Ethiopia's Alarming Creation of a New Country

  • Ethiopia has been abuzz with rumors of a new war - which would be Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's fourth in just five years. A shocking number no doubt, but to Ethiopia, there’s something the country needs desperately, something it considers almost existential, one critical, missing ingredient to realize its full economic potential: access to the ocean.
In exchange for a 50-year lease on a 20km strip of land around the Gulf of Aden port of Berbera, Somaliland would get shares in Ethiopia’s national airline and more importantly a landmark recognition of their existence by a United Nations member. By setting this precedent, becoming the first nation to acknowledge Somaliland’s independence, Ethiopia would be effectively creating a new country.

Somaliland is not a new country
Somaliland was a british protectorate that became the 17th African country to be granted full independence on June 26, 1960, but within days it was annexed by Somalia.
However, after years of occupation marked by persecution and genocide, Somaliland reclaimed its sovereignty on May 18, 1991 based on its original boundaries at the time of independence.

Don't lie! Lies will never take you anywhere. The truth is that it was NOT annexation. It was an agreement between both sides to unite the Somali people. There was no genocide either. The number of people who died in Mogadishu alone as a result of the civil war is much higher than those who died in the North (Somaliland).

You're a liar ! The Republic of Somaliland is not a new country. It's as old as Ancient Egypt, the Land of Punt and Queen Hatshepsut. It had always had a distinct, unique, separate existence in history and was not at any time a genric part of what's called Somalia. In the modern Colonial times, it was more than a Century a British Protectorate while Somalia was an Italian Colony. Somaliland attained formal independence from Britain on June 26, 1960. It immediately secured a Seat in the United Nations and was recognised by 35 countries. But, 5 days later under strong Somali ambitions and irredentist emotions to unite all the Somali territories in the Horn of Africa and create Great Somaliland, Somaliland sacrificed its separate independence and joined ex-Italian Somalia and together formed the Somali Republic. But, unfortunately, this Unity which carried the seeds of failure from the beginning due to short-sighted regional and tribal interests failed after 30 years and a destructive war between Somalilaand and Somalia which eventually ended with the collapse of the Somali Republic in 1991. Somaliland, then, with the overwhelming support of its people declared withdrawal from the failed Union, restored the status quo as a formerly independent state on its former borders. Since 1991, Somalilanders have built a full-fledged independent, peaceful, democratic and developed country, witnessed to and applauded by the International Community.

So he wanted Eritrea to benefit from Ethiopia so he made us landlocked to make us dependent on Eritrea . That's one of the main reasons why Amharas hated him!He also didn't want to be dominated by Isayas under united Ethiopia so he gave away Eritrea without a fight! I mean what country gives recognition to a country that claims its own port? We never had an Ethiopian leader since Mengistu. Meles was an ethno-fascist who used Ethiopia as cover to steal, and planned for a greater Tigray state hegemon by adjoining part of Eritrea with Tigray after removing Isayas Afwerki.

Somaliland was the only country that gained independence on June 26, 1960. On July 1, 1960 Somaliland unified with what was called Somalia Italiano. This union was never ratified. After human rights violations against the population of Somaliland, the Somalilanders regained their lost independence on May 18, 1991.
The Italians never gave independence to Somalia.
So technically Somalia is a ghost country which has never had its independence and does not have a limited and recognized territory on the side of Ethiopia and Kenya. The only border that exists is with Somaliland.
Shame on you Somalis who want to misappropriate and lie about the history of the Republic of Somaliland.

Ethiopia is not seeking to create a new state. Instead, the people of Somaliland are seeking independence to establish their own state. It is believed that they deserve their own state. Ethiopia is peacefully pursuing access to the sea. Ethiopia's Prime Minister has never stated that he would use force to achieve this goal. However, he emphasized the critical importance of sea access for the survival of the country. If peaceful means of achieving this goal are not successful, the people of Ethiopia may be compelled to rebel against the blockade, potentially resulting in unnecessary devastation.

Evil and illogical mindset, abiy fresh out of comitting the tigray g*nocide and currently dealing with OLA and FANO conflict would be an absolute fool to start a, in your eyes a necessary battle for land that does not belong to them. Let me explain:
If abiy were to begin a foreign war, this would only encourage independence movements in his own country.
If abiy tried starting a war, the ogaden region occupied by ethiopia would not allow this, he has no regional stronghold anywhere near somaliland. As it is all somali territory for hundreds of miles.
Furthermore, this would lead to all somalis uniting.
If abiy tried starting a war, he would open himself to massive scrutiny from the western countries. Which have very strong ties to somalia. Especially following ethiopias foolish decsion to join brics. Which only draws them away from allyship and only increases scrutiny.
It would be a career ending decision for abiy to start any sort of conflict on any somali 🇸🇴 land.
He would have better luck invading the southern portion of eritrea. But even that would be condemed to the highest degree! Any expansionary attack from ethiopia will lead them to be sanctioned to the likes of iran and russia.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this matter based on political and historical facts about Somaliland
As you said Somaliland has been Independent country emerged with Somalia
For unification .Somaliland undeniably is never been happy with the political marriage between the two independent countries and withdrew from the union because of the marginalization
According to African union charter says respecting colonial boundaries is valid for Somaliland case
Somaliland case is very unique and not opening pandora box for other African Nations to change status quo
This quid pro quo deal absolutely is beneficial for the two countries in a long time economic development regardless of Somali’s unrealistic wishful thinking

HISTORICAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN SOMALIAND AND ETHIOPIA 🇪🇹

  • @waab4314
    @waab4314 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yes, many African leaders and communities fought against colonialism throughout history. The resistance against colonial powers was widespread across the continent.
In the 16th century, the Somali leader Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi, also known as Ahmad Gran, led a notable resistance against the Portuguese and Ethiopian Christian kingdom. His campaigns were significant in the Horn of Africa and are remembered for their impact on the region.
During the colonial period, European powers often made territorial decisions without regard to the existing ethnic and political landscapes, which has had lasting effects on the countries involved. For example, the Ogaden region, which has a significant Somali population, was handed over to Ethiopia by the British after World War II, leading to ongoing tensions and conflict.
Ethiopia was serving European colonial against for rest of Africa.

