how are they underrated ? i mean, i’m only asking because i’ve seen them play numerous times and they were always great and there was always a good crowd.
I was a sophomore at Northern Arizona University in '78, living in a 4-story dorm where the top floor was the "quiet floor" for studious nerds. I heard this song blasting out the window of a roudy 2nd floor room, on repeat, and went down to confront the students. After pounding on the door, and announcing that I heard the music up on the 4th floor, the obviously inebriated dudes asked me not to tell the RA - that they'd turn it down. I told them "No, man - TURN IT UP! That song is AWESOME! Who is that group?!" I've been a Trick fan ever since. Saw them half a dozen times in the '80s, once in the '00s, and just missed them last night in Marion, IL. Would have gone if hadn't been on call at my hospital. Shouldn't have studied so hard at NAU.
🤫 they don't know their underrated. We know better. They play everywhere. Twelve years ago saw their tour bus in a small venue in Illinois. Missed again.
I fell asleep one night in front of the tv and when I woke up I was in a great mood because my dreams were like heavenly and who was on the tube? Cheap Trick live and that angelic voice. Soooooo great.
I always thought it was probably their strongest material, It just has that 10,11,12th grade vibe when that guitar, bass, drums comes crashing down on top of, Goin to a party, meet me on after school ! We all had those moments after lunch where a plan was hatched, and it was on.
Pretty positive that the guitar intro is a song from the Beatles 1967 Sgt Peppers album. I was born in 1968 and one of my 1st memories was two albums playing over and over at our 1st house, and one was Sgt Peppers, and the other was the 1970 Jesus Christ Superstar album. I was born in Port Washington WI, which is a half hr south of Milwaukee, and my dads best friends dad owned a bowling alley in Milwaukee called Sunset Bowl, and we'd go there throughout the 70s and "true story" Cheap Trick used to play there in the mid 70s on Sat and Sunday nights. That was when they were basically just a garage band from IL, and Chicago is only a 90 minute drive from Milwaukee. I didn't know this until around 1979 when my dad told me one day when we were driving and I want you " " " came on the radio. That same year my 6th grade friends and I did CA man at the talent show, and I was living in So CA by then and have been here ever since.
@dadblair I was there with you dude. That was my time also 78-79 year i graduated. Great year for rock and roll some of the best rock albums came out in that two year period.
Great band who loves the Beatles and Jeff Lynne. If you did not know, "California Man" originally was written by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood of The Move, the Beatles loving band that would eventually become the Electric Light Orchestra. All music goes through the Fab 4. Awesome, Cheap Trick!
@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac In 1970, Roy Wood threw Jeff Lynne a lifeline to abandon the unsuccessful Idle Race and join him in The Move. Lynne was first asked by Woody to join The Move in 1969 when Trevor Burton left, Lynne decided to soldier on confident that the Idle Race would find success, after their self titled second album "Idle Race" failed to grab the music buyers attention and Wood asking Lynne to replace Carl Wayne in The Move, he took up Woody's offer providing they could both go ahead with Woody's "Electric Light Orchestra" project. ELO was born in July 1970 when Woody laid down some heavy cello riffs for Lynne's projected Move 'B' side about an escaped prisoner called "10538", Lynne loved Woody's heavy metal cello licks and he renamed the song "10538 Overture" and it became the first ever ELO recording.
There are so many awesome live real good quality videos both audio and video on youtube. More than any other band that i can see. These guys belong in the rock and roll hall of fame it is a travasty they are not in.
one of the most underrated live bands of all time
Definitely -- super fun to watch!
how are they underrated ? i mean, i’m only asking because i’ve seen them play numerous times and they were always great and there was always a good crowd.
@@mikebockey4125 I think they’re very respected. They’re not underrated so much as taken for granted. Long live Cheap Trick!!

Robin Zander , what a great singer .
I've never seen a band with 30 strings ........ never mind a bass with 12
Whatta nightmare to mix, Amiright?
He is so cute and amazing singer.
A Roy Wood classic, yes he who co-owns Christmas along with Slade, from his days with The Move the self titled “The King of Rock and Roll”
Tom is awesome, what a smile, what a bass player.
He is an amazing bass player, and yes, that smile causes me to blush.
Such a GREAT BAND!! Shhhhh, don’t tell anybody!
Love that he plays George Harrison's "Within You, Without You" at the beginning!
+Phil Turner Cheap Trick are fans of The Beatles.

Nice grab.
I thought I was hearing a Beatle's vibe
Hope Roy likes this fantastic version .
A good rock n roll song never dies :-)
Great song from Roy Wood and the Move. Both versions rock the soul!
Greatest American Band of All Time
Awesome video, the sound quality is top rated! Rick is on fire here.
Once shared a train carriage to London with the band after a gig I saw them at in Oxford back in 1979. It was a wild two hours LOL!!
Tom's smile is so alluring.

My favorite 70's classic American arena rock bands are Aerosmith, Heart and CHEAP TRICK!!!!
used to listen to this in my friends truck every friday after school 1978 and its still a great song by ct.
I always thought it was probably their strongest material, It just has that 10,11,12th grade vibe when that guitar, bass, drums comes crashing down on top of, Goin to a party, meet me on after school ! We all had those moments after lunch where a plan was hatched, and it was on.
Honored to have grown up with them.

At that time they played the bars and clubs in DeKalb, Il, home of Northern Illinois University, regularly.
@dadblair I was there with you dude. That was my time also 78-79 year i graduated. Great year for rock and roll some of the best rock albums came out in that two year period.
These guys knew The Move had the goods... like the way Nielsen busts into Brontosaurus for a couple of bars.
The most under-rated band ever! Love every album.

I'm confident enough in my masculinity that I can say this...that Robin Zander is one beautiful creature. 👻
Lifelong Cheap Trick fans know that when you get up close to the stage, Rick flips the sweat from his cap into your faces.
I saw them open for Journey in '78. I was there to see Cheap Trick.

No. it's a Roy Wood song; Jeff Lynne played on it but had no part in the writing.
@@BreekieMe Jeff Lynne was the beginning of the end for The Move and ELO made more money but were never half as interesting or half as much fun
@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac In 1970, Roy Wood threw Jeff Lynne a lifeline to abandon the unsuccessful Idle Race and join him in The Move.
