Paramedic in 1978. Responded to a single auto crash. 19 year old boy hit a stone bridge abutment at 100 + mph. All we could smell was blood, alcohol, and car fluids. Cop was upset we didn't check for a pulse right away. Kid was face down on the pavement with both ears touching the road and brains coming out of open skull. Cop said, How do you know he is dead?" Trying to get him into a body bag was like pushing cooked pasta uphill.

That cop clearly wasn't the brightest crayon in the box.
The only ones that really get to me are the EMT/paramedic stories of horrendous accidents. First responders deserve SO much more recognition.

My mom told me a story about a guy who fell of his roof and landed on his feet, but broke both of his legs. Somewhere between the accident and the end of the surgery his bones shifted, probably permanently. He came home noticeably shorter.
Oh my god. I had to brush my teeth after that one about the woman who never brushed.

My mom is a respected nurse and has seen a lot but multiple times she has had to remove rotten sweaty and super old and neglected tampons from many women. She said it is what they call a code red and the smell is one of the worst things she ever smelled and she said you cannot describe it but death.
i hope that your mom is one of the nurses who does it and doesn’t shame these women, though. those nurses who can look past the “gross” things and focus on helping another person… they are the best

My first thought after reading the title was that you should never ask this question of any medical person.
I saw a good amount during my time doing hospital security, I'm glad I didn't deal with some of these.

I felt the first story in my soul
I'm only a senior in high school...but...about a week ago my mom and I had to go and take a stray cat to an animal hospital (our usual vet said that we could take him there but we would have to pay for it and be held responsible so we had to take him somewhere else) because *_HALF OF HIS FACE WAS LITERALLY DANGLING FROM HIS HEAD!_* My father was the first one who noticed and asked my brother if it was a leaf because that's what it honestly looked like and when he found out that it was his face he gave him some food and water as well as our old cat carrier. So as I'm sitting in the back seat I'm just kind of running my hand over the top of the cat carrier in an attempt to let him know that he wasn't alone while breathing shallowly from my mouth because his face was clearly infected and smelled like something had died (a part of me of kind of thinks it was gangrenous because of just how bad it smelled). They took him in and we gave them the cat carrier since we never use it anymore (one of our dogs gets motion sickness, our other dog we bring on a leash and hold when we get in the car, and our cat is really aggressive when it comes to being manhandled/stuffed into small places and my mom and brother are allergic to cats so it's just too much of a hassle so we just bring him in our collapsible dog cage since it's a bit bigger (but not too big since our dogs are yorkies) but we'll never know what happened since he's a stray and they don't inform people of what happens with strays unless they were contagious and could put other pets at risk so we don't know what happened...that being said while I want to hope that he's alright I don't really have very high hopes due to the smell and the shape he was in...it also kind of sucks because he was always coming to our house and stealing our cats food (although we occasionally fed the stray as well and made sure our cat ate) so we got pretty used to him...also he never once let me pet him and would only let my dad pet him occasionally but my dad said that when he was giving him food and water he was being really affectionate and rubbing up against him/cuddling and didn't even fight when being put in the cat carrier so it was pretty obvious how terrible he was feeling...I still want to be a vet and quite honestly this didn't change anything I just kind of feel bad for him...
Stories like these make me want to brush my teeth while showering...

The room of vomiting EMTs story sounds too cartoonish to be believable. Probably fictional.
you've clearly never vomitted around someone with a weak stomach. once in third grade i reversed my lunch onto my teacher and she did the same. then came the educational assistant and her special needs student. 4 people puked because I drank my milk too fast lol
