Oh Becky thank you so much for sharing both table scapes with us!! Both reminded me of my Mom, who passed away 17 years ago at only 66 yrs old. Thanksgiving was the highlight of her year since I was 6 years old, when my Mamaw, her Mom passed away and hosting her entire family was passed down to her. She would get so excited, a bit stressed too, lol, because she wanted everything to be as perfect, festive and homey as possible. My parents weren’t rich, not even close, but my Mom wanted her 70’s decor to be spot on with the trend of decade! It was so important to her but they didn’t have the money for her to go buy tablecloths, cloth napkins, all the dishes to match, etc… However, Mamaw had taught Mom to sew extremely well, and I have such fond memories of us going to the little fabric shop in town and picking out new fabric for her to make a new tablecloth one year, placemats the next year, cloth napkins the following year, then the year after that we’d start again.😊 My Daddy worked so hard as a car salesman, long hours to make extra money so he could buy Mom nice dishes, glasses and decor she had been “eyeing”. Those items he would buy for her birthday, which was Oct. 24th, that way she would have new things for her Family Thanksgiving lunch gathering. Daddy even saved an extra stash of money for her birthday and would take me with him to birthday shop for her, since I knew exactly what she wanted and even extra decor pieces she liked, but would never buy for herself because she knew we couldn’t afford them. He would have me pick out 2 of the nice decor pieces for my brother and I to give her for her birthday, as a surprise, besides the dishes or serving pieces he was giving her to add to her collection to make her Thanksgiving table more beautiful than the year before. For me that was one of the most meaningful acts of kindness and love my Daddy did for her because he knew how important it was for her and how appreciative she would be of receiving gifts that she not only wanted but also would be useful! My Daddy, like your David, was a fantastic woodworker and could build anything, which he did for Mom as well as for me once I married. I really love both table settings, even with mixed patterns of dishes, cloth napkins & centerpieces. Later in the 80’s & 90’s Mom gave almost all of her 70’s dishes, glassware and matching placemats and napkins she’d made to one of her sisters that their home had burned down, so I don’t have any of those gorgeous dishes from my childhood, but I’m so glad my aunt enjoyed them for many years and passed them down to her son and daughter in law. You and my Mom would have been BEST FRIENDS. Thanks again for bringing my fond childhood memories of Thanksgiving table decor back, I truly appreciate it. You’re the best!!❤ Love, Paula
Paula, what a beautiful tribute to both your mom and your dad. That is what love and marriage are all about. I love that your mom would actually make the things she could not afford and still pull off a showpiece of a table scape. You are absolutely right we would have been the best of friends. This story just blesses my heart in so many ways thank you so much for sharing it with me. ❤️❤️❤️
Becky, both tablescapes are beautiful, I love them both but my choice would be #2 because the polka dot napkins are awesome and I love the pizazz it gave to the table. I love watching your videos because you’re so fun and it’s like hanging out with your bestie. Congrats on that beautiful nephew. Adorable. 🧡🤎💛
I love both table settings. I in 50 years of home making owned cloth napkins but if I did I would have the polka dots. Love them make me smile. Second table scape looks so warm and inviting! Love it. Thank you for sharing! 😘
Those are both pretty table scapes. Don’t sell yourself short. You do a great job and we’re all here because your videos are fun, informative and entertaining! Thanks for sharing with us! Congrats on your new nephew!
The napkin goes on the left with the fork. A little style wih the napkins. Lay the beige napkin down and place polka dot on top and pull up from center. Then use napkin ring and lay napkin on plate. Then lay fork on left with knife and spoon on right. Just a suggestion and I'm not a matching person either. I love all styles and I think you should enjoy what you like. Have a great week!
Both tablescapes are beautiful! The first one is more my style, but the second one gave me warm cozy vibes! I think if your table reflects your personality, all the better! My two best friends and I all have distinctly different styles, but we enjoy visiting each other and checking out the different decor. We went shopping together yesterday for Christmas decor and it was fun looking at things that were perfect for each other. And having been friends for about fifty years, we’ve evolved and changed, but we can pretty well pick what the other will like!
I will always be sad that I did not stay close to my childhood best friend. Having a bestie for 50 years is probably the most beautiful thing I have heard about all year. Take care of each other.
I always place the napkin on the left of the plate on the napkin. Then I put the fork and spoon on the table on the right side. The table looks nice both ways and thanks for showing the options. ❤
When setting the table for an everyday dinner or a casual meal, the napkin should be placed on the left side of the plate, underneath the forks. The napkin should be about 1 inch away from the plate, and the folded side of the napkin should be on the right, facing the plate. You can also roll the napkin and put it in a napkin ring and place it on the table to the left of the plate and the fork.
