I purchased a 73 satellite 4 door ex Colorado Highway Patrol car in 82 at auction. It was 400 4 Barrell equipped with goodies. There were 5 for sale that day and 2 "parts" cars that were 440 powered. The 440 cars blew up during pursuit and not deemed worthy of repair. The trooper told me 400 cars were preferred in B and C body cars due to repeated 440 failures. So, in fact, I did see a factory 440 patrol car from Chrysler built in 73. Special order??? Great report!
Just finished restoring an original 1977 Monaco police car, it was a labor of love, you found a really rare and valuable police car! Hope you restore it back to original there are not many left (after dukes of hazard)
Dart or Valiant A38 with a 360...that would be a keeper, too. For those who don't know, the fuel pump body is special on the cop cars. The upper section is more narrow to allow the oil cooler return, which is basically a hollow bolt, to go in at the rear bolt location on the timing cover/fuel pump anchor location. To have one rebuild using modern materials (ethanol kills the old diaphragms) is about $200
Very cool. I have the exact car. I found mine in Nevada. Mine is painted beige. I’m totally restoring it and hope to have it finished next Spring. Great and rare. Mine has holes on both sides of the qtr panels. I guess it had two antennas. Please do a follow up video once you have it cleaned up and running 👍👍👍👍
Our Drivers Ed was an unmarked state police car. It was a smooth riding car. Students in my class had a pool for whoever could get the highest speed before the instructor noticed. I got up to 72 in a 55, I think the pool was taken by 78.
Original brake pads and shoes were sintered metal. They work very well, but are loud. NOS could be found in dealer inventories not too long ago. These days are probably long past.
I guess that was the thing they did for some b&w cars. My '71 Fury III was an NJSP unit, and same thing. They used the vinyl top trim around the Dutchman panel to separate the b&w colors
Those cars are almost extinct you never see them. I'm glad you got it to save it. Are they made stronger underneath because I know they are unibody construction.
All hubcraps are useless, they are nothing but decoration, if they don't hold the wheels on then what,..? Even a bumper sticker is more useful ( engine covers..! that's something different again) If you want the car to look LAME throw wheelcovers on...yuck
I wonder why they didn't just shoot the black white instead of painting the whole car. That thing is really cool. Does it have a Sure Grip? Engine still runs great!
Interesting that the state of California re painted the cars before they were sold. Here in Michigan, years ago but not anymore, if you bought one of our state police cars the buyer was responsible for having it re painted within a stipulated time frame, at their expense.
Hello I have also a coronet like yours I search parts like the inner fenders and battery tray but can't find these parts can u send me some pictures of them ? Or a chance where I can buy them ? Or from which cars are the same ? That would be awesome
The 100amp alternator uses the same voltage regulator. Those Chrysler regulators are very universal and simple, can be used with pretty much any externaly regulated alternator.
@Ross046 I was once told that cars with rear defrost came with the big alternator. I remember as a kid my Mom's 76 Cordoba had one. I had a Dodge wrecker with the big alternator too, but that's just because it was already on the donor 440 from a New Yorker.
@@johneckert1365 Had a W200 Crewcab that came out of Fire service. Had a 140 amp Motorola alternator. That had a very different VR. I swapped out that mess for the regular 100 amp alternator system(on a 440). Kept melting down stock VR's. That's when I found out about Mopar HD regulators. Even my starter/alternator guy didn't know. All the books/computers only showed the one. It was probably 20 years ago. I'd have to dig deep in my memory and parts stash to come up with a number.
@Ross046 Wow that's crazy. I'm a Dodge guy and a junkyard guy and never heard of the HD VR. I have a stock 78 New Yorker at my yard with big alternator, I should go look at the VR just for fun. Chances are it was replaced with a standard one. I've seen those big Motorola alternators on older ambulances back in the day
I have questions about this vehicle I have one that identical pretty much same model number but mine is from Nevada! Is there I contact you and more information ?
I don't know where you got your information that it was illegal to sell a black and white car in California, but you are wrong, They were sold all the time at police auctions in black and white with just the decals and equipment removed, and many times, you could still make out the outline of the original agency across the trunk as all they did was remove the gold lettering. Also, even if that were true, they would have just shot the roof and doors black and called it good, they sure as hell would not have changed the color of the car and even painted the inside of the door jambs. Law enforcement agencies did not put a lot of money into turning these things over as 90% of them were sold to cab companies and security outfits anyway and they were sold on the cheap. They would leave it to the buyer to repaint the car, and most that were repainted ended up going to someplace like Earl Scheib or Miracle for a cheap paint job. After a few years as a taxi or security company vehicle, they would then hit the wrecking yard. I don't think that you have a CHP car either. Given that the door jambs are painted and the green color of the car, I'm guessing it was ordered by a Sheriff's Dept or possibly have been a detective's car for a PD. As for production, of course you would schedule them all at the same time in a special run, as it would make no sense to have interspersed these in regular production, especially when such a large percentage of these became cop cars anyways.
Very hard to replace.
Cars like that deserve to be kept alive and as they're suppose to be, keep is updated 💪🏻
Always loved this body style, and there's just something about ex-police cars
Cop tires, cop shocks and a 440 Inch plant...!!!
Great family car! The one you told your mom and dad to get as it’s a 4 door but don’t tell them them about the rest ha ha
These cars were wrecked on 80s TV shows many times
A Roscoe special?
Remember that Kurt Russell film Used Cars? They painted a few cop and fire issue cars in that to sell them off ha ha
Awesome find! Can't wait to see how you restore it!
Cherry the body and interior, paint it dark green for the Hunter look or brown for the Walking Tall look.

