@@ReptilianLepton just listen to me dude.your thoughts are gonna change. I saw Hop at a grocery store in Los Angeles 3 months ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Apparently the Aero BCGs are restocked now, thanks to your video. Shame on Aero that it took this long, amidst you putting then on blast with a totally believable conspiracy theory (I personally thought they were trying to phase this thing out entirely thanks to its problematic launch / mass returns). Excellent work, Hop!
I ended up buying one from some scalper on GB. Not really, they were out of stock everywhere and he was selling a couple for 170... about 30 dollars high, but I was happy to pay it to get the correct BCG for the correct gun.
Sad because most if not all the issues were with the barrel feed ramp which is why there is now the enhanced feed ramp offered by ballistic advantage which runs flawless btw. The only other issue I ever found was the ejector screws came lose. I cleaned them and the hole and used blue loctite, never had another issue after that. She runs better than my boys vector. He looks at my ar9 with envy now lol. Also his vector broke the bolt tabs that the bolt rides on! One over pressured reloaded 9mm destroyed the bolt. Had to get a new one, what a POS.
@slickdaddy3241 that's not scalping... thats 15 dollars high per bcg, which is perfectly reasonable for an unobtainable product. Very far from scalping. Is it scalping to sell a 1993 rare Pokémon stuffed animal for 1000 bucks? No. It's supply and demand.
I changed out the Aero buffer for a Macon armory dead blow buffer and changed to a carbine buffer spring. Phenomenal change in recoil impulse. It also solves the bolt bounce issue that could’ve caused a out of battery detonation.
I also changed to a carbine spring, with the 308 spring the scopes and rail covers where shaking loose, and I guess the holosun on it would have died had I not changed the spring. I have a Quarter Circle 10 adjustable buffer with weights. Very little recoil after that change. The original buffer is horrible.
Macon is the name I couldn't remember in my comment! Same change here and had them do my barrel. I run it suppressed now and there may as well be no recoil with the suppressor damping the recoil jump. No suppressor I still find it very jumpy like a pistol compared to a smooth AR-15
Hop, I swear you’re a T-800 with humor and intelligence performance chips installed, and you’re programmed to give us some of the best gun content on this platform If it helps at all, I get the best results from KAK, it’s fantastic if you want the absolute best value for your money
I purchased the 9mm BCG a little over a year ago from Aero Precision. I did have a problem at first finding them in stock. What I found was that if you request an “in stock” notification you will not receive one for one to two days after they are in stock. By then they are sold out. I have no idea why that is but that is what I found. I learned this once I started checking their website multiple times a day. That’s how I found it in stock and ordered it immediately. I never received the notification until the next day. By that time they were indeed sold out.
Perfect functioning AR9 is Foxtrot Mike. Upper/lower bought separate for around $600. Functions both suppressed and unsuppressed. Running a YHM R9 with tri lug mount. Also, FM fixed the breaking bolt catch issue by making it 1.3mm thicker than Mil spec.
I can vouch for this. I bought the Foxtrot Mike upper/lower from Primary arms about 18 months ago and it has worked perfectly from the first trigger pull. I got the 3" upper and put a SBA3 and a Sylvan Arms folding adapter. Also replaced the trigger with a CMC 3lb AR9 trigger. It is the funnest gun I own and everyone who sees it wants one. It is a completely drama-free AR, tons of fun, and cheap. With the brace and trigger I'm into it about $700.
Love my epc9. Built it a year ago and all oem parts were available at time. Used a maxim pew brace and shortened buffer tube with proprietary jp buffer. Aero bolt, small parts kit, upper, lower, and barrel. ALG trigger and battle arms development safety.
I put a Maxim on mine as well. Love how short it collapses compared to the SB equivalent, and I think the proprietary buffer does a much better job than the Aero EPC9 specific buffer. 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Hop, about the R9: I’m successfully running mine on my FM9 which came with a trilug. It’s the same story, barrel threads are slightly inside the handguard. With the trilug mount & the YHM trilug adapter I can run mine no problem with plenty of clearance to take it off/put it on. Hope this helps.
I built an EPC9 last year, great gun. I'm running an integrally suppressed build myself. The recoil was annoying for sure, it was just so jumpy with that heavy bolt and buffer slapping around in there. But my local shop had some Armaspec SMB-9 6.8oz captured spring buffers and I took a chance on it. Best upgrade so far. It feels just like a smooth 5.56 now. You remove the weights from your bolt upon installation and it really cuts down on reciprocating mass. I want to say it also lightened the gun, but I haven't weighed it. Might be worth looking into for $59.99!
just got the same buffer setup, can't wait to give it a whirl in my latest AR9 build. I sorta get the feeling Hop is like me (and a lot of us) in this regard. We KNOW the AR9 shouldn't exist and it sucks, but it's fun to try and make it work like we all know it could!
My AR9 uses the modified AR15 mags, which have built-in feed ramps. So the feed cone in the barrel becomes redundant. So far, it has run just about everything I feed it... hollowpoints, round-nose FMJ, flat-nose FMJ, 115grn, 124grn, 147grn. The one downside is the ejector built into the magazine. When you drop the mag, you lose the ejector. So you need to have an empty mag handy, to stuff in and clear the chamber.
