Derek Trucks on slide guitar and his wife Susan Tedeschi on vocals. He’s the nephew of Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks ( r I p ) and is the premier slide guitarist today. Their band is multi talented too 🔥
This band is worth seeing live (more than once if possible), you will not regret it, I promise! I live in Florida and have seen them at least six times over the years. When they come to town, I'm there....
Another Allman Brothers related offshoot band to check out is “Government Mule.” No doubt that you will love them just as much. …and yes, it takes an unbelievable amount of effort to be this effortless.
eTown is based in Boulder, Colorado and has live music also on NPR radio - my local station on Sunday afternoon after Mountain Stage from West Virginia. Bonnie Raitt is another slide guitarist which leads us to Jackson Brown & his song Take It Easy which was a hit for the Eagles. Now you have to find Allman Brothers Band to hear Butch Trucks drumming & incredible guitarists, bassists & organist
Tedeschi Trucks Band is legendary. Derek Trucks is one of the best guitar players of all time. Period. Susan, his wife, is also a great player, but has one of the most amazing voices of this century. And this is one of the most incredible songs ever written. Dig in Flowers!
Thank you for your reaction. I saw them a couple years ago in concert. Didn't know any of their music, but thought it might be a good band to listen to. It turned out to be an awesome concert! I remember this song and just how smooth it was. I would love to see them again. Thank you again for your comments.
The band size you see is the usual for them with different players plugging in as the schedule requires. Note the two drummers. When she and he formed the single group they could not choose one drummer over the other so both were included. Might be the best live band you can see these days overall.
Hi Jessie, yes that was a slide, nowadays it is usually glass, plastic or metal. Old-timer bluesmen and women would often use a beer bottle neck. This band is so good, they do this kind of groovy stuff but more traditional blues too, its all great.
Saw Derek Trucks when he was about 10 years old, he could play the slide like a pro even back then. He's played in The Allman Brothers Band, where his idol Duane Allman was the slide guitarist. Butch Trucks was the drummer. You should listen to In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, or Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers.
Current line up is 3 backup singers, 3 horns, 2 drummers, keyboard, bass, lead guitar (Derek Trucks), lead vocals and guitar (Susan Tedeschi, Derek and Susan are married to each other).
Jess, this is a great underrated band. They are on tour frequently. The story goes late 1990's, early 2000's Susan (Tedeschi) and Derek (Trucks) were in separate bands. They met while on tour at the same place and of course, fell in love, got married and combined both bands. The band does have about 10 members. Derek is related to Butch Trucks who was the drummer for Allman Brothers band. For a better version, if you want to watch on your own try Midnight in Harlem live at Orpheum Theater in Madison, Wisconsin 2015. Its the whole concert but the time stamps are in the description. Didn't do it here bc its 4 minutes longer but the guitar work is so good. Another song would be "Anyhow" live in studio.
Hi Jessie ! WOW ! The Tedschi Trucks Band ! And my favourite song fron them ! I love this band so much,,,. although I haven't seen them live, since the tickets are quite expensive. But I love blues and blues-rock music and I also love to go to such concerts regularly. Thank you for reacting to this reqiest and for being open to any genre of music and see the beauty in each and every one of these genres. You truly understand music and can feel it in your heart and soul... and that's one reason why I love your channel so much and decided to become a patreon ! Still waiting for your Eivor reaction... but I am patient, as you have probably figured out already. 🙂 Best wishes from Germany to TX : Gerry
There's no way that's a plastic slide. I've never even seen a plastic slide. I'd bet my paycheck it's glass. I have glass, ceramic, steel, and brass slides. Back in the day, a slide guitarist was likely to just use a beer bottle. Some companies even make slides using glass that is or was used for beer bottles.
Yes, this is "slide guitar". Instead of standard tuning, every sting is tuned the same, to make the full fretboard playable at any point. Without this device on the hand, that presses down every string, it makes more sense to tune the guitar based on what the human hand can do. This leads to the stings being tuned to: EADGBE, instead of every string being tuned to the same note in slide guitar.
I've been listening to Susan Tedeschi way back to her first album (before she ever married and teamed up with Derek Trucks to form the Tedeschi Trucks band). You should listen to Susan's solo work. She is a great blues guitarist in her own right and has a great bluesy voice. It's funny though because her singing voice has so much power and her speaking voice is rather soft. If you knew nothing about her, you would never guess this soft spoken lady has such a powerful singing voice.
Florence Welch is similar. She speaks in such a soft voice that sometimes its hard to hear her but then she belts it out when she sings. Wonder if thats self-taught with some singers to protect their voices.
The old Delta Blues boys used to play the slide with bottle necks - old Mississippi John Hurt used to say in his show ( saw him in a basement club in Kent Ohio ) " my Daddy made me a beefbone to put on my finger "
It's a Coricidin bottle there are a few people that use them for slide guitar I believe they make copy's of them now,and she does big and belty .and yeah its a 12 piece band.
The band has 12 members including Derek and Susan. They have a great sound. Don't worry about not knowing about the slide on Dereks finger. Alot of old guitar players used them for that unique sound.
Derek trucks is the modern GOAT of blues/Rock slide guitar 🎸👍🫠
That solo brings a smile to my face and a tear in my eye He is amazing

the best live band in the world right now
Along with BlackBerry Smoke ... that would be an incredible show
marlew IS CORRECT

Awesome that you found tedeschi trucks band. He's considered the best slide guitarists of all time.

Saw them 3 times in the last year...EACH TIME was better than the last...NOT 1 BAD SONG

These are all musicians who are part of the band. These are the musicians who other musicians look up to.

thank you for telling me about the band :D I'm looking forward to checking out more from them
It's a bottleneck slide...their entire Revelator album is fantastic - guitars sound like they are singing at the beginning
One of the best voices in the business right there!! ❤
The object on his finger is actually called a slide. Could be made of glass or metal. Popular with blues players.
Having seen them live, Wow is a good description.
His left hand is so precise and fast, it makes the camera look wrong.
Listen to their live performance of Darlin Be Home Soon; it’s a cover of an old song by The Lovin Spoonful

Derek is bottle-necking, been happening in blues-rock ever since the genre was birthed.
TTB is the best live band touring right now.
you saw/heard them on 'Playing For Change When The Levee Breaks' a few days ago.
i remember! :D
@@flowersafterrainfallGive Angel of Montgomery/Sugaree a listen from Tedeschi Trucks Band..you wont regret it
That plastic tube is called a slide. Lovely reaction btw

TH-cam video rec: "Angel From Montgomery/Sugaree" is a great pair of covers that TTB does.

That thing on his finger is a slide. Specifically, that is Duane Allman's Coricidin bottle

12 people in the band!
I’d make the suggestion to check them out, live at the Fox theater, doing Keep on Growing. It’s also amazing ☺️
Check out their cover of Layla , live at LOCKN, 2019. Derek is the best gutarist living today, and Susan's voice is full of soul.
You're looking at the greatest living slide guitarist.
Watch more TTB videos. Susan can really belt it out.
This is the band. Except that organist/keyboard player Kofi Burbridge died in 2019 RIP Kofi.
Still would love to hear Susan sing with Bonnie Raitt...

That IS the band, BTW Susan and Derek are husband and wife.
Tedeschi is her last name - Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi

Allman Brothers ' Statesboro Blues ' I was 18 when it came out
Tedesco means German. Tedeschi is plural, "Germans", in Italian.
