    I thought about something a bit ago. What if the screen was powered when you plug the cartridge in to a console, and it displays the box art of the game rom you were playing? So if you had a top loading emulator, for example, you could play off the sd and it would show the box art on the cartridge. That would be cool as hell.

    The LCD Label cart thing would be an awesome add on for like a Retro Pi or some other system, where you load a game and the picture shows up on the cart or like for the menu.. Probably impractical and stuff but it would be fun :)

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Others have mentioned that to me before, I was thinking you could have a RetroPie setup on another device, and have this cartridge display the game you are playing almost like a live marquee display. :D

    • @thebackstabgaming4375
      @thebackstabgaming4375 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What if the cartridge were permanently attached to the console, and it already had the game built in? Couldn't you program the LCD to pull certain images depending on the game that is loaded? That'd be pretty sweet.

  • @CommodoreFan64
    @CommodoreFan64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    seems easy enough to do as I have a couple of old digital photo frames that might work, and you can get NES cart shells off eBay, or Aliexpress I'm sure.

  • @brevin630
    @brevin630 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would really like to see something like that, but programmed with EverDrive functionality, and whatever game you selected to play, it pulls the data from it and displays the game you are playing's box art.

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be dope

  • @thepuzzlemaster64
    @thepuzzlemaster64 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could be a cool thing if it had a touch screen, and would work like a flash cart (Swiping left or right to pick a game, and sticking it in the console to play it).
    Maybe in the near future the screen could be folded so it would cover the entire label space.

  • @Christophersanchez1326

    Had this idea years ago. Nice to have it realiswd

  • @robinbanks7615
    @robinbanks7615 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have this but with a Raspberry Pie Zero inside. So it has the label screen with the ability to plug into HDMI and play games via Emulation Station. Plus the coolest part is when you are in the menus it cycles through labels until you pick a game. Then when the game boots the label changes to the games cart artwork while you are playing. DNA Dimensions is fuckin’ rad! Sorry but it just is. I got this for my best friend for X-mas this year and I think he’s going to be absolutely geeked. I want to by one for myself!

  • @insomnimatics
    @insomnimatics 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's really neat. I do have some suggestions about it, though.
    Just opinions on the design: It would be nice for the base to have an outer rim for the cartridge as well. I'd be worried about the cartridge board cracking or snapping if it were to fall or get knocked over.
    It would also be neat to see the base supply the power to that cartridge instead of a cable coming out of the back of the cartridge. That would probably be a fire hazard though, considering it's a wooden base. I'm sure they could figure out a way to implement that, though.

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The base is pretty stable actually, unless you were to bump it. I had some ideas with a base with LED lights in it. When I have free time to come up with something I'll see what happens. :) Thanks

  • @redsyrup1138
    @redsyrup1138 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm definitely buying one when they make Version 2/3 that has the LCD flush with the cartridge case and transitions for the labels. Brilliant concept!

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That won't happen because all of the screens available, the image doesn't go edge to edge, there is a black border on the screens physical hardware, so there would be no way to make it flush sadly.

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A buddy of mine is doing a cartridge build with a Pi3 inside, check him out on Facebook AkumaMods (He's going to offer them for sale soon)

    • @enriquepinero707
      @enriquepinero707 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will the cart have a LCD screen and gamebuttons on it? I saw that he has a cart with a raspberry pi zero built in, which looks pretty cool and at a great price. Does he do Gameboy pi3 mods?

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enrique Pinero we talked about adding a screen but it's ts probably not going to fit because the Pi3 has been slimmed down to fit into the NES cart. As far as I know nobody else is doing a Pi3 inside an NES cartridge. If you are interested in custom gaming handhelds Renegade Labs on Facebook builds some nice Gameboy handhelds.

    Woah! Do they make a SNES version? That would be freaking sweet!
    Now I know what to do for a Pi Zero project, and maybe keep it connected to WiFi so I can just tell it what game label to show on command. Maybe even do a full retropie install on it, but with a custom theme or even just add a screensaver for the labels.

      Sam .P yes, it just slideshows through the game label art.

    Does this only work on the NES Top Loader so you can plug the cartridge in?

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It just displays game label images, as a slideshow. You sit it on the wood carved stand on your desk or a shelf.

      Oh well could I display it on my NES Top Loader instead?

    • @DesignedDNA
      @DesignedDNA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! That would be very cool, someone else mentioned that to me before. I don't have a top loader though, just a regular NES. I do have an awesome video of the NES LCD Cart in an original NES Cart Sleeve, I need to post it to my instagram. It's kinda cool looking!

      Nes games are physically small enough for something like that to be possible... Hmm