Hop, you really gotta check out the extar ep9. Original design, but it uses AR controls and Glock magazines. It's super entry level at sub 500 bucks, but mine kicks ass and runs nonstop. They swapped out the AR BCG for a 17 oz blowback bolt, and preserved the AR buffer system to dampen recoil. My friend has a CMMG banshee, and don't get me wrong. The banshee is way more high end. But when we shoot them side by side, the extar is absolutely within the same context, and performs very well. I honestly believe that if they made a premium version with higher grade materials and tighter fit, extar would absolutely crush the market. It's impressive.
I have one and I agree. It's a kickass gun. I'm disappointed you can't really use aftermarket triggers (or so extar says), and the fact that simple upgrades are expensive and limited (adapter for a milspec buffer tube and an upgraded handguard is upwards of $350) but overall the value is tremendous. Very light. Very fun to shoot. Accurate af. The only way it fails is if it's due to a magazine related failure. I want to put a suppressor compatible muzzle brake on mine.
I have an EPC9 bolt and my local store has them in stock I could go buy one right now. Edit: Having watched the video now... Works great suppressed if you aren't using direct thread. Most compatible brakes etc will get the teeth out past the handguard to function. I have mine in an Aero Enhanced handguard so suppressors will fit under as well if that is desirable to you. I had to switch springs to an AR carbine spring for subs to function, the 308 spring caused failure to feeds on subs. I keep the 308 spring in the bag for supers though. I also had a gen1 barrel design and ended up paying ~115$ with shipping to have the barrel re-machined to what looks identical to the new barrel design and a non-aero buffer. I originally went 100% aero for the build and immediately regretted it with the gen1 barrel not being able to feed literally anything I put in it round nose or not. Mine did eat a Vortex Sparc Solar after about 400 mostly subsonic rounds.
I bought a cmmg mk9 rdb, largely for the aesthetics and the allure of suppressor host. At 6.5k, I’ve had to change out the ejector spring 5 times, have gone through 2 extractors, and now have a crack on the bolt where the cam pin goes through. Shooting suppressed with a YHM R9, using the heaviest bolt weight, and carbine spring & buffer that cmmg reccomends. Shoots well, but now that I travel for work I wish I had gotten a Glock fed lower.
I built my EPC with all OEM parts, including the BCG and gen 1 barrel. It definitely would not feed JHP's and the firing pin broke after about 200 rounds. I replaced it with an aftermarket titanium firing pin and also contacted Aero to see if they would replace my gen 1 barrel with the gen 2. They did.
The feed ramps in the the barrels were the issue. Now ballistic advantage has the enhanced feed ramp. I sent my original barrel back to optics planet and get the new enhanced and have not had a single issue since and have fired at least 500-700 rounds since then.
I bought a extar ep9 3 years ago. 1 malfunction with 500+ rounds and I think it was Steelcase. Extar had 10mm and 45 options but never did more than prototypes. With AR or AK rifles it's mostly a range gun but it's fun to shoot.
Still not sure why the extar is never mentioned in these videos. I don't have any personal experience but in the... ten? years they've been around I've only heard great things, especially with regards to reliability.
@@sluttybutt One of the things about the gun community is that anything considered a "low cost" option is immediately regarded as dogshit and not serious. Hop isn't terrible about this, but every gun forum is. In reality, often a low-cost option is FANTASTIC - for example, LaRue Triggers, Streamlight Protac lights, PSA anything, most Ruger things. Guys who think cost = quality get really uptight when something that cost half as much preforms twice as well, because they assume it makes them look foolish. There is a real attitude about "Hey, I spend $2,500 for this Noveske, I'm better than you." When your ego is based upon how much you paid for something, it provokes an emotional response when they see low cost items.
@@sluttybutt it's pretty awesome considering the price. If you want a basic 9mm ar9 that takes glock mags, that's lightweight and utterly reliable it's a great option
@@jo232409 Dude, you are not wrong, the ego of so many in this community/culture is pretty high. Also the guys that paid $2500 for their Noveske are the same ones that go on Crusades bashing others for buying stuff that isn't $2,500 but it performs just the same or better. When I bought my DPMS Oracle AR15 people were saying they are junk but I bought it and it performs really well! It groups sub-moa with 52gr bullets and those same people who told me it was junk suddenly went real quiet. People also get the asshole bug when they see other being able to afford guns that are $2500 or more as well. I love many different types of weapons and so the ego bullshit never bothered me.
Been running the CMMG 9mm upper with converted PMAGs, and that has been very reliable. Used hard in competition setting for 3 years, honestly never had any feeding or ejection issues, besides for a few bad primers due to really cheap ammo. Highly recommend
Came here to say this. He dismissed it way too quick up front. The CMMG RDB system is fantastic for reliability and mitigating the recoil compared to a blowback AR9. You can get a bolt/barrel combo for $300-350 and build out the rest using standard AR-15 components. Buying a complete Banshee from CMMG is overpriced.
I ordered an Aero EPC 9 upper and lower last year. I couldn't get a barrel or bolt from Aero at the time. I used a Foxtrot Mike barrel and bolt. I am very happy with mine.
