This should have happened in the 80's or 90's. Maybe because they never sold out the hall snubbed them for so damn long. Ray Thomas should have seen this in his life time.
The fact that it took that long to finally induct them - is incredibly ridiculous. One of the most influential bands in rock history. Top 5 of all time.
Ann gets it. (And so do I.) Many in the audience aren’t connecting to Ann’s reference of Moody lyrics during her introduction. Ann may be a bit too smart for the room. MB fans were not cultish, but they were, and continue to be, fiercely loyal. Good job Ann. Thank you Moodies.
For someone as iconic as Anne Wilson to say this about the Moody Blues shows that she is a true fan and that they have been icons way before they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
It must have been hard for the Moody Blues to show up and accept an award that they had deserved for the past 25 years and were repeatedly overlooked from receiving.
If you hear their acceptance speech, it looks like they don't really care or don't have real idea about the award. Note that in UK these kind of awards are pointless and not really something very big or popular like in USA. Radiohead and Dire Straits also didn't care about the awards by not coming (only a few members attended).
@@tonygaramella7312 So many folks have yet to be inducted. The Marvellettes, Chic, Olivia Newton-John, New Edition. Sadly both Chic & The Marvelettes each lost a Member. Tony Thompson (Chic), and Gladys Horton, Wanda Young, and Georgia Dobbins.
I LOVE what Ann Wilson Has to say about their music. I wonder if she wrote that speech herself, because it sounds like she did, And she is a brilliant woman on so many levels, that I now want to totally immerse myself in the Moody blues
I missed this ceremony but my sister & I fell in love with heart back when I was 18 , no we don't blame the famous people we loved to watch & listen to on the radio. Iheart radio 93.1 Baltimore MD.
The music and the art of Justin Hayward and The Moody Blues are such a pivotal piece of my life that I named my son after Mr. Hayward. I could not think of a better tribute to one of the most influential artists in my life than to honor him and his art by naming my son Justin. My Justin was raised listening to his namesake. I used to listen to Nights and Love of My Life by Queen when I would feed him. I am proud to say my Justin is a fan of the wonderful artist and The Moodies that he was named after. Thank you, gentlemen, for your artistry, your creativity and your music for all of the truly great memories of my life that you were the soundtrack playing in the foreground, never in the background.
My best college buddy asked me to be a groomsman in his wedding in August 1979. He and his wife named their only son Justin John. After you know who, of course, and their Blue Jays album.
This is a fuckfest on who when and the rest. But this band is in a class of itself. And to be inducted by Ann who was one of the first female rockers is just wonderful to me. Wonderful vid and thank you!
Thanks for the post. I've never seen this part of their induction. Ann really nailed it. I can see the guys twitch a little...but hey, it's all true. We were all touched. As one of them said in the great mid 90's Documentary, ( I think it was Justin) we asked all of the right questions in our songs but we never said that we had the answers. I greatly enjoyed this. Thank you.
Ann was talking directly to people like her and telling a story to Justin and the band. This was very much a, if you get it then hang out for the ride but if you don't know then please sit back and be respectful while I appreciate someone important to me.
It was so cool when she mentioned Writer/Satirist Tom Wolfe (RIP). I read Two Of His Books. The Bonfire Of The Vanities and A Man In Full. He was one of the very few writers who still continued to do his work on a Typewriter. He had his clothes designed by a Tailor and he always stood out in Public. He even did an Essay about Phil Spector calling him The Tycoon Of Teen.
Just like with Yes and ELO, inducting them after an important band member had died, only because somebody on the selection committee didn't like their music, was an insult.
I think it was 2 things: 1) The ceremony was very long due to the egregious amount of time dedicated to Bob Jovi. I imagine he was a bit fed up and tired by that point, must be thinking why the put the band full of men in their 70s last? 2) I think the honour/title genuinely means more to him than the event. He seems like he takes it seriously, perhaps too seriously. He seems to have contempt for being there and possibly for the fact that most people there aren't even actual fans. It probably feels rather fake. He's talked before about how European people don't take the RRHOF seriously and I think he secretly believes that way too.
I interviewed him and John in 2006. He’s a very humble guy and gets embarrassed when complimented. I think he was tired but Also embarrassed by hearing Ann Wilson giving him very high praise.
The Moody Blues, transcend Rock n' Roll. They are an orchestral, emotionally-charged, inspirational group of fine musicians, poets, and troubadours. Um.... Kinda sucks that they cut out the acceptance speech.
What was the problem inducting the Moody Blues then, why now? Is the Rock and Roll committee waiting for all band members to perish, the have a few members already which contributed to their music. Shame on the Rock and Roll hall of fame for waiting to the last minute.
Prepare the Way for the Return of our Messiah, He will Pray to our Father, for us to Have His Spirit, make a Home Within us, and be our Teacher, and Comforter, Forever, in the Bible book of John, chapter 14, verse 26... Please be Comforted, and Taught, Forever, by our Fathers Spirit... Peace will Come...
What was Denny Laine doing there? The Moody Blues were inducted , far too late , for their music after Denny Laine had left The Moody Blues that Denny Laine was in were not the group that got the award so he should not be there.