Ooh one of my favorites love them my uncle had one as well not a cop car though 318 but loved it
Thanks for sharing!!! I love these old Mopar Police cars!!!
Love the police cars. My favorite cars of all time are police cars. Keep ‘em coming.
This deserves total restoration to original Black and White.

Chrysler made the best damn Police Pursuit Vehicles of all time, I know, I had a few, and own one now!!! Mopar Nate Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Love it, Tom. A rare beast given how many gave their lives in the interest of campy TV shows.

My home town sheriffs department had 1975s with 400 4 barrels. Some genus decided to plug the secondaries to save fuel. That’s a nice car find.

The youtube algorithm brought me here. I'm not stalking you. These cars are special ordered for CHP. Can't wait to see yours.
That’s funny! I just started following this channel. @@markg7030

Love these old cruisers
Pulled one from a yard in 2020 , 77' dodge Hipo 360 dana sonoma county sheriff cruiser no cage.
Yeah, this was my first car with similar rusty green. MIne didn't have a power cracked dash, but the wornout seats yeah.
I noticed the Crew cab shoebox in the background 😊
And yes my spelling is not the greatest this morning 😮
Parts truck for my other one
It's not bad at all i would clean it up and drive it just the way it is.
great find bud!!!!
What a find!
Very neat car.
In 76-77-78 Memphis cops had blue dodges with lights and a badge on the side
Desperately needs a new tan dash cap asap.
Once talked to a former CHP officer, he stated that the 75-78 B-Bodies where the best cop cars he drove throughout his 30 years career.
Chrysler really had these cars sorted by then.
Haha sound your alternator start making a lot of noise as on my 75 Fury ^^ . Your car is purely awesome.
Thanks! Will have to look at the alternator.
Love the weird and wonderful. Keep up the great work.
Awesome Car 🚔🙋🏻♂️👍
Great cars I had a 1978 monaco loved it
Got a lotta work ahead of you. Especially the interior.
That’s why they invented Mexican blankets
Very cool, any interest in restoring it to black and white?
i love these cars.
- what a score * very jealous bro 🙂
Original brake pads and shoes were sintered metal. They work very well, but are loud. NOS could be found in dealer inventories not too long ago. These days are probably long past.
The interior looks about the same as my 78 Dodge Monaco. The only difference is mine has a front bench seat.
I guess that was the thing they did for some b&w cars. My '71 Fury III was an NJSP unit, and same thing. They used the vinyl top trim around the Dutchman panel to separate the b&w colors
You lucky bugger that is my favourite of the big Mopars love that year and style
Those cars are almost extinct you never see them. I'm glad you got it to save it. Are they made stronger underneath because I know they are unibody construction.
For 1976 this would have been one of if not the fastest American car made. Is there anything extra special about the suspension in these?
Heavy duty everything, front and rear bars, they handled quite well.
Cop dog dish hubcaps were known as "onion-skins" back in the day and held a special "dare me" place in street racing. Know why?
All hubcraps are useless, they are nothing but decoration, if they don't hold the wheels on then what,..? Even a bumper sticker is more useful ( engine covers..! that's something different again) If you want the car to look LAME throw wheelcovers on...yuck
junkmanny "onion- skins " lol really maybe to see how far they go flying off into the crowd...Bonus Action 🎬
That car is absolutely correct!!! congratulations on your find!!! seems like it’s missing the correct slide and cop car wheels?
I wonder why they didn't just shoot the black white instead of painting the whole car. That thing is really cool. Does it have a Sure Grip? Engine still runs great!
Open rear - they didn’t trust cops with sure grips, too easy to spin the car and not like they needed it for snow traction in California.

They used these in the final
seasons of ChiP’s too.
Are you going to repaint it black and white??
Probably just drive it as is for now
Awesome car
I have one but eureka Nevada cop car it identical but mine is blue
I would to get one of these even a 1977/78 4dr Monaco/fury will do
This one might be for sale for the right amount.
Love these when in Dukes of Hazzard! How many did they crash?
Unfortunately not enough, as this one hasn’t been made into a Hyundai Elantra yet.
How this type of bumpers were machined and manufactured ? Any one has a videos for these chrome metal bumpers manufacturing process ?
I Love Coronets 🙂
Mine was blue and white
Are any of these vehicles for sale? I can’t tell you the last time I saw one of these on the road
Hello I have also a coronet like yours I search parts like the inner fenders and battery tray but can't find these parts can u send me some pictures of them ? Or a chance where I can buy them ? Or from which cars are the same ? That would be awesome
Try Wildcat Auto Wrecking in Sandy Oregon.
Seems to be alot going on around the ignition control box on the firewall. Does it have a different voltage reg to match the high output alternator?
The 100amp alternator uses the same voltage regulator. Those Chrysler regulators are very universal and simple, can be used with pretty much any externaly regulated alternator.
@@johneckert1365 they made a different VR for the high amp alternators. The only visual difference is they are little thicker. Good luck finding one.

You have to crash it into a tree (like most of these cars did on old TV shows and movies) to authenticate it's a '70s police car.😉..
Just do all the maintenance work on it, and use it as it was been ... A daily driver!
I have questions about this vehicle I have one that identical pretty much same model number but mine is from Nevada! Is there I contact you and more information ?
Sure - Tom at rocket resto dot com is our email
Do you know where to find the rubber piece that goes around rear license plate for 4 door fury and monaco 1977
Sorry but I don’t, very hard to find as I’m sure you know. Maybe try wildcat auto wrecking?
That is one bad bitch
Are parts still available for these cars?
Yes some are, they don’t make reproductions but used stuff is still available.

And enough horsepower to chase a Prius- if it doesn’t wheeze and cough off of idle.
Money wasted.
Air wasted.
i would love to see this car in my driveway with my name on the pink slip. she is sweet.