CMMG RDB Bolt/barrel kit is $500 ish. It uses the modified P-mags but the ejector is AR-15 style. I was skeptical but my 5'' runs 100% and shoots very smooth.
@@markmichaels5835 I don't know about the Resolute upper. Mine uses an AR-15 style ejector it's built into the bolt. All the controls work as an AR-15. It takes the converted pmags
I didn't build one because of all the reason Hop stated for the last several years. Recently grabbed a Foxtrot Mike FM-9 10" side charger to avoid issues. Love it. First range trip it shot 6 types of JHP, 6dif FMJ plus flatnose 100%. So happy with it now I want a rear charge upper to match. But a frankenbuild is in my future.
I bought a Faxon barrel and bolt because the Ballistic Advantage had reviews that users talked about feeding issues regarding hollow points. In a shocking display, I still had feeding issues and the barrel/bolt went to Macon Armory for some modifications Side note: Had a bolt cstch from Aero Precision break running their spring and buffer, switched to a carbine spring and a buffer from Macon Armory. So far no issues.
I think you'd like the foxtrot mike fm9, in my experience, its been the most reliable, problem free blowback 9m ar I've dealt with out of 6 different ones I've built/bought to date, and its lrbho works every time which is a plus.
I just recently built a EPC-9 with an 8" barrel. It took me forever to find it but I was able to find a bolt carrier group from them new in the package and I bought it. Runs great but wow was it hard to find. I saw them being scalped on Gunbroker for twice the price so it seems to be a known thing
I put one of these together with the 8.3" barrel & "enhanced" m-lok rail and ended up buying a bolt from Faxon because I also could never find the Aero bolt lol. Also, I never knew how sketchy it sounds when you drop an AR9 bolt on an empty chamber. There's no way that bolt hammering into the barrel could do anything other than beat itself to death lol. Furthermore, I never had a gun that absolutely positively required a break in period like my EPC9 did. I have never used any other AR9 but yeah, can confirm everything you said.
I grabbed an EPC-9 BCG a few months ago as I was piecing together my build and now I'm seeing everyone is struggling to get one. I ended up swapping it for an American Resistance BCG so I can use my 5.5" build with a LAW Folder.
Hop, you are 100% correct on trying to hit a goal weight for reciprocating mass in an AR9. That goal should be around 22-24oz atleast. It can cycle up to 37oz and 27oz is the sweet spot for a soft recoil and reliability. I recommend a dead blow style buffer like the Midway USA AR Stoner 11oz heavy 9mm buffer. My EPC 9 runs great with this buffer. Check out the work and reasesrch preformed by a TH-camr “Blowback9”
PA SLX Gemini vs Swampfox Blade would be interesting comparison for AR-9 build, also a look at the extar ep9 which seems like it is reliable with hollow points at a much lower cost. Liked that single point sling, hope next AR-9 video you go into how you set it up!
Built mine, didn't have an issue finding parts, with an AERO BCG. Last part aero buffer kit comes in today 7/16. But did have to source BCG at Brownells.
I'm just gonna mention, CMMG has a Colt SMG lower for their radial delay, so one can have a radial delay without going to Glock or Sig magazines. You need to use the CMMG lower, barrel, and bolt carrier ground. You can use your own standard upper, stocks (regular 5.56 buffers/springs), and triggers. It's the only gun I regret selling, and I will be building one in the future on the Colt SMG lower (I had the Glock lower, the only unreliability I had was a +2 extension on a 24 round magazine _without_ a longer spring, because I was both lazy and curious, which means _I_ was the cause entirely)
I finally got an AERO BCG for my EPC November of last year. It worked reasonably well, with only a few failures to feed per hundred rounds…..with FMJs. With JHPs the thing barely cycled at all. I got a Macon Armory Guaranteed Feed barrel, heavier buffer (KAK Industry) and buffer spring (Damage Industries) and it now runs quite well.
If your heart is set on an ar9, save up and go for a CMMG banshee. It's worth the extra. I was able to dial in a custom 90 grain load for an 8" barrel 9mm banshee that cycles reliably and has the recoil impulse of a 10/22. Tons of fun!
