People forget they have been building track cars for decades before they made a production car! I've heard people saying that the 720s just because it's fast in a straight line it's hopeless on a track! Circuit racing and everything that goes along with that is where mclaren has all its knowledge! They would never build a car that's only good in a straight line and a disaster in the corners! If that ever happened it would go back to the drawing board when it's being tested! The amazing straight line speed they all have is a added bonus and not what defines a mclaren sports car

Fair point......but let's be real, how can you be hard on your power steering? So hard on it, that it ruins your suspension? Everything with moving parts will eventually fail, so that g37 you have had for 7 years, I bet it will be more reliable than the MP4-12c you recently bought. A suspension being connected to the power steering system, all running on the same fluid, is nuts. That would be the first fluid change I would do then, if I were you.

Let's forget for a second they have been running an F1 team for decades, making road cars is another pair of sleeves, that's a totally brand new industrial business to them and had to build the plant they've never had before. And most of all they never developed their own engines which is a prestige key factor in the sportscar business. They use a half-blooded Nissan derived engine.

it's named after the MP4-12 F1 car from 1997. It's named that was cause it shares the same "brake steer" technology (which only cars like the Porsche 918 and La Ferrari share)

The car uses the brakes to make better turns.

I'm sorry Doug I love your videos man your super entertaining and I'm not questioning your car knowledge but!! to say this car has a dumb name shows the ignorance in that statement. What is McLaren known for? F1!! Who's the driver everyone including Schumacher says was the best? Senna!! And what did he drive when he posted the most insane pole lap in history? An MP4/4... what did he use to win the world championship in 1990? An MP4/5b. So yes the name MP4/whatever sounds weird but my god is it dripping with history, success, and touched by the hands of legends like senna and prost. Again not trying to talk shit just wanting to point out that the name has a hell of a lot more meaning than it sounds.

Thanks for telling me the reason behind the choice of name but you can't deny it's a poor choice in the grand scheme of designating a name to a car that gives it more of a soul a presence something they can remember quickly especially for people who don't even know what F1 is never mind senna and which car he won in! This guy obvious didn't do his homework before this video and knew little to nothing about the McLaren MP4-12C. His awkward entry and exit in the 12C shows he doesn't understand how to properly enter and exit the car. I'm 6' and weigh 250lbs and I glide in and out of it no problem. I own a beautiful 12C and could have bought anything I wanted but I chose the 12C for the following reasons. I chose this car because it is a great daily driver (gets 23 mpg) and is very comfortable to drive with the fully active trick hydraulic suspension in "Normal Mode" (verses Sport or Track Mode). It rides like my Range Rover. McLaren provides awesome customer service and my 12C has been VERY reliable and I am 100% satisfied. I now have over 17,945 miles on her and have yet to have a problem. Sure, a first year production car will have a few 'nits' like the LED's displays going dim on the door panel (an early problem covered for all McLaren owners free of charge). Again, awesome customer service. Not to mention this car is just wickedly fast! The McLaren spec sheet is overly conservative and here are the performance specs my 12C and other divers are getting as measure at Fontana, Seca and Willow Springs. 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds with the OEM Corsa System tires, 10.5 sec quarter miles and top ends ranging from 210 - 217 mph. As I mentioned earlier the 12C has a fully active hydraulic suspension with the dynamic stability control constantly adjusting the dampers and other suspension components many time a second for optimal handling. It also has sound baffled so you can control (via the computer menu) how much engine noise enters the cabin dependent on your liking. The 12C also has an active hydraulic spoiler/air brake which is cool to watch as it moves around to optimize down force and it is also functions as an air brake for hard stops for speeds in excess of 70 mph. Put this car in "Normal Mode" and enjoy and nice smooth, quiet ride or turn the handling to "Sport Mode" which stiffens up the hydraulic suspension and switch the power mode to "Sport" and it becomes more of a growling beast. Turn the handling mode to "Track" and the power mode to "Track" and this car become a flame spitting beast that will carve through time and space like a precision jet fighter on after burners. The acceleration is truly mind blowing! McLaren warranties this car bumper-to-bumper for 12 years so there is no concern for worrying about any expensive repairs. My personal experience with McLaren at their Beverly Hills' location is they will go far above and beyond to ensure your complete satisfaction and that you're happy with your 12C. Travis and Ken are outstanding! McLaren also has a Customer Service Department that is VERY responsive and will return your emails or phone calls with 24 hours should you have any questions or issues. McLaren is really a first rate car company and my next super car will definitely be a McLaren! Go test drive one for yourself and then tell me this amazing super car isn't a steal at $140,000.

