Good instructions. No Kirby repair shops within a reasonable distance. Our unit is 14 years old and a little dinged and dull, having moved probably 6 or 7 times in those 14 years. I attempted to disassemble and repair the unit (incorrectly, by the way) and was halfway convinced I was going to either buy a new vacuum or pay shipping costs to send it off for repair and be without a vacuum for some unknown amount of time. Watched a couple of other, shorter videos but they started from the point where the unit was disassembled. Yours, on the other hand, went through all the steps from start to finish and was easy to follow. Thanks so much for posting!
This video covered exactly what I needed. I have no experience in any type of work like this but I I was able to take the vacuum apart and put it back together correcting the problem. I am so grateful that you made this video. My neutral/drive bar just fell off but now it is installed correctly and works like it's brand new! I am so indebted thanks again!!
Fallowed step by step and I just fixed mine. For a moment I thought that I messed it up but once I put everything together it runs nice and smooth. Now my wife is very happy because she won’t lift it up anymore. Thanks bro
Just got done doing this job on a 2011 Sentria. Put a little loctite and a couple washers, reassembled, and no more clicking on neutral and works like new. Thanks for the informative video! Saved me money and time.
Thank you for posting this. The drive lever fell off my 20 year old Kirby this video saved the day. I was starting to look for a new machine but was simple to fix with instructions. You saved me a lot of $$$ at a time of year when things start to get tight.
Thank you for making this video. My pedal fell out and I had no idea what I was looking at. This breakdown made it simple to follow along and put the pedal assembly back onto the transmission.
I fixed it as you said but then it didn't start. The reason it didn't start was because I didn't put it completely all together. Found out there is a safety mechanism where it won't start if you don't have the front end on (brushes). Excellent video
Awesome video man. It covered the exact problem I was facing. I started to get nervous when I began taking my Kirby apart. It had completely fallen apart inside. You were very easy to follow and it ended up to be a very easy fix. Thanks a lot!!
This was the perfect video for what I needed! Actually I learned a lot more too. But understanding where to place the key on the splines was the best part. I had no idea. No other video showed that. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the video. You saved me a lot of $$$$$$. The repair guy told me the entire transmission had to be replaced!! Thank God for your video! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for your detailed repair information. I just repaired Mother's Kirby. She is in her late 80s and still loves to vacuum but HAS to have the drive working in order to vacuum. Other vacuums are to difficult to operate with out the drive. Many Thanks !!
Very very helpful! Exactly what I needed. My only glitch was getting the T alignment right so the cam piece popped into the other part exactly right (took 2 tries of positioning it) and also when I reinserted the assembly it was bumping the plastic housing edge right near this same mechanism and once I used a flat screwdriver to push it a bit out of the way the assembly went all the way in! Mission accomplished.
thank you...thank you... thank you... my wife never did like this vac and when it broke she said just put it in the trash... I like it... and with your help, I like it evenmore... once you see how it is made/put together it makes since ... you saved my Kirby and my man hood............. thank you.... P.S. I HAVE ONE SCREW LEFT OVER... i'll FIND IT'S SPOT TOMORROW... Thanks from FLA...
Aaron, Thanks for your video, it's really useful. But I have a problem, when I opened unmount the transmision there was a small black piece, something like retainer and a spring at the same time. Do you know where it fits?. Thanks in advance.
Excellent, THANK YOU. 3/13/22 happened again. Back to your video for help. Fixed it. Thanks again! 3/18/22 again. This time I bought a 23 cent clip from Ace Hardware store and put a notch on the end of the shaft with a hack saw put the clip on so the shaft will not slip out. Working so far. Thanks
Excellent video, I had the exact same problem and you explained it so well. It was a piece of cake to fix it. Would be great if you use a tripod next time for such videos. Other than that it was an extremely helpful video. Thank you very much.💗
Bro thank you 💯 so much did what ya said and boom got it working …it didn’t start rt away I guess I tripped a switch on the bag exhaust port so if anyone else is doing this project just watch out….flicked that switch so it’s good to go…thank you again!!! Excellent video
So… I found exactly the problem you described, and fixed it. But now my Kirby won’t turn on. I double checked the power arm is in the hole for the power button. 😬😬😬
When replacing lever on spline shaft I used Loctite 492144 290 Green Penetrating Threadlocker on it.This will keep it in place on spline ,preventing it from coming apart again.
When I put my Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition in drive it makes a clicking noise but doesn't do the self propelled. What could be the problem and how can I fix it.
I’m not 100% sure. All I can say is take it apart, as I showed and see if any of the parts need to be put back together. It sounds as though the transmission is not engaging.
Aaron Hackett yeah you are right. I tried greasing the pedals and it doesn’t engage the transmission but the transmission belt works. I’ll check it again to see and if it doesn’t work then I’ll replace the transmission UPDATE: The transmission now works and it was going backwards. Just needs to have the transmission adjusted and it'll work so the transmission isn't dead after all and the fork where it needs to be hooked wasn't on properly.
Great video, thank you. Exactly my problem. One mystery issue though - if anyone knows…. When i disassembled and found the out of place lever mechanizm, there was also a tiny, very thin washer that was slightly bent in with the other 2 pieces in that little cavity. I put everything back together as demonstrated, works perfect again, but i could not find what the tiny washer was from
Hmm it’s been a while since I’ve been inside that part of the Kirby. I don’t remember a washer… I wonder if it was maybe a washer for one of the screws attaching the housing.
@@Hunterhunted-m2z I believe the wavy washer goes on the splined shaft under the lever that you are positioning onto the spline. I found mine laying on the bench too....never did put it on.
@@pahackett1978 Mine has come apart several times now. I saw the recommendation from @Scottwiz to use Loctite 492144 290 Green Penetrating Threadlocker and am considering doing that. Do you think that's the best next step? tia!

I am so glad I could help. And glad you don’t have to ship it off. As heavy as a Kirby, I’m sure that would not be cheap.

After I took the vacuum apart I’m left with a tiny LE41 battery. No clue where it goes. The headlight works and the green light works. Any idea?
My guess is you vacuumed that up. As far as I know the Kirby does not have any battery.
