tutorial that's makes it look like I can do this at home! I had gone to my colorist/hairdresser every 4 weeks for the last ten years. We both retired, and I can no longer afford a monthly colorist and "need" to do this myself and haven't had a best results. Tried semi-permanent last week, and it didn't take, then tried again this morning, and it looks like crap. I will order Madison Reed, follow the video and pray. Thank you for sharing! It’s good to see a real video. Some people have a handful of grey hairs and refer to themselves as grey etc etc. I’m 90% grey at 45. So I decided to go platinum blonde lol. But I’ll hang around and watch some of your vids ❤️
I also started having a spot of grey in my early twenties. I found out when I asked my mom about my grey hair that my grandpa had a head full of grey in his teens. It is hereditary.
I'm really happy to find your DIY video, especially during the current global quarantine, and having to color my own hair (Oh No!!). Which reminds me why I miss my hairstylist so much and especially her magic scalp massages, which can cure any headache! One thing I would REALLY love to see is how Dinna blowed dried her own hair. That has always been a big problem for me to DIMyself. And what kind of hair brushes she used? Looking forward to placing my order now! Thank you
Your hair looks amazing! I’m waiting on my first order, my mom was a beautician she was so amazing with color! After I lost her to breast cancer, I really couldn’t step in someone else’s shop for a really long time! She had taught me a lot, I just started coloring my own hair, and I’ve really had some great results but now with the gray I’m finding it washes out so quickly so I’m really hoping to see better results with this 💕
Hi, Dinna. I am also a hereditary grey girl. I have a daughter with the best , most thick hair who also got this, sorry Amanda. I went blonde at age 40 due to this as I was coloring my hair every 3-4 weeks. Now, I color every 12 weeks as the white blends. Also, I went shorter. I use a Capri blonde and love it. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! I've tried so many different ways of applying my color to my roots myself and have had so much trouble. Following this tutorial has made the application so much easier. I wear glasses and don't have a good mirror setup behind me to see the back of my head while both my hands are occupied. So using the page flipping method, as well as having PLENTY of color and brushing it onto both sides of the root with each section was game changing for me. Can't thank you enough !
A little trick I use if my barrier cream doesn’t block color from staining my skin, is glycolic acid. I’m a sensitive skin type so I don’t use any AHA’s for a week prior. After I wash the color out, I use any AHA (exfoliates top layer of skin) on hairline stains. Hope that helps

I just started graying and was recommmed the pescara black and it is the best. I keep the mixture on my hair for a solid 45 minutes.starting from front to back. Loyal customer.
I love my Madison Reed color - I use LUCCA LIGHT BROWN - 7NGV - I get perfect results every time! I have a few stubborn greys and 45 minutes works great! Thank you Dinna!
When the corona virus shut everything down, I panicked. I had colored my hair when I was young, but now, I'm 71. HOWEVER, everyone has complimented me on my hair color. Got someone to check for places that I'd missed & they said there were no "places"! My hair is better than ever. This is better than what my stylist uses at his salon & he is very picky! I've already asked him if I could bring my own color, but pay him the same. That's how much I like it! He said "YES". It appears to be good for your hair!
great tutorial - it's messy for newbies like me - you make it look easy, lol. i always end up doing 45 minutes processing time with my hairdresser (who i miss right now, waaaa) but the extra processing time really does help with the stubborn grays :)
Thank you because of lockdown can’t go to hairdressers my daughter in law is a hairdresser so has given me the colour To do my own roots so will have a go today
Thanks so much for this - one big question.....aren't you supposed to run the remaining color for x time through the rest of your hair to even it out at the end or is this step just not necessary? Help!

