I'm late to the party, as always ! but had to comment, as I have watched quite a few of these videos today, but yours is by far the most simple, achievable method and explanation, of how you did it. thank you for helping me believe I can actually do this, to my old floorboards.
Thanks Rob! This is a fabulous little video. I really appreciated your attention to detail but also you don't go over the top with preparation so if feels as though I will be able to do the job. Awesome!
I normally would not paint my hardwoods but cats kinda destroyed the floors in the dinning room so paint is really the only thing to do. White is what I want to do and I love the way this white floor has turned out.
Great job getting ready to do the same wth my house that's 100 plus yrs old... and it a bedroom floor needs a desperate face lift. Thanks for sharing! Beautiful job!
looks beautiful thank you for the video. How would you do that with raw wood in the kitchen to make the kitchen waterproof? I basically took white birch, plywood and ripped planks face nailed it down and I’m thinking about painting, but I do have slight gaps in between the boards, so would need to waterproof everything for the kitchen and any suggestion? Thank you? By the way, I do like the look of the raw bitch Wood, but I’m having a hard time finding a wood filler to match it.
I have done the same in one of my rooms. I used Feast Watson Japan Black and it looks amazing. I had some people telling me not to paint beautiful hardwood flooring but once they saw the results they were impressed. Bold, and a great feature.
Did same with an old 1980's red golden hardwood floor using Rustoleum Protective Enamel. This product is super durable, shiny. Since redoing floor they now have a line of floor paint/enamels
personally if the money is there I would use aluminium wood primer being a hardwood and all those knots then 2 coats of oil floor paint well 3 if the finish is white with the grey primer
Hello Rob, I have been watching and enjoying your videos. I wonder if you could please kindly recommend the best varnish to use on a softwood floor. I was going to go for a Ronseal one but it did not get good reviews to say the least. If you can offer any advice I would be very grateful. Kind regardsJohn
How much do you charge? Tried painting my own floorboards white but ended up smudging everything and then tried to use a heat gun to get rid of the smudges and that didn’t end well. So if you could do my floor please let me know
I was considering painting the floor with a less expensive paint to sand over. Then finishing off with “ farrow and Ball” paint. Is this a good idea in your opinion.
Hi there just got to your channel , the best explanation on the matter so far , and thats why Im throwing this question , How can I make a dark parquet floor go to a lighter color (pine) and still look natural ; is It possible?
I was thinking of doing this with my floor in the lounge and hallway is there a special paint u can buy that's hard wearing the hallway will have lost of the traffic and if shoes are worn in have heard the paint comes of very quick Or can you use clear varish and put on top ?
Rob - i have a very dark Edwardian times wooden floor i wish to vanish/paint in grey - blue colour. Its a small bit in front of a fire place all other space is covered in carpet/ I sanded that wooden bit but this and tried small taster pot on some small aria but i can see that dark mahogany old wood comes through this new colour - what am doing wrong? or i will need two coats of paint on ?
анни елниф I used a coat of emulsion paint first, because it lifts the grain..Then quick drying Satinwood to finish..a lovely job and easily done with a roller on a pole..
Hi. What primer do you suggest before adding the floor paint? I was told that I need to uses an oil based primer before I add the paint. do I need to add a clear top coat once I've finished?
Hey Rob! Thanks for the informative video. I'll be painting my floors soon. Will it be possible to paint over laminated tongue and groove floors? I'm also going for white but a high gloss white
runkfish what’s not suitable is wood rot floors. To determine if they are rotten check by scraping wood with a fairly sharp tool, fr a big Phillips screwdriver to a paint scraper , or anything similar . Scrape unpainted unvarnished wood. When scraping if you gather pieces or little mushy pieces of wood on scraper , your floor is rotten and can’t be painted or stained . It wouldn’t work and your time wasted . I have been told by contractor brother that hopefully 2x4’s or 3x6’s (support beams) under floor are usually strong so you can remove any bulges and lay down any good plywood , proceeding from here lay any floor you want. This is true even if you want the video’s look, by just painting plywood( filling I’m joining cracks with plastic wood etc . This look is great for use onfinished basement floor or any room where you want a nicer class of the rustic floor. A chic or worn clean rug in the centre adds more dimension .
Excellent video, detail etc, well explained. The sheen the floor has at finish, is this due entirely to paint used or was there another product added? i.e. lacquer
I am moving into a house with no carpet so I'm wanting to paint the floor boards white. I decided not to use a sander because I want to go for a more rustic look.
This is ridiculous, how can you or why would you want to cover up woods natural beauty. The wood grains are so beautiful and unique like fingerprints. No two planks are alike.
I personally do not like wood floors or stairs...of I wanted that I would live in a tree. This is just a way of making your home more you adding that special touch. If you want wood floors with grains on it so you can get splinters, go ahead... ME on the other hand prefer to be warm and cozy with a rustic feel with a vintage carpeted staircase and hardwood floors painted with a huge placement rug... oh and I want my wood walls painted too! Do YOU and stop trying to get others to follow your lead. If you like your floors wood then you keep them that way. Now BYE!
DJ Barakas I'm selling my home. I do not have thousands of dollars to spend on sanding when I'm already spending a great deal of money on the home to fix it up. That's a huge reason people do it.

