Thank you for sharing. Stranded with my two little kids 20 miles away from home on my insignia 2009. Watched this video and now nice and warm at home. Absolute life saver! What a hero you truly are ❤
Thankyou so very much for this video. My parents are in their 80’s and my fathers car did this today. Left them both totally stranded. After he rang around to have it diagnosed /collected , and running through all the potential nightmare problems with immobilsers, he rang me for a number for a low loader to ‘take it in’ and I asked what for. He explained and I found you. All the mechanics he rang and the garage it was to be booked into had no advice for him other than ‘could be anything’ scenario. I watched your vid, rang him back and said I would be there within the hour ( 5mile bike ride!). I got the car fixed in the 15 seconds it took and cannot tell you how relieved everyone was. Just amazing. So I told my mum I would message you and express my sincere thanks on everyone’s behalf. So again , THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH. (Meriva 2012)
I just tried this on my 2012 1.3 diesel meriva after having this issue. Stuck at Sainsbury's petrol station until I found your video. Brilliantly well explained and demonstrated and it actually worked. Thanks 💯
Hello there once again.. over a year ago, you video helped me on a wintery night on a quiet road. Once again, I had same issue today and I couldn't remember what I had done last time to fix it. After a bit of search I managed to locate your video and fix the issue. Just would like to say thank you for keep this video available and not removing it. Once again, thanks a ton for helping out.
What a hero! Saved me big time, I was parked on a residential permit only area for a few minutes (where I was not a resident permit holder) and came back to find the immobiliser light flashing. The garages near me wouldn't help me, I had no breakdown cover for that vehicle and was trying to 'MacGyver' my way out until I came across your video and was able to start the vehicle. Quick, detailed and well explained, thank you so much, by the amount of comments, you are doing something good with your knowledge.
You have been my saviour today! This happened with my 13 plate Meriva that I only bought 2wk ago, all garages including Vauxhall said there was nothing they could do then I found this video, showed my Dad and he sorted it in less than 5mins! Thank you SO SO much 👏
Hi there, can’t thank you enough for this video. I went to pick my son at school in my 2012 Vauxhall Meriva. I couldn’t start my car and it came up with immobiliser warning light. I made two phone calls, one to my local garage who recommended to wait for 10 minutes and/or try spare key. Neither worked so they asked me to contact LockSmith, who told me if neither keys are working, I need to take it to main dealer. Being on verge of redundancy, this was the last expense I need. After browsing a number of websites, I came across your video. I followed your steps and it started in less than 2 minutes. For other viewers, I did get error code 59 after this fix but it cleared after rolling down/up both front windows in parallel. Once again, thank you so much. Have a great X-mas with your family and loved ones.
Thank you! On Saturday this video saved me bringing back to life my Opel Meriva 2016. However, on Wednesday it happened again. (So far) the procedure isn't working. (but I’ll keep trying). Later… on the fifth attempt I connected NEG to POS for 30 seconds, it worked!!! Hallelujah! (I’ll certainly check the car battery!!!)
Cheers for the info mate .Just fixed the girlfriends car using your instructions, word for word and the car started .The garage told us to get someone out that knows electronics lol .I’ve just subbed to you because of your help .Thanks once again .
Thank you so much for this video. I finished a night shift this morning and my car wouldn't start. Found your video and luckily the security office at my work had a spanner. Car started straight after doing your instructions

Great video mate! This helped me get my Vauxhall Meriva started yesterday while on holiday. lt wasn't starting due to that immobiliser thing. This was the first time my Meriva failed to start. Even the official Vauxhall manual was not any help. Thanks once again!
Life saver best advice works on 2012 Meriva unlocked the car remotely and still worked and Vauxhall was going to charge me £120 an hour laber thank you 10/10 pukka stuff buzzing mate!!!!!!!
Had to be towed home then Googled the problem absolutely amazing worked a treat what a man. After starting codes appeared and all I had to do was put windows down and back up one at a time and codes disappeared .THANKS AGAIN.and yes spanner for battery being kept in boot now lol.
