I really like how DST has so many flavors of new player friendly characters. You've got Wilson with built in winter insulation, Wendy and Woodie with easy crowd control options, Webber with his easy access to food and spider glands, and Walter with his access to easy speed and storage. So if you're a new player who needs some kind of crutch, there's a ton of variety even still. You don't just have to play the dedicated "easy mode" character. Additionally, most of the easier characters also have a ton of potential to do cool things so there's no shame in choosing one of the easier to use characters.
im not sure if webber is that new player friendly since he's a monster and has a really low sanity stat and besides darkness insanity is one of the main things that kills new players
@@Tired_Tortilla Webber has probably the easiest access to a top hat and sleeping, though. So it's not all bad with sanity for him. Also darkness doesn't really kill new players. It kills them one time and then never again.
@@Tired_TortillaI find his low max sanity a positive more often than not because it’s easier to regain sanity above the insanity threshold. 4 flowers and Webber goes from 0 to sane. As long as he’s above 2 sanity, it only one crawling horror kill to go sane. Characters like Wilson would need to kill multiple shadow monsters to go sane, which can be hard for new players that can’t do so efficiently as you will suffer their sanity auras for longer.
@@Hypn01013 Wendy gives you a false sense of security by thinking Abigail can and will save you all the time. She's fine for learning how to survive but once you have to fight deerclops you realize Abigail is terrible against bosses because of mob damage and Wendy does 20% less melee damage
I think Wigfrid is the easiest. Sure she only eats meat but she also has life steal and gains sanity from killing mobs. Basically meaning a Webber can keep Wigfrid alive since she doesn’t need to care about the down sides of monster meat. Plus pretty easy form of protection and damage from the hat and spear.
The thing is experience usually clouds how easy or hard something is. Once we know how to do things we tend to forget how we struggled before knowing. That's why I feel wigfrid is not the easiest since she actively has things that go against survival but her starting kit does help nudge people into combat more which is why she is good.
@@DVGMedia1 I'll always recommend Wigfrid over Wendy for new players since Wendy encourages a very passive playstyle that hinders the learning of kiting and fighting bosses, while Wigfrid actually encourages you to get better at fighting, not only because that's how you regain health and sanity, but because the best meat sources in the game fight back. And she provides you the tools to be safer while learning, with cheap armor, a decent weapon and a natural damage resistance. (This has nothing to do with who's easier btw, lol)
Abi definitely has a mind of her own. There has been countless time when Abi just stand next to a boss and not attacking even if Wendy is attacking someone in peaceful mode. At first, it was annoying but overtime that little bug kinda give her a personality. I just imagine that Abi is still young, and sometimes she gets zoned out watching butterfly while her sister is fighting for her life lol
yeah its usually just cause of big bosses there is just something strange going where she is in range and thinks she is attacking and hitting but she actually isnt' It happens alot with toadstool and crabking but can see it happen sometimes with beequeen.
As a 1400 hour Wendy main I really want her skill tree to come out already. Wendy is honestly really good at what she does and does it well but later on things Wendy does kinda doesn't matter and you end up just giving an abundance of stuff you don't need anymore. She's a perfect early game character but that's about it. I recently started playing willow because willow just feels like a better Wendy in every way with her skill tree.
I remember thinking that Wendy need only one rework to become a very good character - improving Abigail AI. She was still nice to play, but the fact that Abigail will most likely die if being caught by random tentacle or tanky opponent like an Ent was a bit frustrating. Only thing you can do is run far enough to deload the area and pray that other player isn't loading it. And improving AI is exactly what happened and it definitely made her strong. I mean yeah, there are potions and stuff, but be able to control Abigail is already insanely good
What I like about Wendy is how trivial she makes the repetitive tasks of the game like food gathering and (for me killing bee queen for jellybeans) while also having a lot of advanced boss techniques that adds a new flare to boss fights while still getting good dps
I myself am a Wendy main HOWEVER I have 370 hours in this game. I am not bad by any means and playing the “very easy” character sometimes becomes your favorite. Late game Wendy becomes very difficult and all the players in the together servers dig the graves so no morning glory. As well as in the harder bosses Abby dies too quickly and your weaker damage is a big problem. Wendy is an easy character, that’s obvious, but everyone has a favorite character regardless of skill. (My sisters favorite is warly but she always dies within the first 3 days w him)
Im going to guess when she (eventually) gets her skilltree, one of her shadow allingmemt tree perks will probably make abigail act a lot like Maxwell's shadow puppets, i could see it being litteraly just being abigail's sillouette (her human sillouette), and acting more like a duplicate of wendy (something similar to popo and nana from smash bros) As for the lunar side i have no idea, maybe a reanimated zombie form of abigail?
I remember in like 2013 I saw this game being played by one my fav streamers of the time playing dont starve (not together just the single player) and I saw wendy in one of his playthroughs (his favorite was not even wendy but rather wolfgang becouse he is da big guy with da big numbers) and becouse I was (and still are to a degree) a biiig fan of summoner characters in fantast like necromancers or beastmasters I abslotuely adored her And this is why I mained wnedy and have like 7 skin sets on her
I love wendy cause of her character but honestly i’d really enjoy her having a different kit, not because it doesn’t suit her but i am not a fan of her gameplay as much as i used to but i still wanna play her 😭😭😭
Probably one of my least played character's. Idk why I don't play Wendy more. Like I'm a JoJo's bizarre adventure fan and she's like a literal stand ( a ghost/spirit that strands next to you)
@@hypeman958I mean I guess so. The thing about the planar stuff is that they kind of re-even the playing field since damage multipliers become less impactful. Plus, her only downside has always been her matchup versus insanity since Abigail is incapable of helping her out, but then the brightshade weapon just deletes those things in half the time as early game.
Pretty true. The first time I ever played DST I chose I think Wolfgang and died the first night. And like 2 or 3 years later I play the game again after watching a few videos and chose Wendy.

0:33 40 frog legs though? Abigail usually gets wrecked in Frog Rains (without correct use of power ups).
could be gotten easily from frog ponds if the world has them.

Can the pugalisk deapthworm swallow Abby? 😢