I really liked both settings & is difficult to pick one over the other. But maybe my fav. is setting no. 1. BUT i do love no. 2 with the polka dot napkins.
Becky, I don’t think of myself as fancy at all,nor do I want to be the tablescape police. Since you did ask, napkins can be placed on the left side of the plate, on top of the plate, or in the center of the plate. Paper napkins are better on the left side. My fun is monthly tablescapes and I do use cloth napkins. Not expensive at all. Some of those paper napkins can be very expensive so money is not usually my deciding factor. Mine comes from Amazon. Becky, you have your silverware correct. You do you sweet girl . Most of us are here because you are fun and we enjoy your excitement for holidays and vintage finds. A lot of the things you collect I tossed out years ago when old was not cool!!!😂 I Look forward to your videos . ❤
The tablescapes are so beautiful! I do love the first one just a tad better, but both options are beautiful, and I love the polka dot napkins! I place my silverware exactly like you and I agree with you, I think mismatched placements feel so comfy, warm and cozy. Love the orange napkins too! The centerpieces are both gorgeous! What a wonderful inspirational video, thank you Becky! 🌻❤🌻
Hi Becky! Really loved option 2! We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia! I personally sit napkins in the middle of the top plate. Silverware on the table.Loved your video! Look forward to your next one! Please keep them coming Becky!!!!! 💕🌻🌻🌻🦃
I'm going to try Kay, I wish I had more days during the week to devote to making videos. I find myself trying to do everything in one day and there just isn't enough hours in the day to do it all.
Hi Becky, I love both tablescapes. The first is more classic/elegant Thanksgiving, say you were having someone over you didn’t see all the time. The second one is more fun and would be shared with your immediate family and close family and friends. The polka dot napkins are so cute, and the round suns on the glassware mimic the polka dots on the napkins. I miss decorating for thanksgiving,I have a lot of beautiful ceramic items my Mom made and handed down. I take a lot of time with my Christmas decorating,so I go straight into that, since I don’t host Thanksgiving. I was just telling my husband how much I miss Thanksgiving decorations, so next year I would like to,make a shelf or hutch be dedicated to I throughout the Fall season.I think we are all starting Christmas sooner than when I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. I think the holiday is getting passed over, yet it is so important, and I am guilty of the same thing. Thank you for sharing this video and bringing back memories!🙏❤️
I love watching your tablescapes. It reminds me of my favorite fair exhibit by the 4 h club. They would do complete settings and were judged on proper placement including how far from the edge of the table the plates were placed. I have mismatched silverware as well! I like #2 best.
There is a ladies club near me that used to do something similar. They would decorate a whole tablescape around different purses. It was so fun to see how they turned out. They did it as part of a fundraiser.
I love your tablescape both of them but my favourite is the second one. It’s beautiful. I’m the same way, I don’t even own cloth napkins 😂. Great video Becky, thank you 🩷
Hi Becky, I like Tablescape #2 the best. Re. napkins, if am using cloth, then I will place them on the plate, usually with some sort of napkin ring. If I'm using paper, I put them under the fork.
🍁Becky, I love your tablescape videos and adore the centerpiece with the floral tureen ! Table setting #1 is perfect. I would have used the polka dots, so cute for a choice.🧡 A basic table setting would have the fork on the left, the knife on the right, and the spoon next to the knife on the right. More formal dinners have settings with soup, salad and appetizers; they will have more flatware pieces such as a larger soup spoon to the right of the tea spoon and a smaller salad fork and appetizer fork on the left of the dinner fork. The dessert fork and spoon go at the top of the plate sideways if you have room. If you don't you can place them next to the other forks and spoons or bring them out with the dessert. The napkin is always on the left. The water goblets goes above the knife. If you are serving wine or beer that glass goes on the outside of the water glass. My mother taught me this, but we can ask on the computer how to set a table and it will show charts. I look up things that I may forget. About Table Napkins: Absolutely use what makes you smile. The napkins can be simply placed flat, or folded in shapes or simply rolled long way or short way with napkin rings which can be plastic wood or interesting metal shapes. Brass would be nice. Some people place them folded in a pyramid and placed on the plate. NOTE: 👉🏼 Cloth napkins are not always used for the face and fingers. My mother had us use them on our laps to protect our clothes and have the fancy paper ones for face/fingers. The cloth just adds interest with color, texture and fun. Don't worry about your silverware, but since you love doing tablescapes and are so good at it, I can see some better flatware in your future. 🧐 You would love it. It comes in many colors and even 2 toned now.
