  • A war of words has broken out between one of India's greatest playwrights, Girish Karnad, and vocal supporters of the man who is often described as a lion of English writing, VS Naipaul. This after Girish Karnad spoke at the Mumbai literature festival and lambasted Mr Naipaul who received a lifetime achievement for his antipathy towards the Indian Muslim - a verbal critique which has touched on many raw nerves.

The common proverb - "a rotten apple never falls far from its roots" - is very true in your case - you racist bigot.
Naipul defended Hinduism and verbally attacked Muslims for harming that religion.
I then take it that you defend the "caste" system - considered by most of humanity (I do not include you in that group as you are outside it) as being worse than slavery - even the great Mahatma defended the Harijans against the beastly behaviour of the upper class Hindus aimed at them.
I take it you defend the practice of "sutee" where a woman whilst still alive is thrown upon her husbands funeral pyre. This practice was banned by the Muslims - something that the British later claimed by themselves.
I ask you to look up the barbaric practices of the "aghori" caste in Hinduism - just google it - if your bigotry will allow you to.
I can go on - but I will stop here to see if you have a reasoned intelligent response in your bigoted twisted brain - just like your colonial bootlicker of a relative.

@@baldwin9180 I am glad you have disclosed more about yourself so I can answer you properly - as no English person would post something so stupid - so bereft of historical knowledge - You must be the only person in your family born without a tail.
Being Dutch does not mean that you show a grasp of history akin to the "Gold Member" character from the Mike Meyers film - Austin Powers in Goldmember!!
Before I reply to you - I will add that I am an atheist - I have no time for any religion.
You have raised two broad areas in your post(s) - I will answer them in the order raised: -
      1. Your first post about grandiose claims about Western Civilisation, the Renaissance, and colonialism.
      2. The effect of the Mughals on India and whether they were worse than the British.
On the first point - the renaissance in Europe started with the Moors in Spain(I am sure an enlightened person like you can research the veracity of what I have said here) whilst the Europeans were by and large in the grip of the Catholic religion that was busy carrying out pogroms against the Jews culminating in the Holocaust on Christian Europe just over 70 years ago and burning the ancient texts written by previous civilisations - the holocaust occurred in an enlightened Christian Europe in my fathers lifetime - perhaps yours too!! This is something that your humanitarian, freedom loving, Christian world likes to forget - most of the ceremonies of the Hitler Youth took place in the churches - You suffer from selective amnesia - I have more examples below!!
The period that we call the "European Enlightenment" was when Your forefathers (assuming that you are Dutch) bathed the world in blood and genocide - immigration has always been a problem - ask the Aborigines in Australia (90% of whom have been exterminated - ask the Native Americans (close to 50 Million were exterminated) - ask the natives of South America (close to 30 Million were exterminated) - the disgusting and apalling behaviour of Your Dutch blood brethren (Boers and Afrikaners in case you have forgotten) in South Africa in the lead up to independence - lest I forget the First and Second World Wars that an enlightened Christian Europe gifted the world with its 40 Million dead - the 25 Million Africans that Leopold's enlightened Christian armies gifted to the Belgian Congo - the part that a Christian France played in the Rwandan Genocide that Macron recently apologised for - or the 250 unmarked graves of the Native American children discovered in Canada this month which Justin Trudeau apologised for - these children were in the care of your enlightened Christian Church - one can only wonder how much abuse these children suffered at the hands of Your Christian brethren before they reached their premature deaths. I can go on but I will stop here - you can stick your selective view of the European Enlightenment in a part of your bodily orifice where the sun does not shine.
As Gandhi once said when asked what he thought of European Civilisation- "European Civilisation would be a nice thing!!"
On your second point about the harm (as claimed by Naipul) that the Mughals caused to Hinduism - it was Hinduism that gave us the Caste system that still persists in India to this day in some shape and form - lasting thousands of years - in my mind it is worse that the practice of slavery conducted by enlightened Christian Europeans - I include all Christian sects here - I am sure you will be able to find one Dutch village that was innocent of this practice.
I am sure you are aware of the practice of Sutee - where the widow was burnt alive on the funeral pyre of her dead husband - a practice favoured by the upper Hindu Castes.
The Moguls outlawed both the above practices including a number of other odious Hindu practices - deeds that the enlightened British claimed for themselves later.
When you talk of European conservation and restoration - it is a debt that the civilised enlightened Europeans owe to the people of the world for centuries of thieving - given the scale of the theft of antiquity from the rest of the world - the pretext now provided by Your European brethren is that this material needed to be repatriated to the museums of Europe to save it from destruction. The fact that all the material in the European museums survived for thousands of years in its natural environment was irrelevant to the thieves - this material just happened to fall into danger while Your thieving enlightened Europeans were present - so they could steal it and bring it to Europe - this is a novel excuse for theft - some people (mostly in Europe) are stupid and gullible enough to pretend to believe it - the rest of the world that can exercise logical judgement do not believe the enlightened Europeans.
The person speaking with a strong Pakistani about freedoms is more correct in my mind than one speaking with a strong "freaky" Dutch accent with a closed mind.
Please give some consideration to historical facts about what a so called Enlightened Christian Europe has done to the rest of the world and also to itself - before you open your stupid Dutch mouth!!
I await your response - let's hope it is more sensible than your previous postings!!

Bin Laden is like a selective bogeyman that people like you throw at others when You have run out of things to say in defence of your "Geert Wilders" school of bigotry.
There is an English phrase (I am sure it exists elsewhere) that says - "Actions Speak Louder than Words" - I will give you a couple of other examples of enlightened Christian European blood-letting - as you have demonstrated how selective and short your memory is: -
      1. The last Gulf War was conducted by ".....people born, raised and educated in Europe, the continent of Renaissance, Enlightment and modern science....." - under a false pretext (read the Hutton Report commissioned in the UK) - a pack of lies that resulted in half a million needless deaths - the perpetrators of this project are still at liberty.

      3. I am as far from Bin Laden as one can get - your level of bigotry and intolerance puts you much closer to him - if one disagrees with you then they must be akin to the most extreme person you can conjure out of your imagination - that is warped thinking - you are clearly unable to challenge the facts put in front of you. Naipul's defence of Hinduism cannot escape what the Hindus did to their own - he is also full of praise for the British - who reduced India to a state of penury - who also created artificial famines that resulted in millions of Indians dying of starvation.

@@MoMo-vi3go No. Don't conflate Sati with caste system
First of all Sati was a minor practice within Hinduism and was exacerbated by Iskamic invasions and subsequent brutality.
Next let's talk about caste system
Caste system was exclusionary but not inhumane. You picture an ancient social arrangement through modern Lens, which is a unified, single society.
In ancient times it wasn't so. And it need not be so. I am absolutely against caste system but point to note in pre Islamic Indiax there was no genocide. There wasn't even any institutional slavery which happened in all large, sophisticated ancient and medieval cultures. Caste system was benign compared to skave system
Furthermore caste system essentially kept out many untouchables from dominant cultural system but didn't britalize them. They were free to pursue a society of their own making. Also all castes or jatis gad their own narrative about who is superior and who is inferior. In other words caste hierarchy wasn't a neat top to down linear ladder. That is a particular viewpoint solidified in the dominant narrative by the British. In other words every caste put itself on top of the hierarchy. Read one of indias best sociologists word Dipankar Gupta, Interrogating Caste on this.
In a libertarian sense caste system can even be seen on positive light as individuals communities exercising their liberty. I don't support it but in any case it was benign compared to forced slavery and mass likings
Islamic invasion was a completely different matter. It was sheer brutality, barbarity and an alien dominant imposition over Hindustan.