Thank you very much for this tutorial. I just used the Madison Reed color on my hair, per your instructions, and I swear it came out same as yours! My hair has a beautiful shine and all the grey is covered. I tend to wash my hair alot (almost daily) so now I'll see how durable it is. But so far, more than happy with the excellent results and current soft, shiny condition of my hair (which is normally fine, dry, and prone to damage and frizziness).
I’ve had so many hairdressers try to scare me away from dying my own hair by warning me that special steps have to be taken before you can safely and effectively dye grey hair. You seemed to have no problems and just went straight to coloring. I guess you don’t need two or three stages after all. I don’t feel so afraid now to color my own hair at home.
I noticed that she did not continue the application down through the rest of her hair (it looked like it was only applied to the roots, with the length remaining dry). Is this only recommended for touch ups? If this is my first time using one of your colors, should I continue the color all the way through the length of my hair? Thank you!
Great explanation! I've been dying my hair for a few years now, but sectioning the hair in 4 parts seems to be quite practical... I'm gonna do it and I'll let you know the results... 😀😀
@@jessi2077 Don't colour, go grey naturally. Absolutely horrible to have to touch it up all the time because of a solid demarcation line. I also started going grey early and regret ever dying my hair.
Can you show a person doing root only touch up on short layered hair?. I find this very time consuming and hard to do myself. Most tutorials show long straight hair.
Hi Dinna, just seen your tutorial and really enjoyed it and yes learned from it in a few ways, 🙏 THANK YOU! Where can you get a level five hair dye? Do you sell them? The dyes I’ve used cover my hair pretty much but there’s those areas that come out this strange color, more with a grayish tone I guess I’m saying. Your hair color looked so deep, rich, shiny and healthy. But most of all your color looked true all the way around, very evenly. It looked beautiful and you did a awesome job! Can you advise me ? Cici
I love how you went step by step. One question though....it didn't appear you did the rest of your hair. So how long do you leave the color on for the resistant gray BEFORE you color the rest of your hair? Or do you leave it all on for the 45 min?
Morning, and thank you for reaching out to Madison Reed. We'd love to help you find your perfect match and have a few questions for you in order to give you the best possible personalized consultation. 1) What is the texture of your hair? (Normal, Fine, Coarse) 2) What is your porosity? (Is your hair dry or in good condition?) 3) What is your natural hair color (Medium brown, Light brown, Light blonde, etc) 4) Do you have any gray? (What percentage?) 5) What is your desired result? You can send this to us in a private message, and we can consult with you on the best way to move away from black hair color. 💜
Hi, today I will do the following... I have been dying my hair dark brown with the age defy box. I bought dark blonde natural from Loreal preference and will mix it with 2 or 3 package of ardell red, gold, corrector. I have a lot of greys on the root like you. Should I start from the ends and then to the root or start from the root and then the whole hair? Please advise. Thank you.☺
Thank you for this post. I do the same, but getting to the back is tedious. Result: All my hair at the bottom is naturally streaked and the top nicely covered. Going to try your technique for the back.
Do you use a hair cap when you're waiting the 45 minutes? Also I only saw you use the brush on the scalp grey, what about the rest of the hair shaft? Even if it's not grey, wouldn't you want it all to be the same color?
Dina..u were awesome..that was the most helpfull video i have seen..infact u were more help then the women who do my hair normaly..bc of surgery im unable to go..so im tryin it myself..ur video covered all my questions..n more..u were right to the point on time..thanks so much !!!!...
I have used a product i add to my color..its called.."gray b gone"...as my whole head is white..believe me when i tell u..this adds coverage as u no ??..those gray n whites r resillent to color..but try this..it works for me...u can buy it at sallys or ulta
Love your video, you gave really good advise for coloring. Could you give me some advise for doing the back of the hair. I have a mirror front and back, but have a problem splitting the sections to cover all the greys
I do it with the bottle. I put my head to my knees and go with the bottle each half cm from neck to front. From right to left. Or from left to right. Like you want. At least I go to the front and look where colour is missing. Then a bit massage with cloves, that the colour is everywhere. I need 60 minutes to wait, or my grey hair keeps grey. And I look fresh again. 😉 Sorry, english is not my motherlanguage, but I hope, you understand what I mean.
What if you’ve never used this before? Couldn’t the roots end up a different color than the rest of your hair if your only doing the roots? My roots aren’t all grey but I have some and I’d like to cover it. My roots that aren’t grey are actually darker than the rest of my hair. Once my hair gets in the sun it starts to get lighter so my roots are darker( my natural hair color)