Thank God you updated this Hop, iv been waiting for bcg to come back in stock for 8 months now. Now I know what to get so this pile of parts can be put together. HOP FOR PRESIDENT
Great video as always thank you. I absolutely agree with your comments about Aero! I built 2 - LR308 pattern guns. One 308 Win. and one 7mm08 Remmington. All of the parts for one were Aero -Enhanced upper/ complete lower set with Magpul PRS stock, adjustable gas block, bolt carrier, charging handle, etc. The only part NOT Aero was the barrel (Wilson combat stainless steel) The other build was with Wilson combat barrel/bolt carrier/adjustable gas block but all the same Aero parts. I assembled both firearms and test fired with multiple different loads, and both had cycling issues mostly short stroking / failure to eject /etc. No matter what I did with swapping out the Wilson combat parts with the Aero parts -still the same issues even with both gas blocks fully open (the gas blocks are aligned and confirmed with a bore scope). I swapped out the recoil spring for an AR15 rifle length spring I had on hand and both functions properly with the correct ejection pattern. This is still with the gas blocks fully open. I contacted Aero about the issues and told them what the issue was - the LR 308 springs they supplied are too stout for this application. I asked them if they could send me 2 AR15 rifle length springs and I would send them back the ones that did not work. I was told that since I used parts that were "NOT" Aero there was nothing they could do for me. I told them that NO WERE on their site does it say that you can "ONLY" use Aero parts to build an AR platform. He was snide and told me that is not what he is saying. After 2 months of back and forth he sent me 2 of the exact same springs I already had that didn't work and now I have 4 of them. I looked online and found multiple people having the same cycling issues with Aero's LR platform. I purchased 2 AR15 rifle length springs and installed them and now both are working great with many rounds down range. As a side note - when I assemble any platform, I grease the crap out of them, and hand cycle the action at least a couple of hundred times, then fully clean and lube before test firing. I do like the quality and affordability from Aero and have purchased more items from them, but you may have to do some troubleshooting first before function!
I've had really good results with the Foxtrot Mike FM9 "platform" in my AR9 builds. They make a good BCG, and they make a very nice LRBHO lower. So far I've had the best/most comfortable setup using a Rise PCC 140 drop-in trigger and Ballistic Advantage barrels (not the "EPC" ones to my knowledge) - but there's a catch. Only some magazines mate properly with the lower so that they don't tilt the wrong way and cause feed issues. Naturally I get the best results from factory glock or knock-offs like the Korean or the P80 ones, but also the 27 round Pmags seem to fit snugly enough to not rock north/south and cause feed issues, even with (most) hollow points. Steer clear of really thin bodied mags like Amend2. Obviously it helps to have the roundest and/or pointiest bullet shape, so some rounds work better than others, but as long as you put a decent charging handle on them any feed issues are pretty easily cleared.
Hey Hop... I can vouch for the Odin Works bolt carrier group. Aside from the bolt, mine is pretty much the same as yours but, with the 11" barrel. A bit over 1,000 rounds to-date and not one malfunction.
The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 was by far one of the best little AR-9s I’ve used. Not a single issue out of it ever, and it’s shockingly cheap at around $700.
@@adamg574 all stock. My father in law asked to buy the gun from me every time we hung out, and eventually I sold it to him, but he still has it, and it still runs flawlessly. I want to pick up another one, but I just really don’t need another 9mm PDW right now.
Great vid. Great information as always. You hit right on the nail. I finished my build last month. I took it to the range once, it worked but the LRBHO wouldn’t work. Idk if it’s because the BCG is from another company or the folding adapter and issue with the length. Something i need to work on. Also the mags need to be stuffed in the msg well when you rack the charging handle. Makes you think twice when your charging it.
I would love to hear your take on Steyr's M9-A1/MF2 pistols, specifically the trapezoid sights, Nathan from TFBTV liked it, so that's two for two with Nate approved. It really is the glock 2.0, the one you don't need to mod (besides grip tape)
I wanted one of these back when they furst came out but heard nothing but bad things about them and I held off. Been wanting some kinda nicer 9mm like a B&T. I’ve gotta Stribog with a Scorpion mag lower and it’s ok. I do like AR controls a lot though so that’s always a plus. Good review man and thanks for always telling us straight up in the way we can understand and some comedy mixed in.
I did not find the same issue finding the EPC BCG. My local shop had one in stock. I didn't use the Aero barrel, trigger, buttstock, or handguard but everything else was Aero or part of an Aero kit.
Once again, with "the hoop's you jump through" for that 9mm PDW, I'm happy with my PSA AK-V. Wish you'd review one, EVEN IF you don't like it. Would STILL care for your thoughts. (Mag's are easy to acquire, & cheap, TOO) Better muzzle brake too. One other thing, Taccom3g has a different buffer to help with "bolt slam/bottom out. Also noticed first firing sequence, was sure sling'n the brass all over the place. (?)
Just an idea for more content, but you might want to try comparing a Keltec Sub 2000 in .40 S&W. I bought a used one on impulse a while back, which uses M&P mags, and it runs surprisingly well. The balistics out of the 16 inch barrel are also impressive.
I know im late to the party here but i love my s2k. Its in 9mm, i added an mcarbo mount to it. Ive got close to 3000 rounds through it and i still love it. Its an 18.6 canadian model, accurate and been super reliable
CMMG has all the pistol caliber carbines figured out pretty damn well. At any barrel length. Would love to see you review the 16" barrel Resolute in .45 as it really hasn't got much coverage online.
I don't know how long they stayed in stock but I had a back in stock notification set with Aero and was able to order TWO EPC-9 BCGs on December 2, and had them in hand on the 10th. Obviously YMMV.
I actually have an Aero EPC-9 BCG I got about a year ago. I also had Macon Armory update the buffer as well as mill the feed ramp for better feeding of subsonic hollow points. Runs awesome now
I have a Epc 9 with the enhanced upper using the 5.5” barrel with the enhanced 7.3” handguard for my omega 9k to fit under. Found my epc9 bcg at local gun store in Tacoma. 100% aero parts for that build. I have a 5.5” BA barrel and 4.8” atlas r one handguard. Using mil spec lower with stern defense adapter. To run a suppressor u needa run a pistol piston and fixed barrel spacer. That’s how I get can on that upper.