Very nice Still afra😮d to attempt this myself
Great job getting ready to do the same wth my house that's 100 plus yrs old... and it a bedroom floor needs a desperate face lift. Thanks for sharing! Beautiful job!
I've watched a few videos on this topic and this was by far the best. Thanks.
Ever ever thought of painting the floor White.. wow, looks so pretty.
Hi, great video. Can you tell me what the sanding pole thing is called if I was to ask for one please?
I've just done this and I'm very happy with the finish, cheap way to lift a room, very satisfying
looks beautiful thank you for the video. How would you do that with raw wood in the kitchen to make the kitchen waterproof? Wow looks amazing
Brilliant video
Great video!!
Can I use any paint color for my wood floorboards?
Thank u I took my carpet off my hardwood floor and I just want to paint it black this is awsom
I have done the same in one of my rooms. I used Feast Watson Japan Black and it looks amazing. I had some people telling me not to paint beautiful hardwood flooring but once they saw the results they were impressed. Bold, and a great feature.
How did the floor come out? Did you do much sanding?
is it a good or bad idea to put a coat over an old coat of paint?
Did same with an old 1980's red golden hardwood floor using Rustoleum Protective Enamel. This product is super durable, shiny. Since redoing floor they now have a line of floor paint/enamels
Thank u. Dis is the only video showing how to paint something made of wood.
omg I love you. Thank you for this video.
This is such a well made video. You are very talented 👏
Should I use a primer first? And what should the paint be in terms of gloss? They always ask at the hardware store? High gloss, semi, flat?
Looks amazing can you do on laminate or do you have any advice for laminate flooring ? 😊
I'm going to take your advice and instruction but paint my dark wood flooring the color black. What paint brand and type do you recommend? Thank you.
Latex primer good on wood floors?
I wondered what your reasoning was for not putting on a layer or two of shellac?
Thanks, just what I needed.
personally if the money is there I would use aluminium wood primer being a hardwood and all those knots then 2 coats of oil floor paint well 3 if the finish is white with the grey primer
Hello

You missed a staple. Its right next to the paint can. Also, need to fill the gaps between the floor and the the trim. 🙂
After you paint the floor...do you put something on top to make it shine? How many coats?
You don’t need primer for this? Just sand it and paint ?
I was considering painting the floor with a less expensive paint to sand over. Then finishing off with “ farrow and Ball” paint. Is this a good idea in your opinion.
Nothing gets rid of the beauty of a wood floor like paint
wow looks amazing hi i wanted to ask my brown laminate flooring i want to change to gray colour how can i do that plz.
Remove the brown flooring and replace it with grey.
I’m already happy because it’s how my floors looks 😅
Hi there just got to your channel , the best explanation on the matter so far , and thats why Im throwing this question , How can I make a dark parquet floor go to a lighter color (pine) and still look natural ; is It possible?
what paint do you recommend and I can put prime oil and a layer of water paint?
after I paint my living room floor white. could I use polyurethane for a deep shine & concealer?
You could but make sure it's a water based paint. An oil based paint will make the White a bit orange.
+Rob Gardner ......thanks, I didn't think of that
I was thinking of doing this with my floor in the lounge and hallway is there a special paint u can buy that's hard wearing the hallway will have lost of the traffic and if shoes are worn in have heard the paint comes of very quick
Or can you use clear varish and put on top ?
the bedec is one of the easiest toughest floor paints to use or you can use a two pack floor paint or dulux trade diamond glaze varnish or both
Love the video thanks Rob! If my floors are a low gloss varnish/sealer already, do i need to sand any more than you have in the video? thanks!
Needed this, i shall be attempting this, hopefully doesn't end up looking like a massacre.
How did it turn out?
Thx for the video
What do you mean by suitable for painting?
How much was the paint? did the 1 tin cover the room? thanks

should have done clear epoxy over the sanded floor. that white is going to show every scuff and mark.
whats the rough sort of price for this job if i wanted to get you to do it. 13ft x 13ft square room

very nice there rob
Thank you.
Just show me how you sanded the floors to get them to look the way they did just before you painted them.
Hi just wanted to know where are you based
Did you use any knot sealer before painting. The tin I have (Ronseal diamond floor paint) says you should do this.
Noice
Very helpful
nice
Thank you 😊
Thanks!
Did I see an Orb @ 0:27?

DJ Barakas Totally agree with you
He explained the floor boards were too thin to sand and refinish.
DJ Barakas, we should all think the same because you don't like it, if that was the case the entire world should be blue.
I personally do not like wood floors or stairs...of I wanted that I would live in a tree. This is just a way of making your home more you adding that special touch. Thanks so much
Just what I wanted to know.
If you want to know how to make it yourself, just look for woodprix instructions.
That won't last at all, sorry
I made it by myself thanks to woodprix plans. I think it's the best way to learn how to build.
Stepping on non-stop toxic all day long all up in your pores.

Hey
This makes me cringe . Same as people who paint bricks or rock.
You ruined the floor by painting it
