I always wanted this to happen. As a i kid i always had my own head canon for the cards and imagined how a yugioh world only with the monsters would be like.
There is actually a continuation to this story, a new link monster came out called Companion Whelp of Destruction Swordsman and it shows the welp glowing on Buster Blader's shoulder. The japanese name is Guardian Bonded Dragon of the Destruction Swordsman, meaning it could be the spirit of the Whelp after Buster Blader fused with it. Its back to being a light type and the Buster Blader in the picture with it looks distinctly like the Fusion Dragon Destroyer Swordsman

Yes the dragons soul lived on within him. You can also tell it's fused buster blader because the red gems on his sword when his regular form they are green blue. It's actually kinda crazy how much lore they add into these card arts and the put so many hidden details as he looks normal from that obscure angle but the red gem stones give it away which is something they put there on purpose for people to notice.
That’s very sad, he only realised his mistake when it was too late, after this, I doubt he’d recover instantly, he’ll see dragons not as pests but as creatures that can still be saved if nurtured properly & it would be better to have a dragon as a friend then as an enemy. Dragons in the west are believed to be evil & must be slain but in the east, they are beloved, friends & teachers, it all depends on how you approach them 🐉
Gaia The Fierce Knight is most likely Atem's own Ka from his own Ba. BLS is the fusion of Ka with Atem, as how Dark Magician is when Maahad fuse completely with his Ka, the Illusion Magician. This is hinted at throughout the anime and recent archetypes support released for the 20th franchise campaign
I imagine his merger with Dark Magician was a temporary one, probably all taking place before this. They merged to take on a powerful dragon then separated once the task was complete with Dark Magician training his students and protecting his master while Buster Blader went on to kill his creation.
7:41 he did mention that BB crafted 3 swords, one that stood out is the sword to slay wizards, could it be there was a point where BB ended up battling DM??
His story parallels how I felt about monster Hunter when I first got into the series. Day one: boy I love killing monsters Day 10: I'm starting to feel bad about killing... Day 30: dude have you seen this armor tho? I got it from wiping out entire species!! Look at these stats! I am totally one-hundred-percent chamelos!
Yes I’m that guy that reply’s to old comments but in MH there used to be a monster known as Monoblos that was hunted for the glory of slaying it. Seeing as it no longer shows up in games as the other older monsters the theory is that it was hunted to extinction by those who wanted glory over balance of nature.

I've actually been looking for a video like this for months, someone who tries to make sense of the story that is being told in the buster blader cards. Thank you alot, I really love the way you interpreted this story. It makes sense and you picked up on some things that I completly missed when I tried to make sense out of it on my own.
#001 My guess based on certain cards that B. Blader and Dark Magician became friends or acquaintances somewhere and Dark Magician introduced B. Blader to Eyndimion (It could also indicate that B. Blader influenced Dark Magician to want to learn how to fight with a sword. Hence the card "Knight's Title")

Dark Magician, Dark Paladin, and Buster Blader were the cards that got me into Yu-Gi-Oh. I'm surprised that their relationship wasn't touched on. I know a lot of cards have multiple paths or alternate storylines. But I always felt that the dark Paladin route was special.
Wowww. Okay, this was a good story. Buster Blader's intentions were good, but in pursuit of finding his own fighting companion in the dragon, he failed to see how the process would affect the dragon itself. He eventually had to fight it to quell its destructive spirit. As a remorseful sign of mercy, he obtained the essence of his friend to stay with him forever. What a noble story, I like the buster blader.
To be honest Whelp is probably corrupted by a sad mix of wanting more power to make Buster blader proud. Whelp probably had a destructive nature by default but with Buster Blader killing their mom he became their friend/mentor and maybe even a father figure. Whelp wanted to gain power to help Buster Blader, more power made better able to protect Buster Blader. The problem was all Whelp knew was slaying monsters, a desire for gaining power, a undiluted destructive nature, possibly thinking Whelp was next on the chopping block with all the other dragons they destroyed and nativity sowed the seeds of Whelp's tragic downfall. Whelp gave up too much and was overwhelmed by the darkness being used more like a weapon, they had taken their lessons to their natural conclusion. They had become strong but lost their way. During the fight I think thanks to Buster Blader trying to save them they finally able to get through to Whelp probably had a moment of clarity from the corruption during the fight and had to save their friend Buster Blader. Even from themselves so probably threw the fight at the end by not dodging the last blow. They slay monsters and Whelp had become one not wanting destroy the closest thing Whelp had to family they broke free of the corruption it was too late. Whelp just wanted to make Buster Blader proud and messed everything up instead. Despite all that Whelp did love Buster Blader forgiving him and binding themselves to their new weapon so Whelp can help protect Buster Blader. One last time. Whelp was pretty much had no chance because of a lack of guidance to become something other than a weapon and a instinct they didn't have another way to channel other than fighting. A dark mirror of how Buster Blader's path could have ended. One part atonement, guilt and forgiveness and love. Probably Whelp's sacrifice or tragedy probably saved Buster Blader from such a path.
I've always liked to imagine that Buster Blader and Dark Magician are close friends even though I don't think there's any card art that supports this. But that would explain Dark Paladin cuz I guess you could say that's DM after Buster taught him how to make armor to fight dragons so that he could beat Blue-Eyes. The Skilled Magicians also might be relevant, but I don't really know why.