I bought a Freedom Ordinance FX-9 because it was at my local Rural King and it was cheap. I think I paid $500. Super accurate with any ammo and really reliable.
I built an EPC-9 last year and my local gun shop had an Aero bolt carrier group, so they do exist… I did have reliability issues, though, because apparently I got the early style barrel. I polished the feed “cone” and it works a lot better now.
Glock mags might be "better" than Colt SMG mags, but I'd still rather see the market move in the direction of the PSA AR-V and New Frontier Armory in going with scorpion mags. I also went with a 5.5" barrel when I built out my AR-V, although I opted to put a KVP modular linear comp and as MWI 8" SP handguard on it, which offers a comfortable amount of rail space to actually mount accessories and leave room for my hand. unfortunately, even with the folding buffer tube adapter it's still ended up a little too big to be properly a bag gun.
@@kylegrimm8808 they both suck, honestly. Colt SMG mags can have a lot of binding issues with rounds and the followers. There's a reason guns like the CZ scorpion and MP5 have curved magazine geometry.
@InvidiousIgnoramus colt smg mags don't suck. Colt and uzi mags have been used for over a half century with great reliability. Their lineage goes back into ww2. Curved mags are better, natural. But to claim glock style are better is like comparing a Krag Jorgensen magazine to a Thompson mag. There is no comparison.
@@kylegrimm8808 There very much is a comparison, which is because they are often used in the same platforms. I might not like Glock mags, but you can watch Hop's own video on his Colt SMG magazine woes if you think he's just being offhand about this.
@InvidiousIgnoramus I own both platforms. There is no comparison to the colt stick mag to the glock mag. The only reason everyone today is using glock mags is for marketing, 100%. They are the least reliable mag on the market for this platform.
Love the full EPC-9, not saying I have one, but I would imagine they are great. Quick tip for the spring installation. Use a razorblade to hold it in place and slide it in. Butter. Don't need springs flying all over the living room! :)
Or you can just get a Flux Raider that recoils half as much, weighs half as much, and is half the size, and is perfectly reliable. Sure, often needs a bit of tuning when used with a suppressor, but that’s easy with a different recoil spring.
Or the TP9. It may be more expensive, do very little better, and have a terrible trigger, but it takes 30 rounders, looks way cooler, and was in resident evil 4.
@@chrisclark6161 The TP9 is not a bad choice, but it has some major flaws, and in every evaluation I am aware of, the Raider has come out on top over it. I can’t say what SOF units use it, but I can tell you Sage Dynamics replaced his TP9 with the Raider after his test on it as his bag gun.
@Ben Griffith oh I'm aware of the tp9s shortcomings. I have a steyr (TMP) and b&t version. They're excellent in concept, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I also tend ti immediately disregard claims of SOF use for certain items because those claims are often stretching the "use" to its absolute limits. But the flux is an excellent little piece of kit. I'm quite fond of it personally, but it wasn't in any resident evil games. That's a mark against it.
@@chrisclark6161 Hahaha fair enough, that is awesome you have the Steyr version. And I agree, I don't put much weight on what certain groups use. The MP7 is perfect example of something that actually sucks but was used by tier one groups. That's actually why the tier one units contacted us.
I have a aero precision epc-9 with the 8" barrel. When I first shot it I was having issues with extracting spent cases. I found the gas key had both bolts loose. After retorquing the bolts it shot great for a couple of mags then failed to fire every other round. I disassembled and inspected the bolt carrier and found a round burr that had worked loose covering the firing pin hole inside the bolt. I removed the burr and reassembled, it's been functioning great for several hundred rounds now. Quality control with the bolts is an issue and probably why they are out of stock.
I built my EPC9 mid summer and I also used the BK Firearms bolt. I'm at 1300 rounds with no issues. I did have to tweak the LRBHO bar a little bit to prevent the bolt from locking back with one round left in the mag. No big deal. Gun has been 100% since then. EPC is very nice quality.
The BCGs are regularly available on Primary Arms. I hemmed and hawed for about 4 months before I made my mind up to build an EPC upper on a KP-9 lower.
Get a WOT and a 100 rd drum then get a really really thick gold chain around your neck and do a mock drive-by with some frens on some junk car with Coolio's GP as the soundtrack. Make the Perpetual Agony continue...
I got my EPC-9 upper and lower set on the third wave of its release. I got the barrel, handguard, drop in trigger assembly,BCG, buffer and buffer tube during Aero Precision’s second EPC-9 release wave. I got a buffer spring and takedown pins from Strike Industries. I put a Sig Romeo MSR on it and to be honest after about 300 rounds of a mixture of target and critical defense ammo the only problems I’ve had is mine won’t drop (without pulling it) Glock stick mags. I appreciate the video.
