The Few and The Proud - Red Band Marine Recruiting Video

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 10 ก.ย. 2024
  • A recently declassified Marine recruiting video done by the Harding Institute under contract from the U.S.Marine Corps. Our mandate from the Commandant was, "we need some hardcore recruiting videos to grab the attention of America's youth. They watch R-rated movies, play violent videogames and most are on drugs. If we're fighting for the hearts and minds of the next generation, we have to compete aggressively. What we need is the equivalent of what they call those 'red band trailers' for the movies."
    Unfortunately, this video was rejected and classified on the basis that it "reflects poorly on the Marines, sends the wrong message and defies modern standards of good taste and decency." Under the new Obama/Gates regime, there is a new standard of transparency in the Department of Defense and this video has just been declassified. The Harding Institute is still hopeful that the video will prove to be an effective online recruiting tool. Please note, though, that this video is NOT appropriate for minors and should NOT be viewed by anyone under the age of 21 and probably not by people at work.

    • @sullivanlaramie2901
      @sullivanlaramie2901 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was (only) Public Affairs, but there was a lot of downward "yes sir" and "yes ma'am" around the office for simplicity. Started off as a lot of officers coming through and we didn't necessarily know the rank of someone who started talking to us from behind. Eventually it was just something we did even when we knew who was talking.
      The officers didn't seem to mind and our master sergeant started it, so it was just one of those things.

Something you could always do as well, is a friend of mine was getting denied into the Navy so he just kept asking to talk to the next boss up, and the next boss up and finally had lunch with the Commanding Officer of the entire region, who subsequently put him in the Navy, just because of his dedication.

      Well as a Sergeant with 6 years in, I can identify three groups who would be offended by this:
      1.) Boot fucks who are overly proud and don't understand that this is a joke
      2.) Retired/EAS'd Vets from back in the day who don't understand that this is a joke.
      3.) People who are close with/related to a Marine, are also overly proud and don't understand that this is a joke.
      I have all the respect in the world for the Marine Corps, as does just about every Marine (no matter how disgruntled). I'm proud of what I've accomplished as a Marine, and know some of the best guys in the world because of it. All of those guys also find this hilarious.

    • @Harb40
      @Harb40 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Charles DuBruille
      Well, as a Staff Sergeant with nearly 14 years active and 1 year reserve service, who was medically discharged due to combat related injuries, I don't fall into any of your 3 categories.
      Apparently the guys you reference are either lying to you or you are making it up. The majority of those I served with, those I am still in contact with (over 50), find this clip either disrespectful or ignorant. not a single one thought it was funny. Especially those of us who served on special duty in D.C. and those of us who served under extreme circumstances in places most of us never thought we would be in.
      A joke is one thing. As I stated before, satire is one thing, IGNORANT BULLSHIT is something else. There is nothing funny at all about this.
      I am very proud of my service, proud to know the men and women I served with, sad for those I lost, but I will never find this type of crap funny.

    I try doing about five more pull-ups to bring it up to 9 or 10 pull-ups, I got to about 8. I've been trying to run 3 miles in at least 20 minutes. Boot Camp also gets you in shape but it is more intense and more stressful than at home. I always try to simulate for my self what Boot Camp would be like, I've been getting up at 04:00 hours or 03:30 hours, and imagining a DI screaming in my face, but that is just dreaming, and it does not count if it's not the real deal.

    but this was an intentional spoof if you didn't know. way to have a sense of humor. on top of all the bs they made up, the appearances and such were part of the "joke" in this spoof.

    If you gained U.S. citizenship then yes. From what I heard people can join at 17 years old with their parents permission, but when they are 18 they can join with their own concent. However if you are older than 18 or something like that, then you can just join. There are a lot other background checks you have to go through, but if they ask you question that are too personal well, don't ask, don't tell.

    @atarturk there's no joke about recruiting. That's how it really is; all a scam to get your life signed away. However, I respect recruiting enough to know that it is essential to a modern military.

    Lol I have never seen a marine who has actually been transported on a navy ship disrespect their pimps that much. (That's what the navy is, pimps, they take the marines to their appointments and protect them with their corpmen, EOD techs, pilots and SEALs)

    As long as you do not have tattoos that are above your collar line or below your wrist, the Marine Corps will accept the felony. Talk to your local recruiter, and if he says he cannot help you, find another. One eventually will get you in if you really want it.
    I know, I was active duty Marines for 5 years and have had tons of friends with felonies in with me. Dedication is what they look for, they see that, they will make it work.
    OORAH!

    this was never a real recruiting vid, but the recruiters have been acting like that for real for the last decade, they really don't need the commercials

    initial requirement for male recruits, I believe) I can do about four pull-ups. There are a lot of things I should work on though, and I know that the Marine Corp is aggressive and intense (DIs screaming in our faces and our ears, 30 second to do this, 40 seconds to do that, 20 seconds, "Do it now!" We have to match the senior DI's speed.) I know that I can be a Marine and I would just like a chance to do so.

    I have never been convicted of a felony. I am not a felon. The only problem the guy had was that I had some issues with depression and that I did a few things to punish myself a long time ago when I was a kid, but I've gotten over it. I don't think I should be disqualified becuse of that, but I guess it's not up to me. I know that I am mentally fit and pysically fit. I can do about 66 crunches in 2 minutes, I can run for a long time with out getting tired (1.5 miles in 13:30 is the....

    I might need to find a partner to hold my feet down or try to place them underneath my crouch to keep me from lifting them up. When 2 minutes pass, I'm done and I record my reps, the first one on the first day I started was about 45 crunches, the second rep in the same day was about 48(waiting 5 mins between each rep) The second day on the first rep, I finaly got to 51 crunches, the second rep was 59. Keep trying to do them as fast as I could and i'm now doing 66 crunches in 2 mins-->>