I am certainly going to work on getting a better silverware set together. That will be something to look for in 2025. I also love the info about using the napkin for your lap and having a paper napkin at the table at well. I never even though of doing that. Your mother seems to have been a very smart and distinguished lady. ❤️
I thought about pulling some out but I had already packed all of my fall things away I was being lazy. But I agree a few little pumpkins would have pulled it all together.
Hi Becky! You've done an amazing job, of course! Both tablescapes are lovely, but the 2nd one is my favorite. ❤ Thank you so much for always inspiring us, even if that means decorating to please the masses. 😂 I hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving with your family, as well! And I'm super excited for your Christmas decorating inspiration videos! Can't wait! ❤
Lovely as usual. I think I'll go with the first setting but something about the second place setting is giving me the "primitive" vibe which I appreciate.
I like the second one best but the first one is pretty also. I hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving with your family ❤🍁🍂😊 I love watching tablescape videos 😊
If you don't use a tablecloth or placemat, then that fork would indeed sit right on the table. If it was me.......I would just put all three utensils on the folded napkin! I love both tablescapes (you're so bright and happy to watch!) but I think I liked the first one best. You have such pretty things.
Just when I think I couldn’t love you more you go and say something that makes me say YES!!!! I don’t use cloth napkins! We were at a restaurant once and a guy blew his nose on a cloth napkin, I couldn’t tell if I was gonna throw up or just die!!!! Ever since if they have cloth napkins I ask for paper. I just can’t do it!! I do love the second table scape with the orange napkins but I will say I’m probably the gaudiest person in the world! The fanciest I get is going to Hobby Lobby for paper plates and napkins that match. I love when you do the table scapes because I just love all your dishes. Thanks for the great video! Where does your family go for Thanksgiving??
I didn't want to get too detailed but that is the very reason that I don't want to use cloth napkins at a restaurant. You just don't know what the last person that used them did. I just can't. 🤢 For Thanksgiving we go to my sister Ann's house. She is the only one that can cook just like my mom and she cooks the same menu that my mom did so it is something that we all look forward to. Luckily my whole family lives in the same town so we don't have to travel very far at all.
Hi Becky! I so appreciate you and your advice! Thank you so much for taking time out from your busy day to answer my questions. I will definitely do what you’re suggesting and order that tripod! 😊 I will definitely let you know when I do my first video and post it. 📹❤
P.s. silverware can go on the napkin or the table. If formal then the napkin goes on the plate and silverware on the table. Not many people follow hard and fast rules. I personally love mixing my silverware.
Love that picture behind you! I host Thanksgiving. Thank you for the tablescape ideas. Great ideas. You are so creative! I am a Primitive lover, but I love watching your videos because of your sparkling personality and upbeat attitude. I was born in the 50’s, so grew up with the vintage style mostly until my mom switched over to “early American” style. My hubs mom was about 10 years older than my mom so do enjoy your pieces and appreciate your style. I think the vintage Betty Crocker Cookbooks, explain napkins placement and table settings. I think. Been awhile since I dug mine out, but I vaguely recall a section on that. BTW-LOVE the polka dot napkins! Anyway, thanks again Becky!
I love your center piece but I could never do that. Because my four legged furry buddy (cat) would have a field day with the flowers. LOL What I have on my table now he can't carry away. I would love to find a tray like you have and that would work. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work. Greetings from Ohio.
Thanks Cynthia, I wish I could have a cat I absolutely love them. David and Summer are deathly allergic. I can't have a real Christmas tree either. LOL
Hey lady. My table is still set for Halloween because I still need to find the perfect napkin. hahaha. I didn't really like cloth napkins until I found ones that were ABSORBENT! I didn't want BBQ sauce just laying on top getting smeared everywhere. And I always felt like paper towels were a waste. I can wash and reuse cloth. It's a struggle. haha. I think the napkin is supposed to go on the side with the fork so you can grab it first rather than moving the spoon and knife. I do think your polka dots are SUPER FUN! the white charger setting was my fav.
I always choose the safe option..place the napkin in the center of the plate with the silverware on top. Probably not the best option for you because then it hides your beautiful dishes. I also think it’s okay to put the fork on the table…but then again, I can never remember the correct placement of the silverware so I’m probably not the best person to give advice 😂
I'm going right now to watch it. David and I have been on a Little House on the Prairie bender if you can believe that and that's what we have been watching after work at night. LOL
Hey Becky! I just love your vintage decorating. I was just wondering, how did you get started with your TH-cam channel to share content? I do journaling, crafting and some other things and I was thinking about doing the same thing to just give me something additional to do. Any words of advice I would truly appreciate 😊.
