I think a key important miss was a film like "desatanakili karayarilla" by padmarajan. We have had a golden age of experimental and unconventional cinema before. But perhaps insisting that LGBT films must have a "happy ending" is not the solution, if the point of cinema is to capture and represent realities. And in that sense, these are commendable achievements, just like Brokeback Mountain for instance, which attempts to rewrite American western cowboy films into an accommodative LGBT narrative despite the dark and tragic ending, because well, that is how things are for the community and non normative sexualities.

Yes sir. But im not taking about the happy ending or positive approach. But including "deshadanakili karayarila", the climax was similar. Death happened .. How can we relate these films (climax)? That's my question. And i don't think so the death / sucide is the reality or representation in our society, in the case of these communities

Whether we like it or not, perhaps things are not easy for people who can be considered "non-normative". Be it in terms of sexuality, race or class. Perhaps, the best way to showcase their reality is to show how they are driven to the point of suicide (or other forms of destruction) because they have no way of integration or any other way out.

If there is a daring crew I presume it is much easy to give a happy or a tragic ending to a film representing the LGBTQIA and the marginalized communities. But the thing is they are visual representation imagined in the heads of a few. In other words they might be portraying either what they want to show or what the society need to see. In both cases it might be just their wish or yearn or hope or can be just a story to make sure that they are open and progressive towards non- normative communities at the same time they can be purely hypocritical in their stands too. So whether it's a happily ever after ending or tragic ending doesn't change the fact that the lived experience and reality about this community might not be that colourful as a rainbow. But it will be a worth move if such kinds of films are experimented even if doesn't have a happy ending.

In the case of films, directly or indirectly ends with tragedy, but its very subtle. Most of the spectators are failed to identity this irony.
In my perspective, it's not a normal thing. Because the gaze is from the point of view of a "script writer or director ", right?
Perhaps they are not homosexual or something like that.
Then how can they end up these stories like that? In some cases, yes, there is a hope shown in the end. But i don't think so, that's the right way to give a good conclusion.

@@themoviefilter3954 But even if it ends in a happy note for example do you really think that it changes the fact that they are still a non- normative community and gets accepted as they are by the spectators? So what I think is that when you add a happy ending it just gives an ending by suggesting that things might get better soon or later like an anticipated future well being that has not yet happened and we are not sure about it. So whether it is a positive ending or not and not even the approval of the spectators that matters in my opinion. But the readiness from the film directors and script writers to focus on this topic and experiment films based on that. In this way they can normalise the fact that it is okay to tell stories without caring much about what the crowd says.

@@rosemolthomas9912But now. Things are happen in positive ways too. So many gay couples or lesbian couples live freely and fearlessly without disturbing others. In some places, peoples are accepting the reality and they saw as a normal thing. Iam not arguing. But the harsh realties are changing and some places, it changed. They lives as a normal human beings.

@@themoviefilter3954 Be it in films or real life I think it's better that we don't expect for a perfectly optimistic ending. Let things turn out how it has to be. So it might end up in a better way as you said when people start to accept and normalise LGBTQIA community. In that case we are not giving anybody any false hopes but what if things turn out in the way we wanted one day unknowingly and ends in an optimistic note. Isn't it also a better way..

Each and every films regarding this theme was very unique, bold, different. But, the pattern is contradictory. Sometimes i think, how this script writers turns the climax into this way. I just focused on that contradiction. Anyway, thanks for responding 🫂, expecting more valuable comments from you.
