    Thank you, after ten years I finally open it for the first time (thinking it will be more tricky) to clean and replace thermal compound.
    Really clear instruction.

    Thank you so much! I just completely disassembled mine to clean it, changed the thermal paste, added ram and replaced the ssd for a ssd with more capacity.
    When I assembled it back it wouldn’t turn on, so I removed the ram and put it back in and it solved this issue. I am very happy, it is like a new computer and the temperature is now around 47 degrees Celsius on desktop.

    Just did this and all went well! Thank you so much for the very detailed instructions. It helped a great deal and saved me a lot of money. I replaced the thermal paste and it's a lot cooler now. Put everything back together and it booted like nothing ever happened.
    Thank you again!

    I opened my friend's GL552JX a month a go, and the fact that being a "gaming" laptop it doesn't even have a proper air in-take vent. That fan is blowing almost nothing cool outside, and the temps will hit 80C- ish while other laps hover at 65-70C (mine is a lenovo y50-70, he's old but still pumping)

  • @gummseLT
    @gummseLT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you so much, the video was very useful. However, for a simple clean is enough to stop at 6:08 . The unscrewed fan comes out nicely. Not necessary to detach all the wires.

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The cpu cooler is in the other side of the board. The good thermal paste have about 2 years of "live" after that it looses the ability to transfer heat from the cpu to the pipe, and start to harden. If you just clean the fan is about 60% job done. ;) it is a good think to change the thermal paste on both cpu and gpu.

    Thank you for this video. I managed to disassemble and reassemble my old laptop and not destroy anything 😅

  • @Privateer1981
    @Privateer1981 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video. I disassembled all just to find out the cooler wasn't that dirty, just a tiny thin layer of dust (2.5 years old laptop) . I brushed it clean, assembled it all back, and I am happy to check the laptop works! I was afraid I would miss something.

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a good idea to change the thermal paste. After more than 2 years it gets dry and loose its ability to transfer heat for the CPU to the cooler.

    • @Privateer1981
      @Privateer1981 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't change it, I didn't know I am supposed to. Is it that thing on top of the cpu? (revealed at 9:38) Is it really that important to change it?

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Privateer1981 Well the thermal paste is doing most of the work... it Absorb the heat from the CPU and give it to the cooler. If you gonna change it buy arctic MX-2 or MX-4. Don't buy cheap one. Clean the cooler and the CPU with ISO alcohol or similar and apply thin layer of paste. Than reassemble.

    Thank you so so much. I rarely comment but here i am writing to you.
    Long story short.. my laptop runs csgo on low and still lags..
    So i concluded after investigation it is due to thermals. Was scared and shocked when my friend said this ROG model is hard to disassemble, i listened and dared not touch it.
    It gotten so bad i raged now im here trying to fix it myself. NOW thanks to you sir.. you saved my wallet, my day and my happiness. Runs butter smooth~

      @@evanvincentkarta9938 Hi, it feels like how it used to be and how it should be, 100fps+ at ultra settings. Even all my games like R6, buttery smooth. And this may seem like a buffoon to clean your pc and get more "fps" but yes it miraculously does :) I ain't a pc expert but if you're experiencing illogically low fps compared to your benchmarked fps, cleaning your pc is the solution.

    Difficulty is easy to medium, compared to others, even if you have to disassemble completely to get to the cooling system. Did mine at work in about 20 min. New thermal paste, CPU at 75 max instead of 100+.

    This is very nicely done. I tried this yesterday but I could only open one (!) of the 8 screws of the heatsink. The rest just broke and got stripped.. a sad experience indeed, but at least I got some dust out.

    Hello mr yanko, i buy my asus rog laptop 3 years ago and my laptop started not using my nvidia gpu to run a game instead its using my intel hd graphic, so i test it with gpu test, turn out its using nvidia gpu but when i run the test the gpu clock speed start to slowing down, from 950mhz to 405mhz, but when im not using the gpu to the test, the clock speed raised to 950mhz again(i believe because i turning the gpu to the maximum performance setting and power management too). And the fan just spinning like crazy when im running the test. I try reinstall the windows and completely format the hardisk but its not working
    my question is, why the gpu clock not staying in 950mhz?
    Is it possible my gpu is broken?
    Or i just need to change thermal paste?
    Thank you, your video is very informative

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First try to reset the power options to the default. Also when you are running the test you have the adapter plugged in??
      What are the temperatures of the cpu and gpu of the laptop. Probably the temperature of the gpu is high and the system is lowering the preferences to cool down. Try cleaning it and replace the thermal paste and test again. Use a good quality thermal paste.

    • @finnhackox5864
      @finnhackox5864 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yanko Goshev thank you for your reply
      I just turn on my laptop and checked the temp
      My battery is broken one month ago so i have no option to plugged in the adaptor
      at first the temp was normal(i think its because i turn it off since morning)
      Before test:
      Cpu:54
      Gpu:53
      When i run the test it increased dramatically
      Cpu:90
      Gpu:95(clock speed slowing down to 405mhz)
      After the test(idle)
      Cpu:56
      Gpu stay: 83(clock speed goes back to 950mhz, i think its stay at 83 because the clock speed is high)
      And i tried resetting power option in control panel and nvidia setting, and the clock speed still high, i remembered three days ago i got desperate so i started googling “how to” on the internet and start tweaking things in windows registry to increase the gpu clockspeed because that day the clock is very low, its 405mhz. After tweaking, its sucess! my clock speed increased to 950mhz BUT when i play games the clock speed slowing down to 405 mhz again 🤦‍♂️ and the temp was so high and i got 5-10fps(im not even getting in the game menu). i dont remember what setting that i made in windows registry so i think to reset it i will reinstall windows. And i try overclocking my gpu when its slowing down with msi afterburner but the system is automatically shutdown lol.
      Btw the cpu is intel 7700hq 4 cores
      Gpu is geforce 950m

If you cannot just inject IPA alcohol with Syringe in the middle. Repeat few times till the fan start to spin free... IPA cannot harm the fan.

