I LOVE the way you did this!! I know you said it was old but I had never seen it. I feel like we’re the only ones using DIY paint to create faux “plank” wood floors and I loved seeing the differences and similarities of our finishes!! DIY or die girl 👊🏼💪🏼💪🏼 right? 😊
Thank you so much my friend!! There are soooooo many things you can do with that paint that people don't realize! It was so much cheaper to do this paint finish than to put old farm planks down!
OMG I wish I could just talk to you on the phone I’m just Leksich and reading this is really a challenge but honest to God you have literally done exactly what my heart wants… You did a beautiful job
Using advantec works well. Sealed hard. We did this 15 years ago. Still looks good. If you have lots of floor to cover, it’s great. This look gorgeous, though. May redo ours this way. Thank you! ❤
Thank you for watching! I have never heard of Advantac! I am getting ready to do another room of subfloors, and a video to go with it. This one will be a little different. Hope you will watch!
When you used the Marine Sealer 8 years ago, was it oil or water-based? It is now water-based, and I have a sense that the one that you used 8 years ago is so durable because it was likely oil-based at that time. Am I correct in this assumption? Also, did you fill the gaps all around where the 4' x 8' sheets of subfloor meet one another? If so, did you use wood filler, caulking or something else? Thanks, so much! 🙂
The Marine Sealer was water based. I am in California and oil based paints have been outlawed here for a long time now. I used 3/4” round to fill the gap between the wall and the floor.
Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I didn't mean the gap around the perimeter when the flooring meets the walls and the vanity. I was referring to the ends and sides where the plywood sheets meet. I am just wondering how I would fill those seams...wood filler, caulking or drywall compound, I am assuming? 🙂@@Redouxinteriors
Hi Linda, I did a step-by-step guide at my blog, with a list of things I used. I used a Paint Guide, like you would to do baseboards and a pencil to get the semi straight lines, then left a thin line area without glaze to get that look of the line. Explained more in my blog post, hope you will check it out and thanks for watching :) redouxinteriors.com/2022/11/paint-a-subfloor-to-look-like-farm-planks/
Hello, when you use this marine sealant, have you had any food spills? It’s so called expert of it told me that food and liquids would go right through the sealant onto my Clay paint. Not Water, but colored drinks fruit juice food. Stopping me from going for it. But experience can be a great helper. So I thought I would ask yours.
Sorry for the delayed response, just seeing this. I have had all kinds of spills in this. That makes no sense that food would go through it. It’s a marine grade sealant, meaning it’s the toughest sealer you can buy. I only use DIY Paint and used that on this floor. Never had anything penetrate that sealant. Hope this helps!
This is so FAKE!!! Can't believe that people are actually falling for that. The final result is some premium hardwood/vinyl planks. Not saying it's not possible to do, but this video doesn't really show the whole process, just trying to sell products by lying.
I invite you to come check out my blog post as well where I share pics of the process. Thanks for your comment, I assure you this is not vinyl and the paint has held up. Perhaps spend your time commenting elsewhere
@@Redouxinteriors I watched your blog web page for this video and there are no additional pictures /videos that support your claims. I will be happy to be wrong by seeing step by step photos or a video showing how to achieve such results as this is exactly what I was looking to find in my TH-cam search. For what you showed in this video I stand by my claim.

This is one of the best floor makeovers I have seen.
Wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
It is gorgeous and still looks good.
Bravo, Karen! They look great…and 8 years later!! 😮
Thanks so much Canice! I truly can't believe they still look so good! They get abused on the daily!

Thank you so much for watching!
Looks wonderful!
Thank you so much!
I've got ugly osb walls in one part of my cabin. This is a great solution!
Thank you so much! I am about to do this project again in another bedroom
I love this idea since I can not afford new flooring. My question to you is “did you add polyurethane to the floor?
Thank you! And yes, the top coat I used is a Marine Clear coat, listed in the post
It looks awesome
Thanks so much!
So how did you do the lines for the fake board look?
Hi, I used a baseboard guide and did glaze at each line to mimic the look of a board
Wow smart lady!
Thanks so much! It still looks amazing!
Really nice!
Thank you so much!

can you do this on reg plywood
Absolutely! And it would be a lot easier than OSB board because you don’t have to spend so much time smoothing out the surface
The marine sealer resists pet urine?
It’s water resistant so you can probably wipe that up with no problem.