There is no such thing as Somaliland. There is just a one sub-clan in two cities and a criminal cult movement. Majority of the people in northern Somalia are not part of that mess. the situation of Somali galbeed's (Ethiopia's somali region) and Northern Somalia are not comparable. Somali regions in Ethiopia are people and land that were never part of the collective Habashi history, ethnicity or culture but were given to them by the British and never accepted it. Somaliland is just a collection of bandits who took advantage from the failures and lack of government so they can play king and the whole thing is built on lies and false history.
Ethiopia had access to two ports in Somali, in Puntland and Berbera as well two ports in Kenya and one in Djibouti so ''access to the water'' was never an issue but for your president to go and sign a deal with a two bit criminal gang in front of the world is a shame only reflecting on your country and truth be told the only one destroying Ethiopia is the Lunatic you chose to elect and I for one pray the mad man that god grant him time to carry on the good work. Somali government always maintained their position in that they are not against giving Ethiopia port access but I guess that is not going to happen bc today most of the population are even against that.
I would't normally care about the situation between the different Ethiopian tribes, not my fight, Amxaar, Tigray, Oromo and all the little qabiil like Afar, Gambela etc are all the same to me, all are amxaar ama xabashi to me, no difference but since Ethiopia behaved in the way it has, today I support any group that works towards the destruction of Ethiopia as an entity.

Then, Jan.1st, 2024 came the horror news of him claiming he made a deal with one of the clans of Somalia. It is his choice to ruin the relationship that might have produced a real change in Horn of Africa.

This is one of Africas greatest disaster if come into fruition. It’s increasingly becoming aware that the continent is silently going through a revolution among the youth who won’t tolerate the old ways and leaders who have been governing them. Which is the perfect opportunity for the Pan African mindset to be instilled which it has and is expanding through the continent at a rapid rate.
However if Africa fails to unite, WHEN these colonial borders begin to change you’ll run the risk of the continent becoming completely decentralized with over 100+ ethno states each being susceptible to foreign powers who will exploit and sponsor these various independence movements using the secular tribal differences as there foreign policy to secure agreements in resources.
And that would be detrimental to the continent and very real possibility there already trying with Cape independence.

Until 2004 when Somalia went to Kenya to leave a central Somali government and instead become a Federal State called Federal Somalia. Therefore, they are the separatist who failed as a government and started breaking into several states. This was the reason African Union wrote a report in 2005 that Somaliland remains a country that Independent whilst a Transitional government was declared for the New Federal Somalia created in 2004 then US and it’s allies with Amisom in 2017 are still supporting it because it is still not fully functioning past Mogadishu.

@@okene true but Somaliland and Somalia are all related to eachother their tribes go back to Aqeel ibn Abi Taalib who was a companion of the prophet Muhammad عليه السلام . It would only cause even more division if they became their own country and more conflicts. Even somalilanders disagree amongst themselves whether secession is the right move. However they bring very valid points to the table about how they run their country and how they’ve been doing good on their own. A peaceful solution, however, will only be possible if both sides come to the table on talking terms. It seems like Somalia undermines the greatness of Somaliland and what they are capable of accomplishing and that is the biggest threat to Somalia … itself. Ethiopia’s aim is unclear as well, with the right amount of division and chaos it could very well invade Somalia as a whole but it must deal with its internal conflicts first.

Meles Zenawi tried to achieve by invading Mogadishu in 2007, and that invasion ended in humiliating defeat (simply because one Somali warrior is equal to 10 million Ethiopian warriors) This can never happen and Ethiopia is committing a suicide and its aggression is dead on birth

Oh no I hope Ethiopia doesn’t go to war with Somalia. Somaliland is part of Somalia so there no point going to war with this country. These people are tough and will unite as soon as Ethiopia comes into their territories. We went to war with Somalia and it also didn’t end up well for us Americans. We got the hell out of there. However we do share a better relationship with them today.

Somaliland isn’t a country it’s a state within Somalia. We are all the same besides clans. We don’t need foreigners trying to break us up.

Ethiopia knows Somalis and what they are. We are waiting for a good leader. When it comes to war, she knows who we are. When we see them, what will happen? Every Somali is waiting when they find out. Today, every Somali has an AK 47 in their home. Remember 2007 and 1977 and 1964 and Ahmed Gurey who taught them to eat raw meat

Please 🙏 know the his history of Somaliland before calling it a breakaway region. The British 🇬🇧 Somaliland is not the failed Somalia 🇸🇴 Italy 🇮🇹.

It is somalia.their internal issue should be resolved by themselves and as such ethiopias futile attempt to score some ill gains goes against the african union stand which ethiopia is the founder.