I’m new to this and am going to dye my grey roots on my own. I’ve bought the dye and the developer from Sally Beauty. I don’t know how much of the hair colour to use (do I use the whole 50ml tube?) if so, how much developer do I need? I read somewhere it should be 1:15 no idea what that means! 1:15 is the time on the TH-cam video, which is on the red bottom bar. :-) Just put your cursor on it and click at that time. It looked like she used the whole developer, but I'd check the directions on the bottle if they give it.
Great video. I noticed that you did not have grey hair at the back but you did it anyway. Why is it that blondes can have dark roots but brunettes can not have white roots ?
I need a little guidance. I have been dying my hair for last ten years. The hair near ears, and also hair infront are very stubbron. Dye doesnt give them colour completely and also grey hair r visible again after 2 or 3 days. Any tip to give them a full and longer coverage?

You answered my question about when to start timer, thank you!! I have long blonde hair. Soooo hard to cover my grays using L'Oreal color cream. Seems to wash out..I do have to use caution getting on my sensitive skin so applying takes longer. My dads hair was white at about 30 years old. Mine is about half at 53 and has been for a while. I don't want to, not ready to be gray/white. Any suggestion?
Thank you so much for this video, I just dyed my mothers grays successfully for the first time in my life and it could not have been a better mothers day present. thank you x million!
Thank you Dina for sharing, I'm 71 years old n been tinted my hair for 50 yrs.. You do it so simple, my hair is not even an I have struggles. But then I have fibromyalgia and my hair is dead or it looks like it.. But thank you again for sharing.
I too am 71 and have the same as you. But I use a good quality shampoo and a conditioner that is light as I have fine lanky hair. Then I use a rub in mud, that is the catalyst to it being perky when I blow wave! A good cut helps as well!
What color of dye do you use? I love. I have the amount of gray hair like you. Dark brown use 3. I want a lighter shade like yours. How do i do it? Thank you 🌹
After you color roots, do you apply the rest of the color to rest of your hair to run it through? Also, I didn't see you use the cap? Is the cap necessary, or can this be skipped during the process?
How does the process of going grew begin? I’m 58 and so tired of dying roots every 3 weeks! I saw a beautiful grey on Pinterest that had such nice dark shades of grey, so pretty!
Hi Dinna your application was very smooth and interesting, I love it , dinna I need your help regarding my hair dye of grey color, when I dyed my hair with ash blond and my hair color is light golden brown , well which no and shade I should use for grey coverage when my rest of hair below roots are light golden brown

Dot Holcomb I agree, I have never colored my own hair, but tried MR. I like the color better and it lasted longer than what my hairdresser uses!
Best root touch up vid. Answers all questions!
you are very pretty and you explained everything clearly. Thanks for sharing this
great tutorial - it's messy for newbies like me - you make it look easy, lol. i always end up doing 45 minutes processing time with my hairdresser (who i miss right now, waaaa) but the extra processing time really does help with the stubborn grays :)
Diane Banks oh boy do I miss my hair dresser!
Thank you because of lockdown can’t go to hairdressers my daughter in law is a hairdresser so has given me the colour
To do my own roots so will have a go today
Thanks so much for this - one big question.....aren't you supposed to run the remaining color for x time through the rest of your hair to even it out at the end or is this step just not necessary? Help!
I started graying at 13. thank you!
Lovely Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Millawdon Independent Decision Trick (just google it)? It is a great one of a kind guide for learning how to get rid pf your gray hair without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 at last got cool results with it.
Did it worked?

