Girish Karnad was a versatile actor, playwrite, a renowned communicator and a person of wide accomplishments and interests.
Karnad made his acting and screenwriting debut with a Kannada film named 'Samskara' in 1970.
He was awarded with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan & Jnanpith Award.

Karnad writing play in Kannada may be a surprising thing.But there is more surprising thing:He wrote his Kannada plays in north K'taka dialect which is considered coarser,non urban version of Kannada(more like Hyderabadi Urdu)

A pity that Karnad ended up being just a petty critic of Hindu traditions and rituals without understanding their true purpose or meaning. And pettiness was given birth through loyalty to some unscrupulous political masters and anti- Hindu establishment that showered him with false praise and felicitations like asking him to inaugurate Mysore Dasara, imagine an anti- Hindu inaugarating a traditional ritual against which he prides writing ! He will be remembered by a big populace as anti- Hindu, who supported beef eating which is supporting cow killing! Shame on him !

He was never an anti hindu, rather was more of an anti hindu extremists critic. His roots were in Mahabharata and yakshagana (most of em). So,never an anti hindu. He spoke well against and for some good reasons supporting certain individuals. It's just that his writings were so creative that he hid the contemporary issues in his writings. Reading his writings would give you the real idea.
