The Beauty of Combat
The combat in don't starve and don't starve together seems pretty simple but theres alot more going on under the hood.
So come with me as we cover a few of the nuances of The DST Combat system.

1:05 I'm frankly offended by the mere suggestion
Can we get a video of this destroying some bosses?
It only hits the player
Wolfang ayy
right got it! (googles silk farm lol)
Uncompromissing mode :
walls+statue+punch the king = instant army
I personally use eyebrella because it is useful in 2 seasons and I usually have eye of deerclops. In winter I use Tam o' Shanter only if it drops, but I defeat MacTusk only for the tusk, and if it doesn't drop I use buffalo hat. I use night swords because in mid game I have tons of living logs and additional damage can always come in handy. I like using panflute very much but it is difficult to renew I often leave it for bosses but if for example you play Wickerbottom then a sleepytime stories book is very useful and you can also use it quite creatively because it is easily renewable.
My wife is a Wendy main, youve literally addressed her current complaints and thoughts on the new skill tree.
I didn't even know it exists until now
Your channel feels like of breath of fresh air, both for DST and TH-cam in general. Keep doing what you're doing, because this is wonderful
You dislike Walter because he plays different I dislike Walter because he looks different we are not the same
I think I'd be cool if he either got a rework or skill tree points that allowed him to mimic the other survivors and use (but not produce) their exclusive tools. He is a mime, after all. If you want to keep him as the joke character, make it so he can't properly use the items. I can see wes trying to lift Wolfgang's bells, only for them to fall on his face, dealing damage to him and enemies within the area, and also freezing/burning him depending on the type of dumbbell. Him trying to patch up a boat using Winona's tape only to get it stuck on his body instead. Him using Warly's crockpot only for the dish to inexplicably be just a pile of balloons every time. He can eat gears, but he just spits them out, dealing 5 damage to him. Maxwell can already use Wickerbottom's books, why not have a character dedicated to using what the other characters have built for themselves? That way, he's still the challenge character on a solo world, but he might have some value on a multiplayer world.
babe this is a campfire not a firepit
Its in a hole it's contained
Most characters really cant use tam-o-shanter, but it is pretty useful as Wickerbottom on multiplayer servers, Your base of operation is usually not lunar island/grotto, which means that you actually need to care about sanity. And while +50 sanity per day doesnt sound like a lot, it spares a lot of resources over long time (good food demands a lot of vegies/fish or rare ingredients, and star caller staffs are pretty expensive too). And fighting nightmares is quite a hustle, especially when you need to use a book 2-3 times, and double so if you need to use books in a row.
2:54 There is an absurd amount of super mega cheap food items coupled with Butterflies existing. Blue caps too. Many characters can comfortably take minor damage on a regular basis.
not as much as wanda though and not as free theres usually a trade in stats there or just time. once wanda gets another watch is just like woo i get 3 pirogies of hp a day!
This video would've been interesting to me as a Don't Starve Together player since 2016 in general, but especially right NOW, because guess what? The latest server I started, has been an Adventure in Worldgen, so hearing details about how exactly worldgen itself works, is PERFECT right now! :) My current DST world has both unexpected and _expected_ weirdness about how it generated. One part of that weirdness, is that I deliberately set almost everything to "None", for a challenge--so sometimes I can't quite tell WHICH biome this area was, originally. I'm like "Well, it has green grass, so it could (one of five things)..." But that's expected, that it'd be mostly empty. I did that on purpose. What WASN'T exected was the fact that when I explored to the (mainland) map's northernmost edge, I found out I could....WALK to the Lunar "Island". I did nothing to the landscape-itself settings--loop, branch, roads, etc. Just, Lunar Peninsula. If I want to balance out my sanity, I can just stroll over there and get Enlightened. Anyway, rambling aside, my point IS, that things like that are part of _why_ I find worldgen in procedural games in general and in Don't Starve in particular, to be so interesting. Sometimes it does something REALLY FREAKING WEIRD! and make you curious about: What exactly in the code caused/allowed that? How likely is it? Etc. Knowing the pattern of where and how biomes tend to appear, can help narrow that down. And then, there was my other fave Worldgen Weirdness Moment of all time: The Oasis Catcoon. Long story short, the birch trees at the oasis apparently used to trigger the "this is a birch forest, so put birch foresty things in it" code, and I ended up with the CUTEST summer nights, fishing by the pond, that you ever did see. :)
Oh it's an *aura*!? So bee queen hat would work!
i tried that sadly it doesnt D:
aww
Fuelweaver is a dance that eliminates all your progress if you panic, even if you have a ton of resources you can still get overwhelmed. Me being back from a rough Monday with 2 stacks of gun powder for no particular purpose in my inventory says otherwise.
Love the slime bomb that kills sanity!
on a somewhat related note isn’t it kinda odd how he gets more sane by repeatedly replanting the same plants bush? Is it an oversight or a feature? Also, is there an explanation somewhere for why Wormwood can eat plant food (his favourite food is banana btw)? Wouldn’t that count as cannibalism or is it more about “assimilation” just like dead plants become a fertiliser for other plants?
u eat meat, u eat mammals and thats not cannabalism. he also doesnt seem to have an issue with farm crops dying likely understanding that fruits being eaten are a part of its natural life cycle. not that the constants denizens care much about the morality of cannabilism.