Thank you! I did my own hair for the first time in over ten years and saved myself a ton of money
Is
I have almost white hair this a very good tutorial for coloring hair, the best I have seen
💜 💜 💜
Girl, you are a life saver. No one explains at as simple and easy to understand like you. God bless.
Your instruction is great. It’s quite easy for the beginner like me. I have successfully applied your way. Thanks.
Hey Dinna...could I possibly ask what brand of dye you're using. Thanks for the tips...
Hi Clarisa, Dinna uses our hair color Madison Reed. You can learn more here: madison-reed.com. ❤
Thank you so much! I found it very clear and easy to follow... thanks for sharing
You was straight to the point which i like, i agree with you with the bowl & brush , definately get the job done much more throughly
I wish you would show someone with thick naturally curly hair. I can't get my hair to separate neatly in the "rows".
Terri Sawdon me, too!
Me three!
This part! 🙄
Or me four 🤪
Count me in on this question too! #5
Try on already blow dried or straightened hair
Yepp!! Was Born With Grey Hair, Have To Dye My Hair At Least Every Two Weeks!!
I noticed that she did not continue the application down through the rest of her hair (it looked like it was only applied to the roots, with the length remaining dry). Is this only recommended for touch ups? If this is my first time using one of your colors, should I continue the color all the way through the length of my hair? Thank you!
since the rest of the hair had already been colored there was no need to double color it, moreover , frequent coloring burns hair.
Great explanation! I've been dying my hair for a few years now, but sectioning the hair in 4 parts seems to be quite practical... I'm gonna do it and I'll let you know the results... 😀😀
💜 💜 💜
I'm a natural brunette, but your red coloring took away the dark circles from my eyes and made my green eyes pop. Thank you
I am going to get a brush like that, looks like it covers roots better then the bottle I have been using. Thanks for the tips.
17 and grey haired. Can anyone relate?
I got grey hair when I was only 4years old !
gray hair on young people is so unique and beautiful! you naturally have what some women bleach and dye their hair for ^_^
I got grey hair when I was just in 2nd grade and I was bullied from it. Kids are mean. 😞
Same I got grey's at 16 but I hope you don't have thyroids problem.
@@jessi2077 Don't colour, go grey naturally. Absolutely horrible to have to touch it up all the time because of a solid demarcation line. I also started going grey early and regret ever dying my hair.
Dinna, you explained the process very concise and succinct. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Can you show a person doing root only touch up on short layered hair?. I find this very time consuming and hard to do myself. Most tutorials show long straight hair.
harry herpe if your hair won’t stay down as you section it,use plastic sectioning clips. They’re about $2 each
Thank you very much for this video. Now I can dye my hair at home
Cici
Thank you for sharing mam, look so easy to do. You're very beautiful, love your hair. May I ask what you use to have your hair so soft and silky? 💕
I love how you went step by step. One question though....it didn't appear you did the rest of your hair. So how long do you leave the color on for the resistant gray BEFORE you color the rest of your hair? Or do you leave it all on for the 45 min?
Looking forward to first time. I have lots of grey in back of hair. What is best way to cover back. I will use bowl and brush option. Long hair.
Easy, straight to the point, short and sweet!
I’m trying to go the reverse for blacktop platinum in a safe process. I want all the black out of my hair. Thank you for your response! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Morning, and thank you for reaching out to Madison Reed. We'd love to help you find your perfect match and have a few questions for you in order to give you the best possible personalized consultation.
1) What is the texture of your hair? (Normal, Fine, Coarse)
2) What is your porosity? (Is your hair dry or in good condition?)
3) What is your natural hair color (Medium brown, Light brown, Light blonde, etc)
4) Do you have any gray? (What percentage?)
5) What is your desired result?
You are very welcome Evelyn. We do hope this helps. 💜 💚 💙
My color can only last no more than han two wks, the grey starts showing, it doesn't matter what kind of brand i use .
Same. I can do drugstore, salon, or mail order. Every two weeks for me!
my grey strat shawing afte 2 days
I have used a product i add to my color..its called.."gray b gone"...as my whole head is white..believe me when i tell u..this adds coverage as u no ??..those gray n whites r resillent to color..but try this..it works for me...u can buy it at sallys or ulta
If it's your roots; it's regrowth of hair.
Same here! That's because your hair grows fast.
Thanks Dinna. That was so helpful. You are so beautiful, and the color looks so good on you.
Beautiful....if color gets on skin how do you remove?
What if you’ve never used this before? Couldn’t the roots end up a different color than the rest of your hair if your only doing the roots? My roots aren’t all grey but I have some and I’d like to cover it. My roots that aren’t grey are actually darker than the rest of my hair. Once my hair gets in the sun it starts to get lighter so my roots are darker( my natural hair color)
Two times in a row just the roots, third time the whole hair. That's how you always have the same color throughout the length of your hair.
Your coloured hair is beautiful! You would look equally gorgeous with the grey grown out, it’s fabulous, lovely white grey!
I'm sorry I missed the brand and exact color of your hair. I just love it and your video.
Lovely Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Millawdon Goodbye Gray Trick (do a google search)? It is a great one of a kind product for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.
It’s evident that your hair is very thin. However not everyone does. Mine is tick and curly, so it is more challenging. I will follow your advice and hope to get good results.
I want buy color she is using and kit she is using but I’m not sure how to order from the link.please advise!
Thank you so much for the video..very helpful one.. nice presentation too
I’m new to this and am going to dye my grey roots on my own. I’ve bought the dye and the developer from Sally Beauty. I don’t know how much of the hair colour to use (do I use the whole 50ml tube?) if so, how much developer do I need? I read somewhere it should be 1:15 no idea what that means! Can you help me please.