I had to just get up the nerve and do it. I prayed first and feel like I received his blessing and just filmed my first video. First piece of advice is if you are using your phone make sure that it is turned landscape. If you film portrait (up and down) you will have black spaces on either side of your clips. (You can go back to my first couple of videos and you will see what I mean) Second piece of advice is stay close enough to your phone that your microphone can hear you clearly. With journaling you should be pretty stationary during filming so that shouldn't be a problem. For editing I use CapCut but there are a lot of options out there that are free. The only thing that I would immediately invest in is a tripod. I wish you luck and I would love to be your first subscriber if you will let me know when you are up and running.
Becky, confession from NYC, I set out cloth napkins and tuck a very pretty large paper napkin under the drinking glass hoping NO ONE USES THE CLOTH NAPKIN except for putting it on their lap😅😅!!

Thank you Carrie❤
Loved the second table scape! The polkadot napkins just did it for me! It looked so friendly and inviting.
Thank you Janet❤
Becky, both tablescapes are beautiful, I love them both but my choice would be #2 because the polka dot napkins are awesome and I love the pizazz it gave to the table. I love watching your videos because you’re so fun and it’s like hanging out with your bestie. Congrats on that beautiful nephew. Adorable. 🧡🤎💛
Thank you Vickie, my polka dot napkins went over better than I thought they would.
Both table settings were nice. I liked the second one more.

I love both tablescapes but if I had to pick a favorite it would be No. 2. Love the polkadot napkins and the glasses!
I always place the napkin on the left of the plate on the napkin. Then I put the fork and spoon on the table on the right side. The table looks nice both ways and thanks for showing the options. ❤
The napkin goes on the left with the fork and knife with the blade turned to the plate and spoon next to knife on the right.
To be honest I like number 2 better the glasses just set it off love them ❤️
I love both of the tablescapes. On the 2nd one I like the polka dot napkins best. Beautiful ❤
Thanks Kathy❤️
Tablescape #2 is my favorite!!!

I feel the same about not having things matching on each side. I like them staggered and like you did. Thanksgiving is my favorite tablescape to do.
Love this light muted tablescape best
The first one is very pretty but I love love love the second one!!! It’s definitely my style as well!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Becky! I loved both and especially loved the polka dot napkins! Your are so sweet and fun too watch!

I really like the polka dots😊😊😊
I like the second setting the best! I never have turkey on Thanksgiving because I'm allergic to poultry.
Thank you for sending me some more icicles Kim. I really appreciate it. I think I should be good for several Christmases thanks to you. ❤️
Hi Becky 😊
The second tablescape is my choice for you! Just lovely as always ❤

Becky I love the 2 one love those beautiful plates never seen those
Just lovely! Good, good job! You do retro very well!

Very nice ! Love that tureen !!
It was so nice to meet you today!! Loved the video as always☺️
Hi Amy! I am So glad that I had the chance to meet you today, you just made my whole day.
I just love your it's vibe...you keep doing you!
I love #2!
I would choose the second table setting the best.
Becky I love your tabkescape with the soup tureen! It is different and beautiful!!!😁🧡🎃❤👍
Great video as usual Becky😍
Both are pretty, but the first one is my favorite- watching from Lake Wales, Florida
Hi Becky! I so appreciate you and your advice! Thank you so much for taking time out from your busy day to answer my questions. I will definitely do what you’re suggesting and order that tripod! 😊 I will definitely let you know when I do my first video and post it. 📹❤
Good Luck!
P.s. silverware can go on the napkin or the table. If formal then the napkin goes on the plate and silverware on the table. Not many people follow hard and fast rules. I personally love mixing my silverware.
I like the rust color napkins and I would put a little orange in the basket. All in all it looks good! Just do u!
Love your two tables apes but loved the polka dot napkins best and thought they added pazazz to the table.
Thank you Melinda, we can all have different styles and that is perfectly okay. I'm just glad you are here and enjoying decorating your home. ❤️
I liked both 🤷🏻♀️
I really enjoy your videos 😊
Thank you so much Deborah❤
Very nice I’m a simple person also.❤
I love your center piece but I could never do that.
I love your tablescapes. So cozy! And always interesting to see how our style has evolved❤ I posted a tablescape video I think you’ll love 😂❤
I'm going right now to watch it. David and I have been on a Little House on the Prairie bender if you can believe that and that's what we have been watching after work at night. LOL
@ omg, it’s the 50th year anniversary of it. I love that show❤️
That’s such a smart idea!! I love that concept. I would a hundred percent do that trick if I ever have a dinner with cloth napkins.
