I had no idea "servicing" a Kirby was such a thorough and meticulous job! I'm very impressed. I've put off taking mine to have it serviced because I didn't realize what a good job you would do, making it literally as clean as new inside and out, every little bit. I can hardly wait now to take mine in to have its woefully overdue service done.
+Marialla What model do you have? I have two the Ultimate G Series and The Ultimate G Series Diamond Edition. I do the stuff you see in the video myself i might take mine in to be professionally done.
Mariella just be careful and make sure you know what you're getting before you go (unless you're taking it to the people in this video). I know plenty of vac dealers that would charge $70 or more to service a Kirby, and while they would get it working like new again, they wouldn't fully disassemble much less clean/lubricate each and every part like these people. I just recommend you ask what the service includes before dropping your machine off. :)
You should have your Kirby serviced with average use every 3 years; however I will caution you and say that most Vacuum Service Shops do not do as thorough job as we do.
This was amazing. I've watched a service being done in our house by a company here in the UK and it was nowhere near as thorough as this video. Didn't use it very much as my wife finds it too heavy to get up and down the stairs so I mostly use it for the cars and garage jobs. A few months ago my daughter was using it for cleaning her car and it blew up!! Smoke and sparks etc. Problem is I can't figure out how to get the outer casing off but I think I have some clues from this video. This is a great job, wish you lived close by us!
Man that looks so much easier then my Classic 1 Omega and Classic 3 from the 70s. It took me a ton of trial and error to figure out how to remove the fan blade and the armature from my classic 3
What does a complete servicing like this cost for a Sentria and Dual Sanitronic 80? Terrific video. Clearly much better than the tune-up a local Kirby distributor gave me last June!
Do service it. I have a 1965 Dual Sanitronics by Kirby that worked fine but tore it apart and I restored it. I had the motor rewound with a higher grade copper(expensive), installed new seals, new bearings, new old stock wheels and polished. My vac runs GREAT!!!! I got tired of the buying cheap plastic vacs that breakdown. This vac will be included in my will
Yes, but it also improves the performance of the Kirby. Over time the airflow is restricted by dust, dirt, and sticky debris that collect in the fan chamber, horn, fill tube and outer bag of the Kirby. Also the armature builds up carbon and that decreases the RPM’s thus decreasing the airflow as well. Additionally the Drive system requires lubrication to prevent the Neutral and drive pedal from breaking as well as insuring a smooth drive system.
I've got quite a collection of Kirby's, I wish I could get them serviced like that here lol I have: A Kirby 510, 516, Dual Santronic 50, Classic III, Heritage II, Legend II, G3, G4, G5, GSIX & Sentria. High Quality vacuums I must say, aside from the regular maintenance like replacing the belts every 12 months etc
Nice job! I am a Setria owner and I love it very much. I would like to know with what do you clean/polish the colector on the motor (the place where the carbon brushes are connected to the motor) shown in the video at 2.28 - 2.30min? Thank you very much for the video.
Okay, I watched this to figure out how to service my Kirby...I will tear down a transmission or carburetor before tearing into my wife's Kirby. Same as others, if I was closer, for $70 bucks you would have my business! Great video!
I paid to have my Kirby serviced at a local shop where I purchased it originally, because the vacuum started to produce awful smells when in operation. I was disappointed after picking it up. It looked like they just replaced the collector paper dirt bag and cleaned the roller brush and that was it. When I took it home and used it, the vacuum still produced this god awful smell. I guess I was ripped off. It is hard to find quality shops.
I know this is an old comment but i had the same issue after paying to have mine serviced. I ended up taking the outer bag apart and washed it, and voila!! With a few febreze unstoppables in the bag compartment it now smells wonderful when vaccuuming!!
Many different things can cause the oxidation/spotting; living near salt water, pet's "marking” the vacuum, and storing it in the garage or damp area, so it's hard to say. Also, I have not used many cleaners because we use commercial buffer machines to polish ours. However I have used a product called Fitz that Kirby also sells. It seems to do a nice job but won’t remove all the spots. Fitz can be purchased on line as well as local and state Fairs. Sorry I don’t have an easy answer for you.
Hi I've got s question about vacuuming carpet with the kirby. When I lower the nozzle to the point the sound changes, the nozzle lifts the beater bar off the carpet in the pull back. If I lower it one more click it still happens. If I go one more I'm worried I'm too close and am damaging the carpet or overtaxing the belt. Any suggestions to suppress the lift on pull back?
I have 2 kirby's but they dont suck like they are supposed too, even pet hair doesn't lift, any suggestions please, also is there a service centre in the UK for these USA vacuums?
