Field Repair! 1976 Dodge Coronet CHP 440 Cop Car Fix, Extensive Reliability Testing On Dirt

I love fixing kinda crappy old Dodges. I love big block B-bodies. And I love whipping cars around in a field. So on today's episode, let's combine these ideas and fix a retired California Highway Patrol car equipped with a 440 in a field. Is this as good an idea as I think it is? Oh, to be able to go back in time. My dad bought a 77 B body Fury (the "small" Fury, lol) 440 cop car in 1980 at a state fleet auction for $750. Nice condition at the time, and well maintained as most cop cars were. I had the pleasure of driving it home about 80 miles (following behind dad in his truck), so I proceeded to do a burnout whenever I took off from an intersection or Stop sign. Just nail the foot pedal, and instant tire smoke! Fun times!

The first car I ever bought back in 1978 was a '68 Chrysler 300, 2 dr. w/TNT 440, bucket seats, full console that had the factory vacuum guage mounted to it. One of those "I wish I had never sold it" stories.

Fantastic, thank you for this video. Definitely my favorite 4 door ever. The exact reason why I wish I had a bigger garage to have it next to the Satellite, even a 318 version would do. Too many of those have been crushed or left to rust away, on thing they were clearly very good at.

I had a '77 Gran Fury cop car years back. I soooooo badly needed that special 'bolt' for the oil cooler return line. Even back then I couldn't find one.
