Derek is the home of the soul of Duane Allman. Duane is considered to be the Godfather of the electric slide guitar. His untimely death at 24 years old, left a void in the guitar universe. I believe that soul wandered looking for a home to continue on with and I believe Derek became that home. Derek plays the way Duane would have had he lived. Derek has been playing on stage since he was 10. By 13 he was a regular featured slide player for The ABB. B.B. King called him the best he's heard. He and Susan met and for a longtime tried to make room for each other in their hectic touring lives. Finally, they decided the only way they could date is if they got married. They also decided that they would join their two bands together and tour. They told their respective bands they were welcome to join together with them and make one big band. Some members chose to move in a different direction knowing the door was always open to them to come back. They still have that policy and from time to time old members like JJ Johanson (Jaimoe) has come back a couple of times. He was one of the founding members of The ABB. Today he is the last of the original band still living. Derek's Uncle Butch was also an original member of ABB as a drummer. Susan has the best Blues voice out there. She also is a very good Blues guitarist and has a solo or two each concert set.

I saw him play guitar at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack in Atlanta. He was a kid. I didn’t know his legacy but I told him to stick with it that he’ll be great. He graciously just thanked me.
Where have you been?!?! Susan put our her first album in 1998 and Derek has been blowing people away since he was a pre-teen! Just saw them again in Austin, TX last summer. Sooooo great in concert!
Susan and the band were touring in Ireland a while ago and on their off nights she would take an acoustic guitar and hit the local pubs and sing with the pub patrons. Derek Trucks is one of the best slide guitarists on Earth.

RIP Kofi, miss you brother! Kofi Burbridge was the brother of Oteil who played in the Derek Trucks Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, TTB, and The Allman Brothers Band. KoKo Taylor, Deborah Coleman, Ruthie Foster, Samantha Fish, Shamika Copeland, Sue Foley, Beth Hart, Janiva Magness, Ana Popovic... gonna cut it there because I could be here all day...
Midnight In Harlem is a song that, once heard, will haunt you forever - it can't be unheard! I can't wait for you to review that one, Sebs! Also, this band has the most talented backing singers!
They live in Jacksonville Fl and have played many times at various venues here in town and I will be honest I have never seen them. I know they are a very good band. I saw Derek when he was younger with the Allman Brothers at the Florida Theater.
I'm so glad you discovered TTB. IMO, they are *the* best touring band in existence right now. (Their albums haven't quite conveyed the magic of the shows for me.) They're not a nostalgia act, but they kind of continue the tradition of the music of the late '60s and early '70s. Susan is one of my all-time favorite singers and Derek is a one-of-a-kind guitar player. Each of them had a separate band for years before they started TTB. Check out Susan's "It Hurts."
Incidentally , Susan is a fine blues guitar player in her own right. Fender recently introduced a Susan Tedeschi signature Telecaster. It's based on Susan's early 1990s Tele, which is covered with autographs from music greats.
Bonnie Raitt’s on Tour NOW. Tickets for her New Orleans show already in hand. 🤘 Check out that live performance by The Tedeshi Trucks Band of “Midnight In Harlem” from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival. It’s the finest version by a mile…. Also for a treat, Susan and husband Derek are guest performers for Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones’ reworked version of, “When The Levee Breaks.” It was produced for the charitable music organization called, “Playing For Change.” Derek and Susan put their considerable talents on full display…. ✨
Great react video. Love how you show your research cuts when you want an answer to something during the vid. Wish more reactors did that. If you like Derek’s slide playing would you react to one of my favs. Allman Brothers Band - Desdemona (Live at Beacon Theatre, March 2003)
Sebs, love your commentary during your explorations. I’m an old country and blues guy with a little old school 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s rock. Several of the guys I played with back in high school went on to make their living playing with blues, country and jazz stars of the 70’s, wish I had half of their talent and abilities. Sold my old horn ten years ago to a dude that was looking to replace the same brand glad it’s gone to a much better set of chops playing around the NOLA music scene.
Derek is the greatest guitarist alive. He has been great since he was a little kid. Every time I haven't listened to him in a while a and i hear him again end up listening to Derek Trucks for hours.
I heard their song "Made Up Mind" on my local radio station in 2013. That's how I found them. Their genre doesn't lead them to the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. That's why you haven't heard of them. Great vocals and guitars!!