    Do you know the thickness of the thermal pads under the copper bar? I have to renew them. My laptop is GL552VW but the structure is the same as GL552JX.

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually like to use the original ones, if they are in good shape. If nor i replace them with similar size. You can do the following to see the correct thickness. Use a think paper or fold a thinner one. Put it on the chips and tide the screws. If you can move the paper than you need to add a layer. When you find the needed thickness, just compare with the pads. Usually they are 1.0 or 1.5mm Also you can check in the Asus forums.. probably someone will know. But there is nothing better than the original ones.

    Hello Yanko Goshev
    I found your video and it was very helpfull, because I don`t know how to open my laptop. Thanks for this video.
    I've been having problems with this laptop for some time. Have the same model as you.
    - Intel Core i7 4720 HQ CPU
    - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M
    - 8 GB of memory (I do not know which brand or model)
    - 128 GB Micron_M600_MTFDDAV128MBF
    - 1000 GB HGST HTS541010A9E680
    Two years after I bought my laptop, I was in a game and played. Suddenly the screen started to flicker and the whole thing went on in a jerky way. The game was slow and was not playable anymore. It was the same with other games. Rebuilt my laptop a few months ago and reinstalled Windows. Nevertheless, it runs slower than normal. What could it be? I used to play games on maximum graphics. Now I have to be happy with minimal graphics settings, otherwise the games run slower with high graphics or with fewer frames per second. I talked to a few students. They assume that it is the temperature. I will then film my screen and show the power and temperature indicators. I do not know why it's so slow. I'm already at my limits. It can not be viruses or anything like that. Graphics card temperature is in games at 85 ° - 95 °. The processor is at 70 ° during normal operation. So I wanted to change the thermal grease and clean the cooler. Only I have to first see how to clean it.
    Do you possibly know why it could be? Can it really be due to temperature or is it due to insufficient RAM or a defect in the SSD? I already ran some tests for the SSD and nothing came out. State that the SSD is working properly.
    I do not know any people who can tell me exactly where the problem might be. Did you have the same problems as me with this laptop? Or with other things already the same experiences made? I do not know who else I could turn to ask. :-(
    I hope you can tell me a few things

    • @LaptopDisassembly

      The same way. Just disassemble the laptop and put the new ssd. After that you can use acronis true image or Aoemi Bacupper to clone the os to the new disk, or you can make a clean install.

    Hello, I have a different model, mine is ROG G551VW but the shape is almost the same, can this work too? I want to clean the keyboard, some buttons like 45RTFGVB sometimes don't work, do you think it will be normal again if it's only cleaned? Thank you very much ❤️

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this video will not work for you. Check this one: th-cam.com/video/pUMcwwmGT58/w-d-xo.html Also about the keyboard, you have to remove the hole board to get to her. But in many cases it is bonded to the plastic. Use a vacumcleaner to clean it. And reconnect the cable. Lot of the times it is a bad cable connection. Also when you open it look for a liquid damage. The buttons you say are in a same area, so they can be a liquid damage also.

    • @LaptopDisassembly

      It will not affect the motherboard. Just more and more buttons will stop working if it is a liquid damage. The easy way is to try and reconnect it.

      If you are talking about the green board in the middle, that is actually the SSD drive. The one on the left is the normal disk. The green "ssd" actually makes your computer faster. The operation system is installed on it.

      Well that is bad.... You can change the cable. You can use cable from any laptop, they are pritty much the same. Just connect to WiFi and the other side you can stick to right hinges. It will work fine. Normally it should work fine even only with black, but if you like you can replace it... Just dont disassembly the LCD to replace the hole wire... If you have old one... just cut little cable and solder it... the cable is basically 2 wires... middle and ground...

    Im very familiar with computers. I took mine apart and cleaned it, took the ram out of the bottom slot, put back in and it wont boot in that slot now? Any reason you could think of why? And another problem is the screen isn't turning on anymore. I didnt even unplug the lcd plug? but when i put the ram in the top slot (furthest away from board) it boots but screen still doesn't work. I hooked up a monitor to test it because the backlight keyboard was working and it worked. Then I shut down and tried to hook it back up to the original ram slot and it wont work, comes on but doesn't show display. Help me @yanko Goshev

      Even if you haven't disconnect the lcd cable it can still be a little loose. Try reconnecting it again. Just unplug it and plug it back again. About the memory, check the memory slot. There may be a peace of dust or something else.

      Make sure you connect the backlid cable. Just reconnect it and make sure it fits good in the connector. First slide the cable in... And after that push it down and lock.
      The hole keyboard not working, or just the backlid.

      3. Is there. a fan spin whee you press the power button.

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On some models the gpu is not with thermal paste, but with thermal pads. They are thicker. If it was with pads, you have to put pads again. If all was with thermal paste, just check how you mount the cooler. All have to make contact with the pipe. When you install all just resit all the memory sticks. Try and tell what is the result.

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marc Pavia the black and white cables are for WiFi... Even without them it should work. No problem if you connected them on reverse. Just check for proper mounting of the cooler, and reinsert the memory. Good luck

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marc Pavia no point of buying HDmi cable. If the problem is the monitor... The laptop will start and you will hear Windows sound or simular. Try to reinsert the memory. Now when you try to turn the laptop on... Is there a fan speed. Also check is the heat pipe make good contact with cpu, and gpu. But my guess is the memory. Normally you can turn it on even without heat pipe. In that case the laptop will show picture, and after a while it will turn off because of overheating. Try he memory like I told you. Also see did you connect the LCD cable correctly.
