I absolutely prefer the action button. I use it for a number of useful shortcuts.
    1) Sound on/off
    2) Garage port open/close
    3) Drivers license QR image
    4) Shazam
But I also have some other shortcuts, which seems natural to use....
Trippe click on power => Zoom (kamera)
Double tap on back => App switcher
Tripple tap on back => Control center
To enable the light, I use siri ("Lumos!") or pick it up frrom home screen or control center...

I know you mentioned the thinner bezel not being a big visual improvement, I agree, but the real benefit is it allowed the phone to be slightly smaller with the same screen size. This combined with the weight reduction has made it easier to one hand operate the Pro Max. As a bike/action creator, I have the action button set to the camera and use it all the time, great since I often have gloves on while riding.

FINALLY someone talks about the HORRIBLE focusing issues!! And it’s not just with the main lens, the 5x telephoto is doing the same and even worse sometimes switches to the main lens to take the shot and there’s NO INDICATION of that happening until you swipe up in the photo gallery and see that it used the Main camera and so it’s a 5x crop from the main camera sensor and the image looks terrible. You can replicate this too. Just have an object that will be your main subject a few feet away, use the 5x camera and arrange the composition so there is something easily identifiable in the background like a person or the outline of a building. The phone will not focus on the main subject at all! And if it does the photo isn’t from the 5x camera but the main camera even though the camera app has the 5x mode HIGHLIGHTED when you press the shutter

I still have the 14 Pro which I upgraded to from my 12 Mini last December, at first I didn’t like the larger size and weight but living in the north east I find the weight of a stainless steel phone in my pocket comes in handy. I can remember numerous times when I had trouble finding my 12 Mini in the pocket of a heavy winter jacket or even a lighter jacket. From what I’ve read and seen on various videos the 15 Pro is a marginal improvement over the 14 Pro but the 16 Pro is going to add the 5X camera which is going to make it a good upgrade option for me

Solution to the focal distance issue on main camera: Zoom in with the main camera to 28mm or 35mm. You lose a little bit of resolution, but no big deal and it gets you in closer. Or just crop the 24mm image in post to what you want. Easy.

Great breakdown! I think the most significant iPhone is the 13 Pro Series. First 120hz display on an iPhone, great camera and the monster battery life (9 to 11 hours SOT, iOS 15.6). Heck I was able to go for the whole day with 60-70%. However battery endurance declined drastically after iOS 16. This shows how an iPhone can win so many hearts of users by just improving the battery life.

The ugly in focus distance is not that much when you use the camera for photos, but when you use it as a tool. None of the "tools" (camera apps) switch to macro lens, you are stuck with main camera and you can't simply work in close distances. These are document scanners, KYC, measuring tools, barcode scanners and similar. Even the built-in QR scanner (from the system dropdown) is not capable to focus, especially if your QR is really small. It can handle very small QR's, but you have to move away, and holding a pack or something in your hand while holding the phone in your other hand would be quite uncomfortable (or awkward). However that issue is not iPhone only, most of the multi-lens phones have it. We didn't notice when there were 2 lens on the phones (3-rd lens were popuplar but not used directly for photography, more wer just depth-sensor). But since they start to add macro, this become a visible problem. I had a lot of struggle with 15pro with 3rd party apps.

I’m actually facing a huge problem with my iPhone 15 pro max pictures. When I take a picture, it looks so crispy and amazing while still in the camera app, but when I view the pictures in gallery, they are just so processed and don’t look at all at what I captured at the first place! ANY WAY TO GET RID OF THAT PLEASE? thank you ☺️

Yeah you’re right on the SE they should focus on longevity, not performance, but when I’m paying +$999.99 I expect performance raw performance which, by the way, I am a huge iPhone game player so yes, please more performance

Honestly for once I agree with most of what you said. the iPhone 15 pro is great, and it is definitely my favorite upgrade in a few years (since the iPhone 11 Pro?), but the battery needs to be upped for sure.

I have had my iPhone 15 pro max for 31-32 days. I like most things about it except my apple car play no longer works (wired) and I don't have the option of wireless CarPlay. Other than that the phone has been super good. Battery life could be better but I put it on low power mode during navigation even if I have 70% battery left because I don't like the phone being anywhere close to 30% or less ever.

5:46 Is the new battery setting on a beta software release only? Because it’s not on my iPhone 15 Pro with the latest iOS 17.1.1 and I hate it when you talk as if some feature is “out” but you mean “it’s out on the beta release”, and ppl like me go and frantically check and don’t see it and check software updates and it’s up to date and I face palm thinking “🤦‍♂️thanks again Sam”

I went from an Iphone 11 (non pro) to the 15 pro max. I usually take pictures to instruments screens at work. With the 11 I had pretty decent screens, not perfect, but OK, I was hoping the 15 pro will be even better. Wrong, my screen pictures are blurrier now. Instead of a step fwd, a step back. SMH.

I traded up from the 14PM to the 15PM and agree with most of your points, good & bad.
Re: photos - the 14PM pictures weren't much better than previous iPhones at first. But by 16.3 or thereabouts, I was pretty happy with the photo quality of 14PM compared to 13PM and 12PM. Out of the box, the 15PM was better, even though the wide and super wide lenses have the exact same hardware (physical sensor) as last year.
Re: battery life - my 14PM consistently had outstanding battery life throughout the entire year I owned it. And battery health hardly dropped, I think it was at 97% when I traded it in for the 15PM. No complaints there.
In fact, I'm getting slightly worse battery life on the 15PM.
One disappointment with the 15P and PM is that the 3nm chip was tauted as being not just more powerful but more efficient. Battery life was predicted to be noticeably better. But that prediction didn't come true. The 15P and PM do not have significantly longer battery life for most people, and for some battery life is a bit worse.
Totally agree about Apple's focus on performance when performance has been more than sufficient for at least 3 years. It's misguided.
The distortion from the ultra wide lens is not improved from last year. Same ultra wide sensor from last year, and Apple's efforts to improve photo processing did not apparently spill over to pictures shot with the ultra wide. Bummer.

You sort of answered your dilemma when you mentioned third party camera apps that allow you to lock in a lens so it doesn’t switch automatically. The main camera sensor is pretty amazing, especially when shooting 48 mp RAW. It is why add on lenses have a use and can up your game. An add on telephoto on the main sensor can produce some awesome portraits for example. Likewise with an add on wide. You get a wide shot with the low light capabilities of the main sensor.