Here's a little story. I went out one evening in 1987 in Columbia, SC. A guy asked me if I came to hear the phenom kid guitar player from Jacksonville playing that night. Told him no I didn't know anything about him and wasn't staying long. The 9 year old kid phenom turned out to be Derek Trucks. Of course accompanied by his adult circle.
We see them at least once a year. Our adult kids usually go along making them our favorite family concert to see together. Kofe Burbridge, the keyboardist and flautist, unfortunately passed a few years back, devasting the band. His brother used to play with the band too. They are multi-instrumentalists. Their dad made Kofe play the flute when he was growing up but Kofe really wanted to play the piano and eventually mastered that as well. Incredibly talented loss. The band as a whole is an incredible live band to see.
The flute solo is the thing that stood out to me when I first heard it. I had been a fan of the band for sometimes before that, so I was well aware of how amazing Susan and Derek were. Watch the Live on Etown version of Midnight in Harlem if you want to be completely blown away. comes in at exactly 8:00.
Even though I am an old Boomer I try to keep current with most Genres but there is so much music available now with the Internet. I hadn't heard of this group and it's why I love reaction videos. This is great... She does justice to this and being raised on Bonnie that says a lot! Thanks for introducing me to this band. 🎉🎉🎉
After you played the Allman Brothers I thought I should tell you about TTB. BTW Derek Trucks is the nephew of Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers
They are THE BEST LIVE TOURING BAND in the land, as of today. DT is pretty much baddest dude in all of guitar playing. Effortless playing. Please, please, please check out their live cover of Keep on Growing by Derek & the Dominoes
I'm a big Grateful Dead fan, and I love that they threw their song Sugaree into the middle of this. Angel from Montgomery, my favorite by John Prine, just made this set for me. Tedeschi Trucks Band is excellent.
Saw them the other night and they never disappoint ❤ they preform like bands did years ago. The jam and are such great musicians. So tight! Best concert out there now!👌🏻
Without actually looking it up, I'd be willing to bet he has that Gibson outfitted with Seymour Duncan P90 pickups. That cutting, vaguely gravely mid-tone is right in a P90's sweet spot and has a distinctive sound profile. And for blues particularly, that tone is very well suited. Great reaction, bro! OK, curiosity got the better of me. Amazingly, he's just using stock '57 PAF pickups, so he must be getting that tone out of his setup. Just goes to show, more than one way to bottle that lightening!
And also check out Dereck and Susan in Playing for Change's video of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks". You'll find lots of other wonderful musicians and singers in that video too. That's where I first encountered Tedeschi Trucks Band.
In 2007 two seperate groups toured together, Derek Trucks Band and and Susan Tedeschi's band. The tour was called the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival. It took time, but the couple merged romantically and professionally, touring together as the new Tedeschi Trucks Band in April of 2010. Thier first record, Revelator was released in 2011 and won a Grammy award for best blues album. The rest, as they say, is R&R history. Just a few of many must-listen suggestions: Midnight in Harlem, Bound For Glory, Anyhow, and Darlin Be Home Soon. They did a wonderful cover of Etta James classic I'd Rather Go Blind at the White House for President Obama and Michelle in 2012 that is worthy of a watch and listen. Also, I just love some of Susan's solo stuff, pre TTB, such as It Hurt So Bad and Rock Me Right. Thanks for reacting, nice rabbit hole to jump into.

Slide guitar from a 13 year old prodigy blew a few Georgians away that night.
I saw him play guitar at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack in Atlanta. He was a kid. I didn’t know his legacy but I told him to stick with it that he’ll be great. He graciously just thanked me.
There is so much lore around this group. Derek Trucks alone has a richer blues history than most living artists.
I have seen them 12 times!! One of my favorite bands, they are simply incredible. Please check out more!
I saw them every year since the beginning. Love them
Maybe the best touring band alive, absolutely incredible live
Where have you been?!?! Susan put our her first album in 1998 and Derek has been blowing people away since he was a pre-teen! Just saw them again in Austin, TX last summer. Sooooo great in concert!
Best touring band on the planet!
You are killing their name! I tune in to hear your funny comments! You have so much to learn about the 70’s music. But keep it up.