Ann contacted the RRHOF and asked to do this. There's a video of her answering questions and the subject came up. This speech was probably written by Ann herself and it definitely came from her heart.
That’s too harsh. Some of their songs are not rock, but some of them definitely ARE rock, such as: The Voice, Singer in a Rock ‘n Roll Band, Story in Your Eyes, Lost in a Lost World, Blue World, Top Rank Suite, Question, Shadows on the Wall. And some are just plain interesting: Out & In, Meet Me Halfway, Dear Diary, Wildest Dreams, Never Comes the Day, Sooner or Later, Going Nowhere.

Great introduction with just one nit to pick. Rock is both Louie Louie AND The Moody Blues. Primal expression AND flights of fancy.
Saw Ann in December she still sounds amazing!

Moody blues is a great music
Would have been in the HOF 20 years ago, at least!
Finally the donkeys who run this show admitted one of the greatest bands ever into the music panorama. Better late than never!

Agree. Unfortunate since Ray Thomas died about 4 months before this.
I cannot believe Bad Company is still not in. Paul Rodgers voice alone is phenomenal!!! WTH?????

Okay John Mellancamp sells 20 million and is inducted. Moody Blues sells 70 million before inducted
In 1974 they had already sold 70 millions !!!
Substantive rock.
Ann Wilson, when Heart Will get their own throphy? They deserve! !!
Heart were inducted into the RRHOF in 2013. It’s on YT.
Top 10 of all time! Long overdue! Better late than never, although true is inappropriate!
I hadn't seen this video yet so my comment is late, thank you justin hayward for your musical excellence
Love Ann's speech. She gets the Moodies. As far as the R&RHOF - It's about damned time. It should have been while Ray Thomas was still with us
Hit hard and go way deep ;)
Everything changed when I saw the Moody Blues live in Europe!
Justin looks like he is at a funeral. He probably felt slighted that it took this long.

Testify Ann
oh hell yeah
What about Clint Warwick?
Hey Rock & Roll Hall of Fame why the hell did it take soooooo long, for you to get your acts together to Induct them?
Because they had to induct a bunch of rappers first, more deserving.
@@Faltor895 I can’t help thinking it may have something to do with the r&r hof being something of an American institution
It’s a travesty it took this long. The hall is irrelevant……..the hall needs bands like this. Not the other way around.
Why so late?
Isn't Life Strange......finally in.
*WHERE'S PAT BENATAR? CAROLE KING?*
Carole I believe is in as a songwriter, not a performer, at least not yet. Benatar, ur right : put her in!!!
Can't stand King.
It's a joke that it took this long that's why I've always said the hall of fame is a bad joke it's biased and a farce
Terrible it took so long..... F’in Madonna and rap dribble gets in-not even rock n roll. Well it’s now 2020 where the hell is Jethro Tull, ELP ?
the cosmic cat was out of the bag

But she was the one for the job
28 years to late should of happened back in the 90's
This is not the Anne Wilson I remember between 1974-1983. This is not the Moody Blues I remember between 1966-1976.
Time happens.
Waaaaaaayyyy too late
tough reading all that...
Over the last 5 years - Moody Blues, Yes, Rush
WHAT THE F*** TOOK SO LONG????
RRHOF remains a joke.