I built one with all Aero parts minus the barrel which was ballistics advantage (still Areo right). It refuses to fire hallow points which smashes the bullet into the case against the barrel without actually feeding into the ramp or chamber. Interestingly I had some 140+ grain bullets which had a flat tip which did the same. 115 grain fmj feeds and cycles fine. I'm not an AR guy, never had a practical reason for it, however my son and I where shooting indoor and the range rules did allow him to shoot .22 and 9mm in rifle format so my reason became evident. I'm overall dissatisfied with the performance of it but will keep it in the collection and am glad to have him exposed to the AR platform for education and safety. My Henry is still the coolest looking and being 44mag can actually be used for hunting. Great content and thank you!
PSA have an AR9 that's 100% built by them, I think it's called the gen 4 AR9 or something that uses Glock mags and is different than the other AR9 stuff they have, but you can buy it fully assembled and everything and even find it as a daily deal quite often I'd be *REALLY* interested in a review of that (Or the jackl as I really wanna see a review of a prison based AR that can be set for both 223/556 and 300blackout (from the same upper, unlike brownells that's like a grand or cheaper, and if built not only is it cheaper but it uses regular AR lowers) So for the more budget minded like me, I'd REALLY REALLY wanna see a review of either from a TH-camr I trust and respect review either of them... Also when someone who doesn't review 2A items often reviews an item they buy there's always that review paradox where they might be reviewing it with a better impression simply because they put *THEIR* money into it(not getting a review copy or one bought with subscribe star/Patreon/whatever supporters cash) and so will justify some of the issues with the item so they don't feel "stupid" for wasting their own cash on a firearm that really isn't good... Whereas I believe you could get either a copy of either from PSA directly and do a review (with a disclaimer/disclosure as you're clearly used to doing) or buy one with money from your supporters knowing it's for review (and that after you keep it if you like it, sell it if you don't, and there's no pressure about it as it's not your *only* AR9 or in case of the jackl it's not a firearm you have to keep as money is that tight... Just a random subscribers requests/hopes to see in a future video
Info for your channel.. Turners Outdoorsmen has EPC-9 BCGs. You have to ask them to search all stores and they will likely get you one. I just did. Faxon also makes them and a few others. I don’t know what parts were available 9mo ago but the aero parts can be found. My preference was the epc-10 but no parts. I did an extensive search. Cost at Turners was $165 plus tax.
I had an EPC-9 when they launched (so obviously a gen 1) and I had a Aero BCG in it. No matter what kind of ammo I used, the practically non-existent “feed ramp” would jam the bullets back into the casing. It also had terrible recoil even imo for a direct blow back 9mm ar, and then to top it all off I had a slight oob which broke the Magpul glock mag I was using at the time. Immediately traded it and some cash for a PTR-9C and I have no regrets whatsoever.
I have a palmetto state armory ar9. The first 100 or so rounds the thing almost found it’s way to the trash can but since has had 2800ish rounds with no more malfunctions since.
I have the same one you have- Aero EPC-9 5in barrel upper + Aero EPC-9 lower + AERO EPC-9 BCG. I’ve yet to assemble & break it in. I’ve heard of feeding/reliability issues, so I’m def looking forward to breaking it in. Plus, I heard their customer service is straight trash rn (due to understaffing). I think overall, great company & great products, but they’re having staffing issues and can’t meet their demand (based from what I’m hearing).
I waited almost 5 months. Finally I got an alert, went immediately to Aero’s site and successfully got one. It works as advertised. The problem I have with mine, and I’m not alone, it will reliably cycle hollow point. BTW, before installing the Aero EPC BCG I ran it with a Fail Zero.
My AR9 lives in my safe now that I have a collection of CAA MCK's for my various platforms. So no issues feeding ammo, already used to trigger, and they are just awesome. I am just waiting for the Rock57 platform.
I’ve got a completely Aero EPC9 (bolt too) with the exception of a Kyn-shot buffer instead of the standard. Completely tames the recoil. Makes it just as pleasant or more to shoot than any of my AR’s.
Did you get the short stroke version (which is longer) and what buffer spring did you go with. The guys at blitzkrieg who sell kynshot said JP enterprise is the best spring to go with for our EPC9s
@@julian-estrada I have the shortest barrel, and on the blitzkrieg website they recommend the red for that length, so I just ran with it. I’m pretty sure I could have even jumped one lighter. Not that it’s harsh, but I might try a blue soon to see if I can soften it even more coming back into battery. Red is perfectly reliable though.
I’ve got a “mutt” 9mm PCC that is very reliable and eats the steel case stuff. I’ve got a 10mm “mutt” that I’m still working out a few bugs but looks like the main problems are the aftermarket mags. I managed to get multiple shots off to bolt hold open with a Glock mag. I’ve a 8oz buffer on the 9mm. A 10oz and heavy buffer spring with the 10mm. They’re a hoot to shoot
I built a Frankenstein AP EPC with their upper/lower, Faxon 16" (really 14" with break), Alpha Shooting BCG, and CMC trigger. I had to reduce the dwell because it was just ramming the bullets against the cone and sinking them into the cases. I changed to a hydraulic buffer with reduced weight and reduced spring to slow things down. This allowed the next round to get in the correct position before the bolt came slamming back. Slow motion on the GoPro captured a few damning frames of the problem. Polished the feed cone just because and had to tune the follower on some mags so they work with the catch wire. Definitely not for a beginner, but once tuned it performs like a swiss watch. AR-9's make sense to me because several of the local ranges only allow pistol calibers.