Had this issue (on my meriva) last night parked up at night away from home, had to call breakdown cover as was told it needs to go into mechanics next day. I found your video and knew this was it, asked breakdown guy to give it a go and whoop it worked! Amazing, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and you saved me money & time, really appreciate it 🙏🏽👍🏽 even guy from breakdown was impressed with me, Bonus 😆
Done similar on meriva b , only disconnected negative , never needed to cross to positive just waited 10 seconds with negative lead off tighten back on and turned key started again , has done this maybe 4 times in past year so have to keep 10mm socket handy couple of codes coming up so just cancel them on indicator/reset button,, came across this video when it first happened waiting on rac in panic to arrive so thanks they were not needed 😊
Hello Anton, I am a subscriber at your TH-cam channel and I follow you ever since. I have this issue that no Opel Repair house (at least the Greek ones here) can come up with a solution. I have an Opel Astra J 2010 Turbo 140bhp 1.4 A14NET , and lately it gives me an indicator that my door (right or both right doors depending on the day) show are open and that keeps my cabin lights on which I manually turn them off so that I save my battery. 6 times in Opel service shops they tried to change my door locks (expensive repair) which once I did it and came up again the same issue I asked for refund and they accepted that it wasn’t the issue. It is something electronic. They used the TestBook and reset it and I was good to go for a month maybe less. Now again the same thing happened and once I took off the negative side of the battery and let it rest for a few mins it was gone. BUT again the same thing 3 days ago. Any help brother would be highly immensely appreciated!!
This kind of issue is usually water ingress on to the small reed switch in the door lock assembly, usually after bad weather, another would be the loom, or connector plug from the door to the car on the hinge, a damaged wire or bad connection. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hope this finds you well. I have the model after this Astra 2015 onwards. Mine does same thing but engine still comes on just can’t see my speed. My battery is in the boot so probably more difficult to unplug the negative. Any suggestions? I know this is common with these models
Thanks for this informative video. Do you know how to lower the volume of the warning chimes on the Astra J? After fitting an amplifier to the stereo, the chimes are now too loud as they originate from the stereo head unit.
Thank you, great video, the Meriva now starts again. We have had this problem with the Meriva for the last year. Q: Why do we have to do this reset each 500…600 km? The battery reset causes a Speedometer reset to 115,100 km at each reset. Why?
Thank you for the video, but with my astra 2015 model this didn't work. I replaced my key cover and now the key when inserted shows the issue with theft deterrent. The key can still lock and unlock the car as well as the spare key can switch on the car, but the key that has remote locking/unlocking mechanism when used to switch on the car, reports issue with theft deterrent. Any suggestion on what can be done
There is a transponder chip in the key case, like in this video th-cam.com/video/VhxNx9A5mCY/w-d-xo.html be sure to swap it over Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I've just come across this video. We've had this happen three times in eighteen months on our 2011 Meriva-B SE. Neither the main or spare key are recognised until the reset is carried out as per the video. Inconvenient, but a cheap fix and carry a 10mm spanner for the purpose. I just wondered if anybody knows of a permanent fix? Although as it doesn't seem to be the keys, I guess that would involve throwing many £££s at it! Thanks very much for the video, keep them coming.
lovely video mate. i’ve got a 2009 vauxhall astra vxr which i would try what you’ve said in the video but the only issue is that’s it’s the keyless fob (keyless start and entry). i’ve diagnosed the car and it’s come back with the code P1614- what would you recommend for me to do
@@aaanton11 i had the instrument cluster taken out before this issue started to occur and i think that might be the problem. could this be the case? also when i was taking it out i had the car started which cut off twice and then i didn’t try starting it until after i had taken it out and put back in. do you still think it’s is the transponder
thatks a lot mate. this works for me perfectly but when to closed the car and then start it again with the original key it didnt work, the second key works ok by the way. whats the process to make the first ket works again?
@@aaanton11 it works ok before the anti theft locking system got activated but then suddenly stop works(after stop the anti theft locking system with your way) . i ll try to use a new battery as you said, thanks a lot :)
We sometimes have the lock warning light illuminate on the wife's 2016 Mokka, but it doesn't flash - it comes on and stays on. But it's not every time she uses it. Will this trick cure it? Thanks.
Hi there, i tried this on a vauxhall adam however it didnt work :( also changed the battery for a stronger one and still no luck! the car was starting before but now not starting and comes up with this same light! one thing to note is i did take out the complete dash as the airbags were deployed and changed all modules over do you think it could be something to do with this? whilst the car was sitting the battery ran completely flat aswell and wouldnt start with a jump start NO CRANK NO START love the videos thank you
hi Have got this problem right now- all sounds good- but disconnect the cable from the negative terninal - then connect both wires for 15 secs to positive battery terminal? (neg still disconnected right?) - so you are making a circuit with cables and just the positive terminal. If you confirm will try it in the morning! Thanks
Eureka moment! Just avoided right now a huge Car dealership bill when my mechanic popped by and just did it in less than 5 mins! Thanks for the video! So cool! Does that happen sometimes (2013 Vauxhall Meriva SE)? I mean a common thing? Jee all these electronic crap things on these new cars!!! Had an Astral '92, ugly AF but the best car EVER!!
I have a natural worry about shorting things out.... however, I do have a problem with my Mervia where about 1 in 6 times I start it, the engine just turns over. I put the key back and turn the ignition again, and it starts first time and it's all good. Any idea on that one? Thanks mate.
