    God I wish I had seen this. I was in Baltimore for a convention and snuck into John Hopkins and sat in on a lecture because I decided why not. I do have a degree in Criminology and have seen autopsies before so this was nothing new as they were looking at a body. Now, to be clear I didn't look like I belonged at all as everyone had lab coats on, or looked proper and I was in a tank top, cargo shorts, and a hat on backwards as I decided to be as frat as possible that day. As they were showing the body I noticed just a small gleam of metal, and I pointed that out. There was a bullet in the body, and the lecture stopped as they had to call the police in.
    The professor wanted to congratulate me for finding it, but then took in my appearance.
    "Are you planning to dress like that when you are a doctor?"
    "Do you really think I could be a doctor?"

    I'm not a native English speaker so would someone mind to explain me why it is common to say 'cadaver' instead of 'corpse'?

    • @peterchristensen8843
      @peterchristensen8843 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      No problem! :) (I know what it's like to learn another language, keep it up!) Cadaver is the medical word for a corpse, doctors say cadaver because it helps them focus on the medical process and not think too much about the person's previous life. The word corpse has emotion attached to it, the word cadaver is scientific and emotionless.

    Good grief! Despite having become fascinated by forensics after reading my uncle's text books, the story about the man who had suffered a shotgun blast up into his rectum REALLY got to me. I've seen corpses in every imaginable state and reviewed more than one autopsy, but that just hit me like a bag of hammers!

    Regarding smells, I worked as a Registered Dental Assistant for nearly 5 years before ending up disabled from a genetic disorder. The Dentist I worked for did just about everything including oral surgery, such as the removal of wisdom teeth. I really loved that job for the most part, and teeth and kind of neat. One of things that really got to me was when he’d have to cut through the bone to make room to remove the wisdom tooth, or cut the tooth itself in half and break it in order to get it out due to limited space, drilling into the bone and blood would create a smell and it smelled like fried chicken. My job just prior to working as RDA was as a Short-Order Cook and I made fried chicken every damn day, I was very familiar with that smell. I haven’t eaten fried chicken in 10 years, I just can’t.

    Autopsy doctor = Coroner
    I hate to be that person, but yeah, the title bothers me a bit. Still an entertaining selection of stories all the same!

    • @richardscarborough5353
      @richardscarborough5353 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Coroner's are not autopsy doctors. Coroner's are elected lay people who often do not have professional training, whereas medical examimers are appointed and have board-certification in a medical specialty. While a coroner may do an autopsy they are far from doctors.

    You know the people who do autopsies kind of have to be rather dark. I mean what sane person wants to deal with various forms and stages of death. But at the same time they have to be rather keen in order to find the cause of death. People can get PTSD just from witnessing death, but how strange is it that they want to cut open that dead person and do it on a daily basis. I mean is that fortitude or morbidity
