If you use chrome you can create desktop shortcuts that open up in a single window for messages, Gmail, keep, sheets, etc. I put them in my taskbar on my desktop and use them as native apps. Works like a charm and gives me that app feel instead of opening another tab
This could be a dope serious. Getting android/PC products for work and it’s nice to know what is out there for Mac users who have to use everything else
I've considered commenting so many times about messages for web whenever you talk about how seemless texting is with iPhone/Mac, but I've always resisted because I didn't want to come off as presumptuous. But it is a really nice service! I have a pixel, Windows for my work computer, and Mac for my personal computer. It's really nice because when I'm at work on my PC I can have my messages pulled up in my browser and I can do the same at home. Thanks for the tip on the nearby share option for the Mac. I have a Synology server so mostly I'll just use that but this seems like a good option if there's a larger file I need that will take a while to upload. There's rumors that Android 14 will have a continuity cam option built in, but that was a few months ago and haven't seen anything on it since. I've thought about getting an old iPhone second have just for continuity cam because it's so much better than webcams you can get at that price. Thanks for this series of videos, I've really enjoyed them as someone who has their foot in the door of both ecosystems. One more thought before I leave. I tried an iPhone X last year and had the exact opposite reaction to you in terms of the natural feel, meaning I felt like my Android behaved much more how I expected it to in terms of animations. But I think it's because I've used Android for years now, so I think it mostly just comes down to where we spend most our time.
Really appreciate this one drew. I can't stand iPhones but am getting so frustrated with windows laptops so have been considering an M1 air for my physiotherapy business. I basically need a good Chromebook as all of billing etc runs through chrome and the M1 air really is the best value Chromebook for build quality, batteryife etc. I already use google keep and google messages on my current work laptop so theres no change and I think for my use case, it's time to jump over. Thanks for this. Its going to make a meaningful improvement in my business productivity to have a light and zippy M1 air for meetings and notes etc.
@@emilsecker7881 this is why I don't argue with computer nerds. I don't want to try Linux. I don't want to tinker around. I want to open the laptop up and start typing client information, clinical notes and emails in 10 minutes of getting my new laptop and installing chrome. I want to grab it in the morning, work 10 to 12 hours and never grab a charger. Can you tell me one machine that I can buy for 1350 Australian dollars that does all that?
@@tennyson70 It works very well across multiple devices and Gsuite etc. Put yourself in the position of a business owner who just needs things to work.
Windows 11 is a very good OS in my experience but Microsoft needs to finish off the windows 11 overlay to get rid of the legacy looking settings such as control panel for all rounded consistency AND they really need to stop forcing updates on us and give us the option to choose when to update, if at all. I wouldn't use Linux either but go with what will increase productivity and not frustrate your overall experience with the configuration you eventually go with.
I am deep in the apple ecosystem but I've been eyeing some android phones lately. Do you have any advice on where to start when it comes to switching to an Android and having other apple hardware play nice?
I've been using pushbullet for 10 years and it has been the best solution because it doesn't matter which OS you are in, it will always work perfectly to share files between devices and yes its bilateral sharing
First time I’ve really heard about continuity cam since WWDC last year. I don’t know if it will work for me as my Mac is running Big Sur at the moment but something I need to try if I can
It’s probably a more common scenario to have an iPhone and a Windows laptop, like I do at work (pretty crappy btw), and to sort that out i use Clipt. It’s a bit clunky but it’s free, it has an iOS app and then it’s a plugin for Chrome or whatever browser you use. And I guess it has a mac app, but at home I use AirDrop, duh. It works. Not handsomely, but it works.
Linux plays nicely with either my Android or my iPhones. I don't dilly-dally with WiFi, though. I just plug 'em in, and Linux "sees" them, and I can transfer files from iPhone or Android. It's easy to put pictures onto the phones in the same way. The Photos app on my Macs likes to store photos by renaming them and stuffing them into weird folders with weird names for no apparent reason. Once that started happening, I gave up. My Linux machines download my iPhone and Android photos with a lot of song and dance, because I take too many photos to waste time "getting to know" Apple's odd photo filing system.
Lots of people do that. Windows 11 might be a bit better because it has Phone Link so you can get your phone notifications, messages and so on on your desktop.
Drew please go back to your iPhone 13 pro max and tell me how good it is, I really am not able to stand Android this much, at first I thought it was not that bad but this is getting out of hand. I really really want to see how much better things feel to you with an iPhone back as your main device, we already have like 500billion TH-cam channels dedicated to praising Android and how its the best thing ever, I don't think we need more
I have the opposite problem. I have to try to get my iPhone to play nice with my windows laptop (ugh) Also, is Frankie about to have a crisis when he realizes that Android isn’t the dumpster fire he thought it was?
I feel like he’s gone from the Apple sheep I knew in the attic to just complaining about the things apple does and even now has gone as far as even explaining how to make an android phone work with your Mac. Haha.
AirDrop? Edge Drop. Don't say the word "eww" to Microsoft yet. As fast as Google Chrome on Macs but not as bad in power management. iMessage? Macs have it. Never tied it to a phone number before, only my Apple ID. Continuity Camera? Iriun Webcam/just buy a professional webcam if you want the absolute bestvideo quality.

KDE Connect is the best AirDrop alternative imo and it even gives you Universal Clipboard
Unfortunately, last I checked, there is no official apple silicon version

You should do a video that’s the opposite of this, how to get an iPhone to play nicely with a PC, especially as a lifelong Windows user myself
“BlueBubble” is my essential app for doing iMessage on my Pixel
AirDrop: KDE Connect

Start with pixel bro, you won't regret it!
If you want to start cheap, pixel 7a and 6a are good options to look at.

IIRC, Messages on Web came out around the time of the Pixel 3.