@aaanton11 Thanks for that, but it would have to be the car one rather than the key, as I've changed the key and batteries and no difference. Just have to live with it? Cheers for the replay mate, and have a great day.
Hi, I’ve got a 2011 plate Vauxhall Astra petrol no codes in the system but it will not start. I have checked starter motor relay and power at the start of motor. Do you reckon it is worth trying what you have done in your video for this fault? The car drove fine, parked up, then went to start it and it did absolutely nothing! There are no fault codes in the system either
I just watched the video and it's very informative.i have a different problem.i drive my cat perfect.parked it up at home...hour later went bk to car and can't turn key in ignition.also steering lock is on...do you have any idea what the problem could be
Give the steering wheel a good shake left right and try to turn the key if this does not work remove the key and tap the barrel with a hammer gently then try again, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
On my 2016 combo 1.6cdti I received the tip after changed oil and fuel filter. Imob on unable to start. I was told to take key out and lock and unlock 5 times in succession. And that returned everything to normal.
Hiya can i ask a Question. I get in my Astra 2012 sometimes i dont put the key in straight away ( check messafes etc) When i eventually do use the key i get no lights at all nothing! Untill i turn the lights on. Is this normal or some sort of sleep mode.
Just having this issue on Astra J 2015. It's just the Service Theft Deterrent System on show although remote central locking works and I even switched batteries around on the original key. I haven't popped the bonnet open and tried that positive negative yet but wondering if it's the same way to resolve the issue. What I realised is with my spare key my radio favourites even disappeared ! But seems to start the ignition without any troubles whereas my original key just keeps the warning flashing.
@@aaanton11 You Sir are an absolute gem and thanks.I was stuck in Dublin after work with a 75km trip home and herself not starting 😄 3 mins later and after a bit of messing with the windows, she fires up! Thanks again.
Hey mate, the immobiliser symbol on my dashboard doesn’t flash. It is solid. Does that also indicate the same fault and do you think your method to reset it would work?
Basically I’ve had a key snap on me, so put the blade on my Old replacement and when I done that it’s coming up with this error and the car won’t start? Any help would be much appreciated thank you
Sounds like a transponder issue, you need to hold the base of the old key near the ignition barrel and see if it starts, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi, I have this problrm once a week. The only way to start Meriva again is to disconnect battery as you did, but I do not join positive and negative. Is it the reason why I cannot solve it permanently? And if not, what could be the problem? Car battery and key batteries are new
I've had the dpf filter removed on my 2011 astra. The garage reprogrammed the car to think that it still has the DPF in there. If I disconnect the battery and reset will that affect it or is that a different thing? Plus had it upgraded from a 110hp to a 145hp
Did your car tick as u tryed to start it? Mines been lying for weeks with dead battery, all lights come on then just get the one tick when i try start, got the light on dash car thinks its being stole pretty much
Will this also work on a 2004 Astra? Imoboliser light not flashing but solid on and car wont start when on. randomly goes out after like 10 key turns then it will start.

Glad I could help! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
thatks a lot mate. this works for me perfectly but when to closed the car and then start it again with the original key it didnt work, the second key works ok by the way. whats the process to make the first ket works again?
there must be an issue with the key, might need a new battery Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks.
Should do Give it a bash, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi there, i tried this on a vauxhall adam however it didnt work :(
also changed the battery for a stronger one and still no luck! the car was starting before but now not starting and comes up with this same light!
one thing to note is i did take out the complete dash as the airbags were deployed and changed all modules over do you think it could be something to do with this?
whilst the car was sitting the battery ran completely flat aswell and wouldnt start with a jump start
NO CRANK NO START
love the videos thank you
Sounds Like the modules might need recoding to the car, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Same problem for me, worked a treat thanks so much! Valuable lesson learned keep a small spanner in the boot haha
Glad it helped! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
hi Have got this problem right now- all sounds good- but disconnect the cable from the negative terninal - then connect both wires for 15 secs to positive battery terminal? (neg still disconnected right?) - so you are making a circuit with cables and just the positive terminal.
If you confirm will try it in the morning! Thanks
you have it spot on, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Legend. Just tried this. You have saved the day 🙌
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
At the point of my need this video helped me thank you.
Glad I could help Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
thank you very much for your video I managed to fix my friends merivia b which started doing this saved him a 4 hour wait for recovery
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Exactly the same here for my Meriva 2013, my mechanic fixed it in less than 5 mins and I saved myself the huge hassle and bill to be towed to a dealer
Perfect video. Great, simple, clear instructions. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks so much for this. Worked perfectly on my wife's Meriva.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Eureka moment! Just avoided right now a huge Car dealership bill when my mechanic popped by and just did it in less than 5 mins! Thanks for the video! So cool! Does that happen sometimes (2013 Vauxhall Meriva SE)? I mean a common thing? Jee all these electronic crap things on these new cars!!! Had an Astral '92, ugly AF but the best car EVER!!
