  • As a dietitian I highly recommended all my clients to stay away from unhealthy biscuits that you buy from stores as they are high on refined sugar, refined flour and low quality oil. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy biscuits with your warm cup of tea. Try these homemade healthy super delicious and pure biscuits. They are very simple and easy to make. Have a look at the recipes of salty and sweet Oats and atta biscuits.
Oat and atta biscuits (cashew flavour- sweet version) :- without oven
    Ingredients:-
    1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup Oats flour (grind quick Oats )
1/2 cup pure desi ghee (clarified butter) either slightly cold or at room temperature
1 Cup jaggery sugar (gur )
    Pinch of salt
    10-12 chopped cashews
    3-4 tbsp Milk
    Method :-
In a bowl add wheat flour, Oats flour and ghee. Rub the mixture with hands until you get a sand like texture. Now add sugar, salt and chopped cashews. Mix again ...after this gradually add milk and prepare a dough. Don't kneed the dough. Bind it with soft hands. Prepare a log shape and rap the dough tin a foil. Keep the dough in the refrigerator for 20-30 min.
In between in a cooker add salt at the bottom ( add the amount of salt that will cover the entire base) now cover the cooker with the lid ( remove the whistle & rubber from the lid) switch on the heat & preheat the cooker on medium to low heat for 6-8 min.
After 30 min Take the dough out of the freezer and foil. Take a sharp knife and slice semi thin pieces
Take a Idli maker and grease the moulds with ghee. Place the biscuits in the moulds. Place the Idli stand in the pressure cooker ...cover with lid..cook on very low heat for 18-20 min. After 10 min take out & check if needed flip the biscuits...keep checking again. ( Every coking gas is difficult in terms of heat, hence checking in between is highly recommended) you can also bake it in oven. Bake in preheated oven for 20-22 min at 170c.
Enjoy these super healthy super tasty biscuits with your tea.

I made it just now. The dough was a bit crumbly when slicing it but I pressed the crumbles back together to form square pieces. Smells delicious, first time making cookies with ghee. It's almost like an ice box cookie. I made the sweet version, will try the jeera flavored savory version next time.

Hi Manju, have a few queries on the sweet version:
    1) instead of regular quick oats can steel cut oats be added? If yes, then how, should they be roasted a bit first or directly made into a powder. Asking as Steel cut oats takes longer to cook as compared to quick oats.
    2) which brand of quick oats have you used in this recipe
    3) can regular jaggery be replaced with crystallized palm jaggery ?
    4) can this be given to a 19 month old?

    Hi
I just wanted to share one thing if you are using this biscuits with tea then i suggest not use with tea with milk. Or simply I would suggest avoid putting salt in this biscuit. Suggesting this as this is healthy biscuits recipe.
    Everyone's comments welcome.
