I remember a girl in my physics class senior year of high school casually mentioned that she “didn’t believe in oil changes” (wtf?) and our teacher, who used to work on cars, nearly had a heart attack and made her go to the parking lot and drive up to the nearest door so he could go check her oil. It was the thickest, darkest sludge he had ever seen. He offered to stay after school with her and taught her how to change the oil. He was a good dude

@@anntully-crook2430 I have earned my respect. I do everything they ask of me within my capabilities. I help with the house as much as I can, I earned all A's this past semester despite it being my first semester entirely online, and I never break rules or laws. I tell them where I'm going and who I am with even though I am under zero obligation to because I am an adult myself.
I should add as well that I'm 23. I do not need another adult telling me I have to earn respect when I have done more than enough to earn the respect I do have. So when my parents disrespect me and my privacy or my decisions or friends, I will call them out on it as disrespectful- always in as polite of a manner I can manage, but I refuse to let it happen. And then they try to say I am disrespectful for not letting myself be treated like I'm less than them.
Do not ever assume someone's position in life either. Do not assume they ever will be a parent. Do not assume they even have the ability to be. And do not assume their position is not abusive.

Also can have a strong cultural aspect. In Italy for one you didn't normally move from the parental home until you were married. If you're paying rent or board and working round the house (lawns, maintenance etc) and they're ok with that I can't see the problem.

I always thought the trope implied the idea person had a problem socially, more than economically. Especially if living in basement for some reason.

I'm 37 and have always lived with my momma. Before my brother passed away he lived with us too. We chose to do that because it makes more sense to maintain one household than multiple homes. Also, adult children not living with their parents was the norm until the mid part of the 20th century. Now it's seen as the adult children not being able to survive without their mommy and daddy. The majority of the children have a job and help support the home. Yeah some mooch but not all of us. Also, because the elderly are getting screwed financially so they can't survive on their shitty fixed income.

I have a few of these. I worked at a Family Dollar store and repeatedly had customers complain that things cost more than $1.
I had a customer that brought up an entire cart full of shopping and demand that I punch in the 12 digit SKU for each item 'because the laser on the scanner would give them cancer'. It's not a laser. It's not ionising radiation. Paper doesn't hold ionising radiation anyway.
When I worked at a car wash:
    Customers that:
    don't know what neutral is.
Don't know their car can't roll with their foot on the brake.
    Don't underatand touch screens.
    Don't understand credit cards.
Don't understand that if you leave your car in drive and drive through the wash in 10 seconds it's not going to be clean.

    Why don’t you want kids?
You gonna deny me being a grandparent?
    Let the name die?
Who’s gonna take care of you when you are old?
I just don’t want kids, call it selfish but they would absolutely ruin my lifestyle. I like kids in small doses, like my cousins kids, love those little guys, but then I get to go home. It’s awesome.
Trying to guilt me into giving you grandkids isn’t as effective as you seem to think.

This is the thing, some people just don't want kids. Which would mean if they DID have kids they wouldn't necessarily be the best parent if that makes sense.
Some people are too selfish for kids , and not in a bad way either.
Some people want to just enjoy what THEY want to do in their life. And having a kid means you have to make a lot of sacrifice and compromise and some people just aren't down for that.
It annoys me no end when people push for their kids to have kids. Go and Foster a child if you care for kids that much. Damn!

When I asked what happened her husband says that she ran it completely dry and she didn't tell him that the car needed oil because the light only came on when she was going around a turn. Needless to say, I was heartbroken. It was the first car I had ever bought on my own.

Love the story from UnraveledMind. I stayed in my parents house with my husband when he had to go to Texas to work and we paid all utilities and paid rent to my parents so they didn't lose their home and took care of their pets. We then bought the home next door and I spent a lot of time with my parents and took them to the stores and helped with errands. Then I took my dad to his doctor visits and helped with planning out his meds. They lived at my house after his knee surgery since I had less furniture and tile floors so he could get around easier and I could give him his loveknox shots and his pain meds. Then when he had a massive stroke from agent orange exposure in Vietnam I was his power of attorney and planned his care then his care facility. This then turned into me having to make the call to end support when he suddenly stopped breathing and was brought back but had been down too long. Then my mom moved into my home as well yet likes to say since she pays the internet and groceries that we cannot make it without her as an explanation as to why she lives with us. Sucks being an only child sometimes.

