What op was saying I think is Naipaul was far greater than an ordinary Nobel winner and that is just for his fiction work. He us best fiction writer of last quarter on 20th century in any language. And easily among too 5 fiction writers of last century. And this is not including his non fiction works

The questions seem contrived. Naipaul is struggling to keep the conversation going! It is hard to think of how to run a discussion. The theme is familiar. An attempt on Naipaul's part to uncover layers of cultural identities formed through colonization, and religious conversion, to get an essential understanding of how people in a culture understand their world. The method is also familiar. Careful interviews in which the protagonists are gently prodded into revealing themselves.

@@neilb3332 still struggling with it. Reading these people psychology is so difficult. The contradictions in personality and works make it confusing to grasp ideas. The previous works of criticism on his novels are shattering my thoughts. But almost going to finish it soon

The descriptions in Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire were mostly just prejudice, even racism - by a man more concerned with whether he would be expected to pay a big fee, or more concerned that cats are treated with cruelty, rather than delving into African religions with anything other than insults. Contemptuous of Ghana, one of Africa's success stories. Surprising that he didn't include vodoo in Benin. Very contemptuous of many of the Africans. He should perhaps visit large parts of the UK which are just dump cities or anywhere in India.

@neilb3332 Naipaul had contempt for black people, loved whites and pushed their agenda. He was an Uncle Tom who won a Nobel for being just that. Imagine a Caribbean person who nobody cares to boast about because he hated his own. Long live Derek Walcott and Sir Arthur Lewis, true Caribbean heros and worthy Nobel Laureats.