BCG is currently in stock at Aero and mine will be here today! I imagine if reliability gets worse I'll have to blame my Faxon barrel... the quest for the best AR9 never stops.
I'm running at EPC 9 upper and lower, EPC bolt, the new BA barrel with the feed ramp cut. Still running the 308 spring with the EPC buffer. I'm going to try a carbine spring now and see how that runs, it's been flawless with the 308 spring but after the barrel re cut ramp came out I want to see if it will do just as well with the carbine.
I did a AERO upper and lower and then used a Dead Foot Arms MCS with the folding adapter. It’s functioned pretty much flawlessly for me and it comes with DFA’s proprietary BCG.
I definitely have debilitating astigmatisms in both eyes as well as a significant Cataract on my right eye from an injury. As such the SLX1X microprism from primary arms has been a godsend

I kinda wonder if the BS with Washington gunlaws is hindering them some how.
Heavy deadblows the way to go in PCCs.
I did the exact same thing after an oob detonation. So much better
Macon armory makes great stuff.

By that time they were indeed sold out.
straight to the point and no sugar coating. exactly what we need on reviews. thanks
They should make an AR40 that takes P94 mags, just for you.
Hope this helps.
i can second this runs like a champ other than the reman hollopoints i tried which it didn’t like but it’s run LITERALLY everything else.
I want a FM9, but I want to see it run through the ringer first. Looks solid though & I love what they're doing with the fm15
Man whats unique about your channel is you go into the details with good clear and quick explination. A true aficionado.
Might be worth looking into for $59.99!
im considering getting the JP enterprise SCS, hopefully it plays nice with mine!
Be careful tho because you are increasing bolt velocity and affecting timing
just got the same buffer setup, can't wait to give it a whirl in my latest AR9 build. I sorta get the feeling Hop is like me (and a lot of us) in this regard. We KNOW the AR9 shouldn't exist and it sucks, but it's fun to try and make it work like we all know it could!
Not sure why everyone says 9mm has more recoil than 5.56.
I have an fm9 from Foxtrot Mike and it feels like 22 mag
@@smokingcrab2290 shit dude, I threw the 30$ PSA ept in mine and it hasn't skipped a beat. Probably 500 rnds on that now
I have over 1,500rds through mine and love it. Mine is a Gen 1
Extar and PSA AR9 both have been very reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. Both are budget friendly also and come built
Nah. Had one. Felt like a toy.
I sold it after 3 weeks and bought an FM9 from Foxtrot Mike and it was only $50 more. Side charger
I have an EPC9 bolt and my local store has them in stock I could go buy one right now.
Edit:
Having watched the video now...
Foxtrot Mike master race! Love my FM9, no issues with hollows, steel, brass, anything!
I also have an extar ep9, little less than 1k rounds and no malfunctions. Recoils less than a friend's mostly aero AR9 build, and weighs nearly half.
I really wish Mean Arms would make mag inserts for the 20rnd Pmags.

First range trip it shot 6 types of JHP, 6dif FMJ plus flatnose 100%. So happy with it now I want a rear charge upper to match. But a frankenbuild is in my future.
Just picked up an 8.5" side charging FM-9, haven't been to the range yet. Thanks for the info..
I bought a Faxon barrel and bolt because the Ballistic Advantage had reviews that users talked about feeding issues regarding hollow points. In a shocking display, I still had feeding issues and the barrel/bolt went to Macon Armory for some modifications
Side note: Had a bolt cstch from Aero Precision break running their spring and buffer, switched to a carbine spring and a buffer from Macon Armory. So far no issues.
Thanks!
I think you'd like the foxtrot mike fm9, in my experience, its been the most reliable, problem free blowback 9m ar I've dealt with out of 6 different ones I've built/bought to date, and its lrbho works every time which is a plus.
my buddy successfully got an EPC 9 bcg about a year ago, but now that you mention it, i haven't seen anyone else get the bolt.
I just recently built a EPC-9 with an 8" barrel. It took me forever to find it but I was able to find a bolt carrier group from them new in the package and I bought it. Runs great but wow was it hard to find. I saw them being scalped on Gunbroker for twice the price so it seems to be a known thing
So Aero is pulling a "The Day Before" on everyone?
The real question is, how do you like that RM1?
I like the RM1, I would prefer the performance and switchology of a TLR1, but the rotating bezel system is very good for a stowed gun.
@Hoplopfheil makes sense. I needed an Inforce replacement so I'll give the RM1a shot.
I watched this the day it came out and I don’t really care that much about ar-9’s but i’m here again because Hop is pretty entertaining regardless.
I grabbed an EPC-9 BCG a few months ago as I was piecing together my build and now I'm seeing everyone is struggling to get one. I ended up swapping it for an American Resistance BCG so I can use my 5.5" build with a LAW Folder.
I want a video comparing a Ruger PC Charger with brace to your AR9 stuff.
"I'm still waiting on my YHR9; I don't think I'll ever get it at this point". I feel that in my soul.