This is common on loads of models, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi mate. My car has 2 keys , 1 working well but other doesnt work even remote to lock and unlock door. Should this video will work for my car's case ?
No, thats more a key issue, check the remote battery Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 thank you. I changed a new key battery but no luck. Maybe problem is key itself
Amazing! Thank you! (I've taught a RAC engineer this as well ;-) )
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Currently waiting for RAC too and fingers crossed it'll work 🤞🏾
It worked🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have a natural worry about shorting things out.... however, I do have a problem with my Mervia where about 1 in 6 times I start it, the engine just turns over. I put the key back and turn the ignition again, and it starts first time and it's all good.
Any idea on that one? Thanks mate.
Transponder signal weak, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@aaanton11 Thanks for that, but it would have to be the car one rather than the key, as I've changed the key and batteries and no difference. Just have to live with it?
Cheers for the replay mate, and have a great day.
Hi, I’ve got a 2011 plate Vauxhall Astra petrol no codes in the system but it will not start. I have checked starter motor relay and power at the start of motor. Do you reckon it is worth trying what you have done in your video for this fault? The car drove fine, parked up, then went to start it and it did absolutely nothing! There are no fault codes in the system either
Yes always worth checking, also check the engine earth wire for a poor connection, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
People like you are a godsend, thankyou for all you do! Your a star 🌟
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I just watched the video and it's very informative.i have a different problem.i drive my cat perfect.parked it up at home...hour later went bk to car and can't turn key in ignition.also steering lock is on...do you have any idea what the problem could be
Give the steering wheel a good shake left right and try to turn the key if this does not work remove the key and tap the barrel with a hammer gently then try again, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Will this work on on chev Curz 2013
give it a go, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
On my 2016 combo 1.6cdti I received the tip after changed oil and fuel filter. Imob on unable to start. I was told to take key out and lock and unlock 5 times in succession. And that returned everything to normal.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hiya can i ask a Question. I get in my Astra 2012 sometimes i dont put the key in straight away ( check messafes etc) When i eventually do use the key i get no lights at all nothing! Untill i turn the lights on. Is this normal or some sort of sleep mode.
Sounds like you have a bug, try disconnecting and reconnecting the car battery it might reset everything,Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Definitely worth trying this repair, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi just seeing this video will it work on my opel signum
Yes Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks a million.
Only thing different with my one is that I had to open and close driver and passenger windows. Is that normal??
yes, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 You Sir are an absolute gem and thanks.I was stuck in Dublin after work with a 75km trip home and herself not starting 😄
3 mins later and after a bit of messing with the windows, she fires up!
Thanks again.
It helped me thanks for creating this video
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hey mate, the immobiliser symbol on my dashboard doesn’t flash. It is solid. Does that also indicate the same fault and do you think your method to reset it would work?
Yes give it a bash, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Basically I’ve had a key snap on me, so put the blade on my
Old replacement and when I done that it’s coming up with this error and the car won’t start? Any help would be much appreciated thank you
Sounds like a transponder issue, you need to hold the base of the old key near the ignition barrel and see if it starts, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi,
I have this problrm once a week. The only way to start Meriva again is to disconnect battery as you did, but I do not join positive and negative. Is it the reason why I cannot solve it permanently? And if not, what could be the problem?
Car battery and key batteries are new
I would think you have a bad earth somewhere, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi do you think it will work for astra 2017 with start button? Thx in advance
Yes worth a try, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hello,
Thank you so much for the video.
You saved me!!
You're welcome! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I've had the dpf filter removed on my 2011 astra. The garage reprogrammed the car to think that it still has the DPF in there. If I disconnect the battery and reset will that affect it or is that a different thing? Plus had it upgraded from a 110hp to a 145hp
Disconnecting the battery wont affect the ecu map, so don't worry, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for clear instructions. Just got me back on road in 2012 Meriva.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just tried this mate and the key still works. When I did what you said with the battery the key still worked. Can you recommend anything pls
You say the key worked? what is wrong then, not sure of your issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks so much. This was the miracle my wife and I needed this afternoon.
Thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
flip thanks I just was at gas station. vehicle died had friend Google problem thanks to your tutorial I am much wiser
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Would this work on a 2013 Chevy traverse
Possible give it a try, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Did your car tick as u tryed to start it? Mines been lying for weeks with dead battery, all lights come on then just get the one tick when i try start, got the light on dash car thinks its being stole pretty much
Sounds like your battery might need charging, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Will this also work on a 2004 Astra? Imoboliser light not flashing but solid on and car wont start when on. randomly goes out after like 10 key turns then it will start.
Always worth a try, thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