I'm sorry you are going through this. It doesn't sound like a very supportive environment. Maybe you can reduce contact with them. Not only this, but if they are not supportive and have this negative attitude, it might be a better idea to not talk to them too much about your private stuff. They don't sound very empathetic.
I'm assuming you somehow feel that because they are your family you can talk to them about things, but I think it's time to accept they don't care that much about your day to day feelings. It might be a better idea to find some friends that can really empathize with you or a loving partner.
Also, you're not required to listen to them complain all the time. Just find polite ways to reduce contact, such as: "Oh, I can't talk too much because I have to do some extra work for my job - work from home/ have some household chores I need to do/ I'm going out with friends/ I'm taking some classes at evening school because my job requires it" etc etc.

I’m imagining a lawyer, while trying to get his defendant off of a DUI or something alcohol related, calls “God” to the stand. The “God” in question is actually just a dude in a white robe, with a fake beard and long hair. He vouches for the defendant.
You’d probably get disbarred for that, but it would be hilarious.

I'm a little late getting to this video in 2023 but I hope somebody can see this. I work at a car dealership, been in sales for 5 years here. I hear nightmares from the service department daily. It is terrifying how common it is for people to have no idea they are required to change the oil regularly.
One of the most memorable instances happened shortly after I started. This grown man purchased a brand new Nissan Maxima Platinum about 2 years before I started in 2018. He put around 70k miles on it and the engine locked up. He was in the service department screaming at the top of his lungs to multiple service advisors, the service manager, the general manager, and one of the lube technicians about how he was going to "sue the ever-living shit out of your scam company and everybody in it" because he never once changed the oil. He claimed nobody had ever told him in his entire life that every vehicle requires regular oil changes.
Of course it was not covered under his extended warranty due to it being caused by lack of maintenance. Keep in mind that EVERY SINGLE CAR that I sell to ANYBODY, I bring up the Owner's Manual and bookmark the maintenance schedule and go over the chart with the customer. We are required to do this with brand new vehicles, but I choose to do the same for used cars as well. It's better to assume every customer is fucking stupid and reiterate everything no matter if they claim they already know or not.
That was the most memorable instance of it for me because I was absolutely stunned about the ignorance, but similar situations are so common I have lost count.

One of the dumbest yet funniest things happened in my science class…

‘Oh my GOD… is it still going to be BEATING?!?!’
Needless to say I just burst out laughing while she was like ‘what?…’
My science teacher was perplexed and equally concerned that she was being serious, he replied ‘Noooo..’ 😵‍💫🥴🤦‍♂️
Someone beside her had to justify why it wouldn’t be beating ‘Obviously not… it’s dead..‘
    She confusingly replied

it was a couple years ago and I was stocking shelves at Walmart (I still do that but different shift and different store). I was in infants and this customer asked me about a specific baby walker. I told her we didn't have anymore and ofc she asked me to check the backroom, which I do. ik people joke about going into the back and just twiddling their thumbs for a bit so they don't actually have to look for something (something I'm guilty of doing), but this time I legitimately went looking and found nothing. I come back out to tell her, and I see her trying to pry the display baby walker off the display to take home. I just stood staring at her in awe. she noticed I was watching her and nonchalantly asked me if she could take the display. "ma'am, not only does the display item not have a bar code on it to scan, but it is also strapped to the display as it is a display item."
she left and I never saw her again

Amazing deal on the 99 Nissan car!!; I once bought a Ford Expedition, Eddie ($50,000?) Bauer edition almost brand new, for $3000, it was about 4 years old at the time but the family were only part time residents of the country, basically pristine interior with leather seats, about 100k miles. The single problem it had, was that there was a one inch rusted spot on the side rook, that had rusted thru and needed repair. I had it repaired and the area painted matched to new condition, for $100.. They were selling it because gas prices had reached $3+ dollars and at the time(this was I guess, around 2007?), and the media scared everyone that the prices were likely to just keep on increasing, which they didn't. So I got a ridiculously great deal on this beautiful tank of an SUV. I could transport all 8 dogs I owned at the time, to their vet appt .s on a single trip. Their vet was an hour drive south on the interstate, so this SUVs was a Godsend. Three years later, during a yearlong period of exercising poor judgement, I traded it in when I bought a new car. That decision is among one of the several bad decisions I made during the course of my life. I would like to end this comment by helping anyone reading this avoid making the devastating mistakes I've made; offering my advice for anyone who may be in their early or middle adulthood: before making ANY important decision in your life: imagine that your present day self is standing at your future selfs' deathbed. Imagine that you look back and review your life, as you fill in the different various options of the decision which presently lies before you,, and consider how each one may affect the rest of your life. Don't allow your decisions to be rule by the myopic judgement of your ego. Your ego is limited to a very narrow scope and doesn't have the ability to factor in anything other than whatever it is focused on at any given moment. When you don't carefully consider your decisions; and delegate an important decision to your ego, it's like relying on a toddler to be in control of determining the rest of your life.

