We recently purchased your transmission through Amazon. Today, two of my children (an 8 & 9 year old) and I replaced our transmission on the exact same machine shown. Our Neutral/Drive shaft had come off the machine making it very difficult to vacuum. But doing some internet research and looking over your frequently asked questions on your website, we found that installing a new transmission was required. We appreciated the TH-cam tutorial. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you very much for this video, I’m from the Uk and have waited for over 2 months for a Kirby drive belt to arrive from the US. My husband is very busy, so I followed your tutorial and managed to replace the drive belt by watching how you changed the transmission. Brilliant many thanks 🙏🏼
Thanks for the video. I took mine apart because the transmission position selector pedal fell off. Pulled straight out. I began taking it apart until I got stuck. After watching your video I was able to get it the rest of the way apart and put it together. I used JB liquid Weld to permanently connect the part that slipped off the shaft piece and after I followed your directions of putting it back together, my Kirby works like new. Thanks again and God bless.
Thank you so much for the video! My transmission shaft came out and I thought.....well I just take this bottom plate off and see whats what...well after all these parts fell out, including the transmission belt I was a little more than frustrated. Your video saved me ALOT of time, money, and aggravation. Kirby works like new. Thanks again!
I used this video to make sure that I correctly installed a new transmission belt in my g6. I learned a lot and I will definitely refer back to this video for instructions on future repairs. Thank you
Thank you sooo much! my drive pedal fell out of my machine and I did what Michael Riggins did and then regretted my decision. Luckily I found this and was able to repair the problem!! Although it sounds like, in your response to notonhere, I need to actually glue the foot back on/replace or this is going to happen again. I think I will just wait until that happens, now that I know how to fix it properly! Thanks again!!!
great tutorial. I wish I looked this before I took my Kirby G4 apart and put it back together the first time:) I muddled through but it sure would have got smoother if I had seen this first.
My Diamond Edition G series continuously pulls forward when the drive lever is pushed. It doesn't wait until I push forward -- it just instantly starts driving forward. When I pull in reverse, it doesn't switch. It just continues to drive forward continuously. ???
Thank you for a great video. Tried to replace the fan without a video (dumb) and ended up accidentally disconnecting the lever that engages the transmission and disconnecting the light! Watched you video and saw the correct spot for the wiring I had unplugged and how to re-attach the transmission arm. Will book mark you for the next time I need parts.
Excellent Video. My problem is, the transmission Neutral/Drive shaft came off the machine. Can I possible t0 re-install the shaft into the trans, or do I need to replace the transmission?
Great video thank you I was able to fix my drive switch (the cam had come off the selector) but taking outt and putting the transmission back in was made easy by following along!
I have a question about the neutral/drive selector switch. It seems on our Kirby the D/N switch has come loose. Will this require a new transmission or can I reinstall the lever switch?
Wondering if you can help me out. My son broke the plastic on/off foot cover. If the axel bar happened to come out of that, could it cause a problem with the self-propel? It is making the clicking noise you speak of, so perhaps it is the transmission going.
Hello, I'm having some troubles...I have the same g6 unit, and it doesn't power on. I replaced the motor, and it still doesn't power on. I noticed some parts are missing on the transmission, but that shouldn't effect the motor from not functioning, or should it? Oh, and I replaced the g6 motor with a sentria motor, and noticed the ground clip was missing, so I installed one. I also noticed that the screw on the bottom, that you mentioned not to remove in this video, is missing. what is it's function? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Stephen
@123KennyM Yes, You have 1 or 2 problems- Hopefully you only need to replace the fan & belt shaft. This kit is only $17.95 at GoVacuum and it's an easy fix (search Kirby fan replacement, we have a video for how to do this) Search Part # 119096S. Worst case, you need a new motor :( Start off with the fan kit though, for under $20 it's worth seeing if that fixes it! Also note if it's loud, it's probably just in need of this fan kit! :) Any questions? 1-866- GoVacuum that's 866-468-2288. :)
What if you have a Gen 3 that only wants to go in reverse ? Neutral it stays put. Hit the D switch and it goes backward... I have the feeling I am going to watch this video again. Thanks.
why do you say replace the transmission along with the cord and fan? Transmissions can be serviced, cord doesn't need replacement unless its broken/split/hurt, and the fan... only if its excessively chipped up or broken/cracked.
If you're wanting to fix it properly- replace it. Yes, you can just reattach the rocker to the foot pedal, but the grooves wear, aligning it is a huge pain and 1/2 the time it just pops back off within a few vacuuming's. I always replace them as otherwise the consumer will come back mad at us. If it were mine, I'd replace it and be done for another 10-20 years.
My Generation Four goes backward just fine, but it does not work to push the unit forward. Does this mean the transmission is bad?? Or is there an adjustment off?

Fabulous video! I also had the neutral/drive selector switch break and this helped me get it all apart and put back together. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for your thorough video. It helped me troubleshoot some issues with my Kirby and gave me hope of a workable solution.

thanks so much. i would've been lost without your great video.

is was woundering if theres a video on how to replace a kirby motor or do a tune up
Where is the popping coming from the cord or the main motor area? If from the main area, it could be the motor or the carbon brushes.

Go to autozone and get yourself a pair of snap ring pliers, the ring wont shoot out like with the hook

Age of use. Same reason you replace the pads when you replace the calipers on a car.

what causes for my kirby g ultimate to pop every time i plug it in and there was a spark in my kirby.
awesome video, thanks for the lesson!
Great video and very helpful.
You do not have the part that connects to the handle on the lever that activates the transmission so the transmission is stuck in reverse.
How much does it usually cost to refurbish a Kirby Sentria?
Was that a fart at 0:09?
Gratefully thankful
it's called tech drive power assist!
Why do you kick the wall? lol. Sorry, I can't get over that part
LOL! No, that would be the wheel on the desk, but thanks for the laugh! :)
was that a fart?
We can neither confirm nor deny these allegations, but a good filtering vacuum like a SBO can filter the air you breathe :)
I have a feeling you will be too! Use coupon code: video for savings!