Love mama ;] mp4 is my first love, but now I think only about 570s :D Also have a pitbull, white and deaf that sleeps with open eyes :D must upload someday a video of Him. Nice to read something like that about mp4-12c :D I remember times when there was only a one video, jenson button testing it for the press, so long ago but it was very cool, mp4 has totally different exhaust sound, I think even McLaren doesn't know how they got it but it sounds 100 better than 570s 4me, because people mostly prefer to amg style exhaust sounds but mp4 sounds like an ufo, v8 biT ufo ;p cheers!

szablo: Glad to meet another pitbull advocate. Good for you. Maybe your pup sleeps with its eyes open because he/she's just to tired to close them. Lol. I hope you get to enjoy a 570Ss. McLaren's engineering team is first rate and continues pushing the envelope of technology. First time in awhile (maybe since the NSX) that a car maker has sent Ferrari and Lamborghini scrambling back to their drawing boards for design improvements. IMHO you can't go wrong with a McLaren. They are great cars! The sport exhaust for the MP4 is very nicely tuned and puts a big grin on my face every time I push the accelerator. Regards.

She's another Beautiful Britt. My first car Love was an old MGB, sitting behind a Dodge dealer, on my way home walking from work after midnight, dish washer at Shoneys I'd sneak open the door and sit in about an hour, just shifting through the gears and imagining she was mine. One night I was headed to sit in her after work and she was gone never to see her again. Even now 40 years later when I see an MGB go up the road I can't help but watch till she's gone. Still go crazy, Paul Davis was so right!

I fell in love with this car years ago, at the time it was 2014 and I was driving the Jaguar XJL Supercharged...and loaner cars such as the C7, the Panamera, the Challenger, and XFs...
to most Mclaren is a rare car... even for me in Los Angeles/ Pasadena they are hardly seen...
though friends had Mclarens... I never asked how much...but I do like it in midnight blue and white...there is an elegance to its design...
well after seeing this video...it made me think one day a Mclaren can be possible...
In midnight blue..it is a statement piece...as for reliability...well I can say that my one friend has had three mclarens...the latest the p series in the exotic orange and black... so clearly there is much to love...
I dnt think of myself as an exotic enthusiast...but I do like elegant lines and contour such as with Jaguar, Mclaren, and Bentley... and the iconic classic look and feel of Ferraris and Porsches....so though I am new to this channel...it is a welcomed addition to youtube, and considering the context...it is difficult to not be somewhat immature, but the way these videos are done...I do think you have found the perfect balance as for the humour required....because some of these cars...are truly designed for enthusiasts and in other cases collectors....so too often you find videos either being too immature or too serious...whereas with your videos I find them to be useful...
that being said.. I might be bias..since too often I have heard the following... you are driving daddys car (when describing me)...and i think to myself if you knew what he drives you wouldnt say that...as he drives an astro van...not that he couldnt afford more than that...just to him it was the perfect car...so when i watch your videos...you seem to have that practical sense as well...especially when describing your garage..well wish you the best and looking forward to more videos.

why does he keep saying McLaren is a startup?

    • @EbrahimSaadawii
      @EbrahimSaadawii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Because it is a startup in road production vehicles. They had only made one failed attempted to be a streetcar manufacturer TWENTY years prior to that point, and that's their first one after that, so a clear startup by every definition.

Young Wu Chun actually the McLaren automotive and racing teams are separate divisions operating independently of each other. McLaren trademarked McLaren Automotive in 2010, creating the new branch from the ground up. The first project of this branch was the 12c. McLaren Automotive was a start-up division of McLaren. Doug was right.

It was definitely a street car start up. Especially when you compare it to manufacturers it’s competing with that have been around for decades. Porsche, lambo, Ferrari.