I know this card didn't exist when the video was uploaded, so I just wanted to talk about Protector Whelp of the Destruction Sword, (The Buster Blader/Destruction Sword link monster.) This just shows that Buster Whelp's spirit does live on with Buster Blader not as a memory or a feeling but as a being that helps and still keeps Buster Blader compony. This is just my interpretation of the card art and card effect and while it's still a sad story this addition makes the bitter sweet ending of the story just a little sweeter.
Buster Blader was always my favorite card growing up, when I was little it was my signature card in all the decks I had (my Dark Magician if you will) and it was just SUPER RAD learning all this new stuff about him. I'd love to see one on the lore of Summoned Skull. Keep up the awesome work!
For some marvelous reason I just had this very brilliant realization that blue eyes white dragon perhaps was a thicc badly closed woman with white hair and blue eyes
Before this happened, Buster Blader want to kill Blue Eyes White Dragon, bit Dark Magician intervene, and they fight. Dark Magician lose, and Buster says that Magician should be a knight as well, so Knight's Title exist and He become a knight, then when they fight again, it's a tie until Legendary Dragon Timaeus appears, and Buster and Magician fuse together. They become Dark Paladin. After Timaeus is defeated, he's sealed. They separated again. Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl can ride Timaeus and become Amulet Dragon and Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight. Years passed, this happened.
Also please do Gaia the Fierce Knight and Chaos/Black Luster Soldier. Atem himself clearly has something important to do with him, (maybe Atem is the Chaos Soldier?), and those two cards are clearly connected (shown in the first season when Atem duels Mai). Thanks a lot for this video, it shows what cards I need to make a Buster Deck. Also the Buster Blader is my favorite arch type.
Buster Blader and Dark Magician were "skilled" wizards who, along Gaia and some guy in red, learned how to Dragon Ball fusion, but the guy in red didn't like to "blend" with them (too much), he was a hell of a guy.
I have a headcanon that after he regret killing his whelp, he retired from killing dragons and instead decide to nurture dragons instead, so he adopted 6 additional dragons and stay in mansion to become owner of the inn, and the 6 adopted dragons become caretaker for said mansion now turned inn and now they are called dragon maid.

You told the story so well, i even had to cry, that poor whelp :'( Just as you mentioned, i think the whelp should not fight. It got consumed by darkness fighting alongside of Buster Blader and carrying those weapons. Since even the Lvl 1 whelp become dark attribute by carrying the weapon.

Buster Blader and Dark Magician were "skilled" wizards who, along Gaia and some guy in red, learned how to Dragon Ball fusion, but the guy in red didn't like to "blend" with them (too much), he was a hell of a guy.
I have a headcanon that after he regret killing his whelp, he retired from killing dragons and instead decide to nurture dragons instead, so he adopted 6 additional dragons and stay in mansion to become owner of the inn, and the 6 adopted dragons become caretaker for said mansion now turned inn and now they are called dragon maid.
*Sheds a manly tear* I’ll still believe that Buster Blader is a hero just a badass one.

dark magician have such a synergy with buster blader, ever since the start of the game they had relations, it would be cool to add some context with dark magician and buster blader

Just as you mentioned, i think the whelp should not fight. It got consumed by darkness fighting alongside of Buster Blader and carrying those weapons. Since even the Lvl 1 whelp become dark attribute by carrying the weapon.
I just made a buster blader deck and i now don't like the fusion Buster it makes me sad.
And then out of nowhere Atem made Buster Blader fuse with Dark Magicians.
This is one of the best stories in Yu-Gi-Oh, ever, even better than the anime stories (which I think are great).
Like think that baby dragon a cat dragon....no one can say it doesn't seam like a car dragon and mean it

I know that these aren't the main focus of your channel but I definitely hope to see more because you are the ONLY PERSON I have seen tackle this with competence, style and consistency. I'm Realy liking your Yu-gi-oh "the Story Behind" series, the story behind ShiEn was very well done and my favourite, just wounting to ask and request one of your Yu-gi-oh the Story Behind Shaddoll EL Constrace(or Shaddoll Family) witch could have a part 2 with the Ritual beast tamer family as thay have some crossover cards.