Plants make fruits so that they can be eaten though technically vegetables are the ones that should cause sanity drain because eating a vegetable is killing the plant where as eating a fruit spreads the plants seeds further it's actually the reason why certain things are evolved the way that they are. like the reason why peppers are very hot to us and any mammalian that tries to eat them is because we would destroy the seeds while eating them meaning that the fruit becomes unviable where Birds absolutely love eating peppers since they eat the pepper whole and they're not even affected by the spice of the pepper
@ fair enough although Im still kinda confused why Klei kept the sanity "exploit" with replanting the same sapling even if its not that big of a deal, not sure if it would be better to lower sanity gain or increase sanity loss
@ i very rarely use that exploit because wormwood already has excellent control over his sanity by eating moonshrooms or planting seeds/pinecones which is much faster and takes less inventory space. if klei was to increase sanity loss it would only really make gathering saplings and grass more tedious, and if klei was to decrease the sanity gain it would probably be a notable nerf to wormwoods early game which is already one of the weakest/hardest characters early game while and not make any impact mid-late game which is where wormwood excells. if klei was to change it without nerfing wormwood perhaps they could make it so wormwood loses extra sanity by killing a plant that was just planted but it would be a pretty meaningless change. as for eating plants it was probably more of a balancing reason rather than a lore reason because it would be an odd decision to make a character that can farm much more easily and then insentivise players to have a carnivirous diet, especially before the farming update where wormwood planting seeds in the ground was much better in comparison
@@pineapple995 fair enough
I didn't knew as a worm main! Cool as heck!
Not sure how applicable this is to real game except with maybe kelps, but cool nontheless
most applicable are with trees cause they have 2 stages of death. The chopping and the digging. so like with a team of mobs and shoveling its like multiple loss. Its more just interesting things
pvp against wormwood: burn the forest
At least he doesn’t loose sanity from chopping burnt trees in dst
how do you even find this bro
Wormwood has the best sanity management out of all characters because of this. A handful of seeds and a torch is all you need to control your sanity bar
Uhhh d-did you just light a fire inside of a barn ? You have good ventilation in there i hope
Nah it's outside is next to the wood pile I showed first
@DVGMedia1 from how you pointed the camera it looked like an indoors area
He would not survive a day in Canada
wormwood in hamlet: instant heart attack after pig guard hits weevole on field full of grass plants

I find the tree boring, which is worst of all :/ I was hoping for something like Willow's tree - a lot more gamechanging interactions with Abi (her main gimmick), that you can choose from or just all together ignore. But for there to be a more interesting choice. And I don't mean "stronger" when I say gamechanging, I just mean different. Oh well
they had a lot of ideas but it's kind of hard to make something different without completely breaking everything. like some characters have trade-off skills that make them play differently but it's not like overpowered. The thing is just that Wendy is too simple to really change up all too much any different changes to her will make her into a completely new character because her entire kit is Abigail. It's kind of why I wanted to go with the different Bastian kind of setups like they could have kept a Gestalt Abbey as like a secondary branch of the lunar side and then have like the Bastion Abby which is the one that I suggest and then have like two other forms for the shadow side
man my invetntory is so full DVG: how full?
It could be more but it's also less now because they patched the mole stuff
I like th Beard's videos too, but ever since i found yor channel its been a breath of fresh air. Love the simplicity of your mascot design along with the tips as my wife and I dive back into DST!
When is her skill tree supposed to be released
WRONG, wilson using a sleep dart on you deals even less damage
If I reach the point where I raise my smallbird to a teenbird I would be insane to attack it so of course I didn't know that
I was right !!
Dvg u are so cute i hope u understand i wanna kiss u so much also ur videos are really interesting and i like hearing u talk PARASOCIAL QUOTA REACHED (Parasocial half-jokes aside I think you're awesome >:D (I'd still kiss u if u let me though- (metaphysically, as one does
baps you
With my pfp this looks like such a troll comment actually but I really mean it thank u for sharing videos i like them !!!
I never knew this because 1. Who the hell raises tallbirds 2. If you do, why would you attack your own child
Still say they all do 0 under the right circumstances
Wait, you are saying that when teenbirds start to starve, they don't attack players on their own? That is strange, I thought they did that when I tried to raise them a few months ago
If you have enough speed boost and time it just right while standing close enough to the edge of Dragonfly's range zone you could take 1 dmg from the overheat and then leave the zone to have Dragonfly fly away and thus only doing 1 dmg to the player. And I would argue that overheating counts because Firefly is the one causing it.
Well it's more about the dedicated attack action Taking the overheat would not count Some people would say monkies throwing poop should count since it's an attack but it's an attack ment to only hit sanity
Does Willow get damaged by dragonfly's fire attack?
No
Dude I just saw this pole
See
I like how Terra is perpetually leaning forward. Like she's really leaning towards the viewer to make sure we're paying attention
this is fake, those wholesome birds are harmless. What really happend is that kid is allergic to birds
Honestly for his skill tree I want his tree to be more party tricks that are eh but situationally good at the same time. Like, a balloon sword. Attacking an enemy would pop it does like 1 damage to the mob and yourself but panics the mob for a few secs.
"Firmly grasp it!"
Such a great video!