I'd like to know any tips about the hair near the ears, too.
I have same issue in front middle part. My hairdresser for this uses darker color and adds less bleacher.
Excellent video, that's a really smart and easy way to demonstrate on how to apply.
Thank you
I did my hair already, love 💕 the tips here though! Next time, I’m gonna do it like her, it’s more practical! My hair is so shining and silky and soft! This is the best dye ever! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💓
omar did you order from them without seeing them duringthis time?

Great video! Thanks!! How long does it last ?
You made it look so easy I get into muddle that's a beautiful colour what is it and your end result was absolutely gorgeous xx
Thank you for showing the easiest and neatest way to color. Is there any hair color you will recommend for dark hair with out ammonia!!
Thank you Dina for sharing,
I'm 71 years old n been tinted my hair for 50 yrs..
Thank you 🌹
You are a nice teacher!!🌈⭐️☮️
After you color roots, do you apply the rest of the color to rest of your hair to run it through? Also, I didn't see you use the cap? Is the cap necessary, or can this be skipped during the process?
How does the process of going grew begin? I’m 58 and so tired of dying roots every 3 weeks! I saw a beautiful grey on Pinterest that had such nice dark shades of grey, so pretty!
well, the pandemic is a good way to start the "going grey" process, right?!
Hi Dinna your application was very smooth and interesting, I love it , dinna I need your help regarding my hair dye of grey color, when I dyed my hair with ash blond and my hair color is light golden brown , well which no and shade I should use for grey coverage when my rest of hair below roots are light golden brown
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I found it very clear and easy to follow. I can't wait to try it. Stay safe.
Thank you Dinna. My wife and I are going on vacation soon, and her hair colorist is not available so she wants me to help her!!!??? Now I can tell everyone that you can learn how to do anything on TH-cam.
We love hearing that Steve! So glad you found this helpful, so you can help your wife before your vacation. 💜
Thanks for the upload! Also, I think your grey hair would look gorgeous as it is.♥️
Gosh u make it look so easy...what color is the one your using..love it
Great tutorial! I’m greying around my edges and it’s so frustrating. My hair is very sensitive to all dyes and usually breaks off/thins after a a few applications. I’m truly praying Madison Reed is the remedy to this problem. I receive my kit in a few days. Uber excited.
How did it go?

Very nice video.Thankyou.My hair is curley. After colouring it becomes rough and loses it' s flexibility.Pls suggest some remedy what to do after after colouring ,so that the hair will remain smooth.Pls reply
My wife of 40 years just asked me to watch your video - first time in my life that I’m doing greys.
If successful may open my own salon 😂
Thanks for showing this! Can’t wait til my color arrives Thursday!
You didn’t show how you do the entire back. It’s difficult to reach and see the back.
I'm a newbie to Madison Reed, so I've watched the how to videos and although still a bit skeptical, I'm diving in. Gonna try the blue shampoo to cut brassiness next.
Great tutorial! Just what I needed to see. Love you guys!