Susan and the band were touring in Ireland a while ago and on their off nights she would take an acoustic guitar and hit the local pubs and sing with the pub patrons. Derek Trucks is one of the best slide guitarists on Earth.
Derek Trucks is just simply amazing.. Susan's voice is just blues magic
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Trucks He is one of the best slide players in the world. He is a blues legend himself
I love the short cover of the Dead. Derek is flat out the best slide guitarist out there, & has been for a long time. ✌️❤️🎶
Do more and I will watch more. These guys are the best.
My friend, you have a LOT to look forward to!! Wait til you get a good dose of horns!! TTB is absolutely one of the hottest bands in the land, with a big catalog, including tons of original material as well as great covers like the entire Layla album, the entire Mad Dogs and Englishmen album (Joe Cocker), and of course many Allman Brothers tunes since Derek did about 15 years as a member! RIP Kofi, miss you brother! Kofi Burbridge was the brother of Oteil who played in the Derek Trucks Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, TTB, and The Allman Brothers Band. He’s currently the bass player for Dead and Company. Lots of dots to connect here, with tons of modern music history!
Watch you react to many songs from my past.Never heard this band or song.Wanted to hear something for the first time with you.Thank you brother and God bless you and your family.😎🇺🇸
Uh , best touring Band on circuit today...and uh they are not a new Band, ..can't type the discography of Derek Trucks...fell in love with Susan , on her own solo career in 90s . married, and during Pandemic, kept their band together, recorded 27 songs at their home, released I AM THE MOON, in four parts......best damn band on the planet....if they come near your area..run to aee !
TTB, Thanks for June 14th, 2024, in Tulsa. ❤
They're on tour now and will be here in Chattanooga Nov 4, hope to make it. Well done as usual Sebs!
I'm watching this cause I like to see how people look when something so powerful hits thim in their ears. PS her name is pronounced Ted-ESS-ski. It's an Italian name- she's from Boston.
Welcome to the best live touring band out there today. Hands down!! They usually tour with a 12-14 member group of musicians and singers.
That Is the VOICE OF AN ANGEL!!!😊
I've not heard a lot of their music, but what I've heard is top notch for what they do. I actually didn't know this was the song you were playing... NICE!!!! Very nice play!
I watch these videos that you post just to see your face your amazement because I know about all these bands but it's always good to see something in case I may have missed it
Derek was a child prodigy who had his own band at age 9. His Uncle Butch Trucks was a drummer and one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers.
I showed up one random day because you appeared on my feed reacting to one of my favorite songs. I clicked because you remind me of my son. I stayed and keep coming back because watching your reactions to music makes my heart happy. Some great women Blues singers to add to your collection (I can give you a ton...) KoKo Taylor, Deborah Coleman, Ruthie Foster, Samantha Fish, Shamika Copeland, Sue Foley, Beth Hart, Janiva Magness, Ana Popovic... gonna cut it there because I could be here all day...
Midnight In Harlem is a song that, once heard, will haunt you forever - it can't be unheard! I can't wait for you to review that one, Sebs! Also, this band has the most talented backing singers!
I went to high school with Mikey Mattison... brilliant vocalist who hooked up with really really really right people! Love this band!
after the musical journey , one GRADUATES to TTB
Welcome to an amazing group. Derek Trucks was in Allman brothers.
I came here just to see you face when Derek played
Best band on the planet. I've seen them 75 times and will see them four times this week. It's pronounced Tedeski
I enjoy your presentations and the music take me back.
They live in Jacksonville Fl and have played many times at various venues here in town and I will be honest I have never seen them. I know they are a very good band. I saw Derek when he was younger with the Allman Brothers at the Florida Theater.
Midnight in Harlem is a must....also Derek Truks at 13....playing with Eric Clapton. LAYLA
Should have come with stickers 😊
Also--- HE IS “”THE GOAT””” of slide guitarist!!! Hell yeah.
I just saw them two weeks ago, and I'm seeing them again in two more weeks. This musicianship is a whole other level.
Midnight In Harlem is a MUST!!!
May I recommend Until You Remember at the O2 & Gravity at Red Rocks 😎
Angel from Montgomery is a John Prine song that both TT band and Bonnie covered and were good friends with John!
This is a first for me. Hearing of them and hearing them! I'm sold!!😊
Saw them in DC back in February and again last week in Maryland. To say they were tight and amazing is an understatement.