This is an advantage in modern cars with digital or partially digital dashboards. If the pressure of any one tire is low the digital part of the dashboard may automatically change to the tire pressure view so you'd know which ones are low and which ones are totally fine, leaving a pressure gauge to not be required.

On the day of court he showed up 10 minutes late...:
    - clearly drunk
    - clearly high
    - in a stolen car (he was late and didn't have a car so.....)
    - without a driving license
    - speeding and driving recklessly all the way
....and breaking just about every single traffic law you can imagine. Police chased him from the moment he stole the car and til he parked in front of the courthouse.

drove wreckers for a metro downtown tunnel. all those auto repair/maintenance idiots are out there in the wild. this stuff really happens. my favorite was always semi-truck drivers that thought 5 gals of diesel was enough to get to the terminal, until they started uphill exiting the tunnel and that 5 gals all puddled up in the fuel tank rear. we never had to say a thing--their buds on the CB radio did all the burning for us, especially the ones that were stuck in stopped traffic while we hooked up and towed him out. then he had to wait for his company maintenance truck to bring fuel out, disassemble his fuel system and prime the fuel pump. we even had repeat customers. duh.

Not a mechanic but a auto body and tech student at college. My neighbors (at the time) girlfriend had ridiculously bald tires. Straight up drag radial tires on a Toyota SUV. I thought she would get them changed soon and went through on my day. Maybe a month passes and I happen to look at her tires as I walk by. Wires showing, cracked sidewalls, you name anything bad on a tire the back tires had it.
I live in a rainy state so the next time I saw her I made a “subtle” joke about her tires. She looked like a puppy with wide eyes and didn’t get it.
I had to explain to her that driving on bald tires like that are seriously dangerous. Especially in the rain. She thought tires just got like that over time.
TLDR: had to explain to a 29,30 year old women that tires don’t last forever.
After that I was basically her mechanic at that point.

Lmfao the boomer vs millennial thing never gets old to me. My personal favorite (/s) quotes include:
“Don’t speak like you’re a rapper. People will think bad of you.” (Context: I use a lot of slang in face-to-face chat)
“You have such a good life now because you’re parents went to college. You’re ruining your kids chances of a good life if you don’t go.” (Context: I made the decision to not go to college because school has never been a safe environment for me. Irony: neither of their parents went to college *and* only one of my parents went to college)
“Millennials suddenly want everything to be okay and accepted. It’s brainwashing the kids; like there were no gay people when we were growing up and now there’s gays and transgenders and you can make up pretty much anything now.” (Context: I mentioned off-handedly that I was ace and non-binary. Irony: *my sister and me aren’t millennials*)
They’re wonderful people (the ones who said these things) they’re just a little... iffy about the weirdest things. They’re still loving and accepting and still support us and the other family members, but once in a while they go off on a rant.

it was RV cleaner fluid. which is the same colour, but a soapy material... so before the lines that fed the wiper motor and sprayed the windshield froze, they had managed to make their windshield a caked on, frozen, soap, salt(we salt roads) mud and basic road grime mix(various oils etc). it was like a really ugly finger painting, because they tried to wipe it off with their hands.

Grand Canyon commet....🤣 I deal with stupid questions/comments like that where i live. I can't help but give a stupid answer to their questions every time.
"Why is it hotter here than the town 15 minutes from here?"
    I tell them ....
" it's the elevation. We are higher than that town. We are closer to the sun..."
they buy it 100% of the time. 🤣 I'm terrible!

I love the story about the woman complaining that her kids are lazy because they are millennials...THEY'RE YOUR KIDS! YOU RAISED THEM!

Not so much what I was asked by a customer at work, but what I asked a customer. I work at an auto parts store and was on the phone with a commercial customer who needed a clutch set for a Mini Cooper. I asked him if it was an automatic or a manual 😂 We both went silent for a few seconds before I said, "Did I really just ask that?" We both busted out laughing at that point and the customer said, "At least you caught it before I had to say anything". Needless to say that specific customer has never let me live it down.