GLOCK magazine springs are poor quality. I replaced all my GLOCK magazine springs with WOLFF springs.
Or you can just buy the CMMG BCG and barrel. Build them into the upper of your choice. I built a set into a 17 Designs folding lower receiver set. 👍
@@sarge12212 That would be a nice way to go as well!
Thank God you updated this Hop, iv been waiting for bcg to come back in stock for 8 months now. Now I know what to get so this pile of parts can be put together. HOP FOR PRESIDENT
I’ve thought about scooping up an extar ep9 cause they’re pretty cheap and from what I’ve seen they work pretty well. Great video as always
I ended up with this same set up Hop has in the video. Aero is sending me a Gen 2 barrel for free to replace my Gen 1 barrel
You mess around with buffer weights and springs or keep it stock?
Appreciate you and your work Hop.
Thank you.
For those interested, Stern Defense has a bolt carrier group designed to work with the Fostech Echo trigger and Law folder. I have one in NiB
@hop you should do a video with the extra ep9 comparing it to more expensive ar9 variants
CMMG has all the pistol caliber carbines figured out pretty damn well. At any barrel length.
Would love to see you review the 16" barrel Resolute in .45 as it really hasn't got much coverage online.
Absolutely. The Banshee is rock solid and runs without fail suppressed or in full noise mode. (9mm in my case)
@@OttoTheWeim I've gotta admit, I've yet to hear a bad thing from anyone I've spoke to about CMMG
I don't know how long they stayed in stock but I had a back in stock notification set with Aero and was able to order TWO EPC-9 BCGs on December 2, and had them in hand on the 10th. Obviously YMMV.
what m81 jacket is that?
I actually have an Aero EPC-9 BCG I got about a year ago. I also had Macon Armory update the buffer as well as mill the feed ramp for better feeding of subsonic hollow points. Runs awesome now
Mom said it’s my turn with the BCG
I have a Epc 9 with the enhanced upper using the 5.5” barrel with the enhanced 7.3” handguard for my omega 9k to fit under. Found my epc9 bcg at local gun store in Tacoma. 100% aero parts for that build.
I have a 5.5” BA barrel and 4.8” atlas r one handguard. Using mil spec lower with stern defense adapter. To run a suppressor u needa run a pistol piston and fixed barrel spacer. That’s how I get can on that upper.
They posted on IG that they released the big saying "Hop made us do it"
I bought a Freedom Ordinance FX-9 because it was at my local Rural King and it was cheap. I think I paid $500. Super accurate with any ammo and really reliable.
Extar EP9 review when?
Glock mags are definitely not better than colt smg. Not sure what this guy is talking about.
Would love to see you do a comparison of the extar ep9, fx9, and the aero! Love the channel!
EPC is very nice quality.
lol "until moral improves"
I appreciate the video.
honestly i think the PSA AR-V is the pinnacle of straight blow back Ar-9's. i would encourage you to get your hands on one if you can, Hop.
PSA have an AR9 that's 100% built by them,
I think it's called the gen 4 AR9 or something that uses Glock mags and is different than the other AR9 stuff they have, but you can buy it fully assembled and everything and even find it as a daily deal quite often
I'd be *REALLY* interested in a review of that
(Or the jackl as I really wanna see a review of a prison based AR that can be set for both 223/556 and 300blackout (from the same upper, unlike brownells that's like a grand or cheaper, and if built not only is it cheaper but it uses regular AR lowers)
So for the more budget minded like me, I'd REALLY REALLY wanna see a review of either from a TH-camr I trust and respect review either of them...
Gun Lesbian!!
Got two Epc 9 BCG’s from aero’s website 5 weeks ago. Jumped on the notification as soon as I saw it.
The gen 1 might have killed this thing dead before it ever had a chance. Disappointing.
I have a palmetto state armory ar9. The first 100 or so rounds the thing almost found it’s way to the trash can but since has had 2800ish
rounds with no more malfunctions since.
You need to try the Extar EP9! Best deal for a somewhat AR9 platform
need to try out the foxtrot mike FM9. the lower seems to have LRBHO and even a PDQ style bolt release
Mine is mostly arrow precision except I'm using a foxtrot mike bolt carrier group and buffer. After the initial break-in it's rain flawlessly.
How did it run with the Fail Zero?
@@julian-estrada Nope. Went with the standard size and a SprinCo Red. I'm sure the JP is great too though.
@@TRpvd huh, no kidding they said if I was in a rush because the JP enterprise is always sold out they have sprinco reds in stock
Found an areo bolt for my epc-9 from a random, small online retailer a year ago. I will say it has ran flawlessly.
I'm curious what you think about Foxtrot Mike products, and their PCCs
I'm running at EPC 9 upper and lower, EPC bolt, the new BA barrel with the feed ramp cut. Still running the 308 spring with the EPC buffer. I'm going to try a carbine spring now and see how that runs, it's been flawless with the 308 spring but after the barrel re cut ramp came out I want to see if it will do just as well with the carbine.
I did a AERO upper and lower and then used a Dead Foot Arms MCS with the folding adapter. It’s functioned pretty much flawlessly for me and it comes with DFA’s proprietary BCG.
