  • How to remove your car stereo. Well it is not that hard if you have right tools. There are many radios which you can remove by just a metal wire, but if you have mine type, you can just use two thin steel knifes, and if with them it is not enough you will have to use pliers as well.
In video you can see Sony Xplod cdx R3350 radio, it is my Honda Accord cc7 1993 V
If you have any questions about wiring or what ever just let me know and I ll try to help u out!

I found a method which is a lot easier. All you do is park your car in a shady, bad neighborhood, leave your windows open and return the next day....radio removed :D

Ehh, it works just fine with knives. There's really no NEED to have special tools.
Any thin, long and firm piece of metal will do. Knives fit the bill, they have a handle for easy use. Why the fuk not :P

Knives are fine with me if they work. Just glad he didn't try to MacGyver it with a gun. Quit hating on this dude. He did good. I just had a radio installed and I don't have sound.. and if I didn't KNOW that my speakers were bad amd beyond blown, I would be Freddie Kruegering my dash to get it out. But I don't have knives. Only guns. :-( .. and the accent is Polish. And I love it.

    I had a special case
My 2011 Chevrolet Aveo was different. It had an aftermarket radio from the previous owner.
I had to remove the plastic U piece at the bottom of the plastic cubby. I then unscrewed 4 screws holding the cubby and radio in. I took out the entire assembly, then unplugged the wires in the back. The radio was held in by 2 screws on the side (should of been 4 in total for me because it was only on the right side.) Unscrewed them and the radio came free.
The screws holding the radio blocked me from sticking a knife into the little pocket. I didn't even have a need to remove the front cover. Please don't just run in and hope it'll come out. Explore the surroundings of the radio and maybe it'll be easier or harder.

  • @Jammoko

This is 2016... you mean to tell me that this abortive kak-handed method is the best the car/radio industry can come up with. A car owner wants to remove his car stereo player and is reduced to using kitchen knives to hack and stab his stereo and dash aperture. I remember when car radios and stereo's had spindle controls... you just pulled the knobs off, removed the two nuts and face plate and then you could remove your player. Why have we lost the plot big time?

Thank you very much, I was able to remove my Jensen radio from inside my RV using 2 butterknives :) .. I didn't want to use my good knives. We bought the RV used and found out the CD player eats CD's and I HAD to have my "Eagles Hotel California" CD and didn't have any way to get to it without literally breaking something which I did not want to do. It was in a Jenson Under Cabinet Stereo Housing piece so even after unscrewing from under the cabinet it was enclosed on 4 sides with no way to open. I had to remove from the sleeve, this saved me having to break something!!

Great video! But, it won't prepare you for what an idiot is capable of doing when installing a car stereo. I just spent an HOUR trying to take an old Alpine stereo out of a car...I even had the right tools for the job. This is the SECOND TH-cam video (out of FOUR videos) I watched to TRY to help me get that stereo out. But, it turned out, some moron decided to SCREW the stereo into the housing. I only found this out by taking the Dashboard apart.
So, once again...I say: Great video! I'm sure it would have worked if the person that installed my stereo did it the right way.

If you need to keep things in a safe to not forget about them or lose them, you probably have responsibility issues. Maybe tape the removal tool in the owners manual. You do manage to keep track of that dont you? Maybe not. As far as insecure, how? I said i felt good he is not going to steal our radios. Pretty secure about that. And about 100% wrong, also how? He obviously has a hard time getting it out, it is NOT installed correctly and when you buy them new they DO come with the tools. So care to explain what i am wrong about??

  • @Gottenhimfella
    @Gottenhimfella 9 ปีที่แล้ว

The second method is different from the first: it pulls out the outer sleeve, and if the person who bent the tabs to make it stay in the car did an enthusiastic job (like my guy) you will have exactly two chances of success with the second method: no chance whatsoever and the same chance as a snowball in hell. There's really no way of telling for sure until the radio is out, which makes the second method not very useful unless you happen to get lucky.
One way which has even less chance is to try both methods in combination, which I did in desperation, because this guy did such a poor job of explaining what I said in my first sentence. All you achieve is to jam the radio and defeat the purpose of the first method.
    ........
Luckily I found a great video by Chris Berry showing the inner and outer sleeves at the start of the clip, so the rest of it makes perfect sense.
As Jurtans demonstrates, you don't actually need the proper keys, knives do OK once you see just what you're trying to do, but if you want to do it in style there's a good diagram on the www from Maximpulse showing how to make a simple pair of keys (which incidentally come with every new stereo, but of course the installers do not generally pass them on to the owners)
The hard part of the first method is to slide the radio out if you can't get anything onto the back of it to push with: I managed by carefully levering first one side and then the other of the heaviest plastic flange surround with the tip of a blunt knife, with the flat of the knife against the face of the console on either side of the aperture for the radio. This works fine, if you don't have suitable pliers handy, and is possibly less likely to do damage.

Well done. I have been trying to find a way to remove a Sony Selectable Drive S Sub-out for two years. To replace the Temperature control unit. Hope your instructions will work. I truly think they will since I don't see any screws securing the radio.

Ha. This worked. Got the broken Kenwood out of my old Jeep and put a new one in, in about 10 mins, using two kitchen knives. Thanks!

I was able to replace my old Sentra stereo with a microwave oven without using any special tools just by watching this video. I used a crowbar and a spoon.