Not sure which models you have but I will try to give you some advice: Changing the bags and replacing the belts often will help some. If that doesn't help, you might inspect the roller brushes. You can adjust them by rotating the numbered end caps to the next number (2). If you have models prior to the Generation Series, you will see screw heads on the ends of the roller brushes. You can turn them evenly until more brush bristles protrude about 1/8 past the rug plates. If nothing helps after that, if may be time for a thorough service. There may be rubber fan case gaskets that are worn that need replacing, the fans could need replacing from erosion over the years, the outer bags and fill tubes may need thorough cleaning and the commutator may need to be cleaned.
I just got a urine soaked Avalir for free. This is a big job but it’s not impossible! The screws are the most confusing part. I did a full disassembly and cleaned but didn’t get it that clean
we just got a kirby a few years back. I didn't know that it has to be services every 6 months. is this true? and how much does it cost? and what are the common parts that needs to be replaced? they said I had to replace my carbon which caused around 50 $ (200 AED)... I feel it's overpriced, it's like maintaining a car.
No, that's not true. A Kirby doesn't need servicing every six months. Whoever told you that lied to you. Carbon brushes should last for years before they need replacing. The only parts that need replacing often are a belt and disposable bag. A belt can go every six months to a year; a disposable bag maybe every three months at the max.
@@taksiobs You're welcome, Ted. I do my own work, since I am a vacuum cleaner tech. I used to service mine once a year, because I would run them almost daily. We have five people and six animals in the house. However, I have slowed down on that. If you use your Kirby quite often, you may consider taking it in once every three years at the most.
@@mattjones7621 I swear, we only consume 2 to 3 bags in a year. Not heavily used. That's why if the service tech says something is broken, I'd really say that kirby is a scam. We live in a small apartment. Not even carpeted. The sales man was good though selling us something that's too much for us. Like driving a Ferrari on a 40km road.
Hi, I had my Kirby sentria repaired at a local Kirby authorized place more than a year ago, because it had a clicking noice. and when I got it back it had a green and white tansmission lever. I just found out that that type is for a G3, is there something I can do for them using the wrong parts?
tyler5310 There is a spacer that sits behind the fan. It keeps the fan from rubbing against the housing. Anyway, the spacer has a rubber cover around it and that rubber touches the eyelet on the bearing housing. If dry, it will squeak. While not threatening, it can be pretty annoying. If you take on the job yourself, use enough bearing grease to grease the spacer and cover both. It will also help if you grease the fan shaft, too. I had a friend tell me about this, because I tried everything I could think of, but never thought about the spacer.
If a live video was filmed showing proof the service is being done on my Vacuum cleaner, I would be willing to pay a little extra. I have taken our Kirby to a shop in Van Nuys, CA to have it cleaned but wonder if they actually did everything I see in this video. There would be no way to know unless I took it apart myself.
In the video, that was Kirby Scuttle. I use Windex on the aluminum parts, and sometimes on the plastic. I use Mean Green to get paint marks off the bumper.
Boy oh boy! I just had my G4 serviced by a shop in Annandale, VA, and it wasn't given a tenth of the attention to detail you show in your video. I could have flown to SEA-TAC for what I paid. ::sigh::
Can I use parts from Sentria G10 on a Sentria G10D? Because the Fan of the G10D part no is 118997 and I can't find it no where, and the Fan of the G10 part no is 119096....Can anybody give me some advice????

I still say the Kirby is one of the best vacuums ever.
amen no doubt about it KIRBY is number one in reliability
I just purchased a used one do they still maintenance it for 70?
The Best is Kirby, made in good old Ohio!
Thanks for the idea of washing the bag in the washing machine! Worked like a charm for me on all 6 of my Kirbys!!!
Fantastic service. If I lived near your store I'd definitely use your service.
I know this is 10yrs old but I will send my vacuum to you if this is how you treat your clients. Fantastic!
Thank you! Yes, we still service our customers vacuums the same way, even better in many cases.

I've watched this video like 20 times
I slowed the playback speed to 0.25X! 😁
It's a thing of beauty! I just purchased my first Kirby Legend II and it is the shizzy.

Good price for service.
Awesome! Looking to have that done to my old G4.

Denis Deslauriers Me too! $20 for the Heritage....then I lucked up 2 weeks later and got the Avalir with everything for $150!
I have a Kirby that started sparking. Came across this video trying to figure out how to take it apart.

YEAHHHHHH now thats KIRBY CLEAN had to favorite this vid man lol
I have a old Dyson ydk motor that quit working . Would new brushes get it running?

No, most just repair; meaning they just fix the problem. We clean and service EVERYTHING to avoid problems.
