Not really, in the bits of Russia near to China, most people aren't ethnically Russian. They have a culture more similar to South/Central Asia despite being in Russia. So your statement is a little misleading.

Only people who really live in Xinjiang will deeply understand how their lives have been greatly improved. There is a reason why they have become more convenient, higher quality, and their living standards have improved, because the Chinese government really cares about the people, not only listening to them The voice is also working hard to meet the expectations of the common people, so you can see that so many people spontaneously welcome Xi in the video, and some even shed tears of excitement

  • @condorX2

Did you guys know China have 56 ethnic groups?
In 2014 there were 39,135 mosques in China, in 2009 an estimated 25,000 of these were in Xinjiang, a north-west autonomous region, having a high density of one mosque per 500 muslims.
I start to believe all the smears on China is just a distraction from this. Just imagine replacing Julian Assange with Adrian Zenz.
    For those who missed this.
Brown University’s Costs of War Project this month released a new estimate of the total death toll from the U.S. wars in three countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The numbers, while conservatively estimated, are staggering. Brown’s researchers estimate that at least 480,000 people have been directly killed by violence over the course of these conflicts, more than 244,000 of them civilians. In addition to those killed by direct acts violence, the number of indirect deaths - those resulting from disease, displacement, and the loss of critical infrastructure - is believed to be several times higher, running into the millions.
When the U.S. military first apologized for the botched drone strike that killed 10 civilians in Kabul, Afghanistan, including seven children, it insisted that it got one thing right: Zemari Ahmadi stopped at an “ISIS safe house.” Now, this week, the military admitted that “We have not found any particular safe house.” Our visual investigation takes you inside the misidentified home.
    --The New York Times
    Update
March 19 marks 15 years since the U.S.-UK invasion of Iraq in 2003, and the American people have no idea of the enormity of the calamity the invasion unleashed.
The U.S. military has refused to keep a tally of Iraqi deaths. General Tommy Franks, the man in charge of the initial invasion, bluntly told reporters, “We don’t do body counts.”
One survey found that most Americans thought Iraqi deaths were in the tens of thousands.
But our calculations, using the best information available, show a catastrophic estimate of 2.4 million Iraqi deaths since the 2003 invasion.
    The list is super long.

You don't need to call it genocide if you don't want to. But prejudice and discrimination is very real against Uyghurs. I was once profiled by Chinese police because they thought I was a Uyghur. As soon as they realized I was a foreigner visiting china, they immediately changed their tone with me entirely, to being very friendly.
Edit: all I really ask is, if uyghurs are indeed part of the fabric of Chinese civilization, then the Chinese govt needs to step up and do better to protect and treat them and their culture with dignity.
Edit #2: I will say it's a welcome sign that Mr.Xi says to local leaders to do more to preserve the culture of the uyghurs. They also deserve dignity and prosperity. More of this talk and action might be the beginning stability for uyghurs at last.
Edit #3: overall I enjoyed my time in China. But it felt it was important to mention these instances.

Frank knew there was a correct time and place to reveal his secret and this wasn't it. The issue was that the secret might be revealed despite his best attempt to keep it from coming out. At this point, it was out of his control and completely dependant on those around him who also knew the secret. They wouldn't purposely reveal it, or at least he believed that, but they could easily inadvertently expose it. It was going to be a long hour as he nervously eyed everyone around the table hoping they would keep their mouths shut.
