I fail to understand the resistance to rye by so many. I think part of the problem is many are in areas with a lot of ag as I am. You are not going to compete with Joe Farmer! I want something that helps and attracts deer after the crops have been harvested and rye and radishes are awesome. Deer here will dig down through the snow for both all winter and come spring the rye is the 1st protein available when the really need it. I let the farmers around me plant the clovers, beans.corn and such. I'll not waste time and money on anything but that combo on my plots.
I totally agree! Unless you have large scale equipment to plan corn and soybeans then rye,wheat, radish and other brassicas work perfectly for the fall and even into the winter. I have had really great results planting rye grain and will continue to add it into my fall planting program.
