I use it a lot in A coruña, Spain. Im a Uni student and always get a surprise pack for abot 4.5€ at a local bakery every 3 days or so and it makes my evenings cravings go away. Not only you are being eco-friendly you are also helping the establishment. Hope more people see this video, great app!

it’s funny you said that about the rice. i always say people who don’t like it aren’t cooking it right or haven’t experienced proper fluffy and fragrant rice. just switching to a long grain basmati will change the game! and cooking it in a middle eastern style will take you up another level. glad you’re on team rice now 🫡

I'm still not a rice lover, but I married an Indian. I've come a very long way 😂 and I definitely agree, basmati is the best. I still don't eat plain rice, not even with my curries lol but certain types of biriyani, pulao, pilaf, fried rice, Spanish rice, Mexican rice, and especially moujardara I will definitely entertain. I guess I just like things mixed in my rice 😅

I don't know how easy this is to get outside of North America, but wild rice is a game changer if you can find it. The grains are nutty and chewy, and are usually served mixed with long grain rice as a pilaf dish. It's delicious alongside grilled chicken or steak.

I used to live in South London and I used Too Good To Go as well! I had this Turkish shop that I went to weekly, and once I got a whole box of oddly shaped veggies for about £2. Lasted me two weeks! It's great value for money as a student but so sustainable for anyone to do!

I also wanted to thank you for always bringing a smile to my face with your videos which I now watch on repeat... Love this video Grace! I've used this app since it first came out and it's genius - a win-win for the consumer, restaurant and the planet (reduce waste etc) if you go in a rainy day to cafes liek Starbucks, Costa or greggs you get SO much food because they've had fewer customers in the day. The other day I got 2 huge bags of sandwiches and desserts from Starbucks for just £4 fed the whole family lunches and breakfast for two days!

As a uni student this app is great. There is also an app called ‘olio’ where you can get excess food from people for free - some of my classmates who are cutting it even finer than me have used that to get things, often discount food people have bought from the shops but can’t eat in time. Also personally pret meatball wrap is like 9/10 a fab snack in a pinch

Why isn't everyone doing this? Because it's a gamble. I got a grocery bag from Nisa. I've so much! All moldy, opened, fermented, etc. I've only tried it locally (London North) and Starbucks was the best. They might not be generous but everything is fresh and expires in 1 or 2 days. I also tried a local cafe where they gave me shop bought, stale pastries.

Too good to go is fun if you leave in or near a big city. I live rural and there's not much choice for me. Bakeries and supermarkets as well as Dunkin' Donuts. And most boxes I can't get since they're not vegetarian so yeah, I rarely use the app. But it's fun to see how much choice others have!

I think the iced biscuits were probably mostly things that people had ordered and then cancelled, so I was half expecting the letters to be a personalised message. You're probably right on the macarons being leftover Easter stock though (I imagine they get cooked as a batch).
Quick question: can you add allergies and preferences on the app? I'm thinking for example with the breakfast box you may want the cooked breakfast but be allergic to tomatoes, so only want the other items. Or a bakery has leftover gluten free items then they can give them to the gluten intolerant customer.

Just downloaded the app, but haven't used it yet. From what I can see, some restaurants offer two separate listings, for example Toby Carvery offers a regular carvery box or a vegetarian carvery box. As for other allergies/preferences, I can't see anywhere you can add it to your profile, however it does say, "if you have questions about allergens or specific ingredients, please ask the store"

We have Too Good To Go in NYC but hotel buffets are definitely NOT included - that's a nice perk. A lot of times it has to do with whomever is working at the restaurant at the time. A couple of times I have showed up and they have no idea what I am talking about. Some times they give things that are quite good. It is only good if you don't have any restrictive diet needs.

If you don't already, add some xanthum gum to your baking. It does the job of the gluten. Also, gluten free dough can be stickier so rolling it between two sheets of something like baking paper can make it easier.

Other people in the UK have done this video idea previously, like Emma Blackery, and got no backlash whatsoever. A few things about the program:
    1. As long as the Surprise Bag you're getting is the advertised value (e.g. $15 worth of food for the price of $5), the program is working as it should as it's supposed to be a surprise and you don't get to choose. It's a balance of quality and quantity so if you don't get a lot of food, it can be balanced out by its quality.
    2. Some businesses are exploiting the app to make more money instead of using it for its intended purpose. For example, if something is advertised as $30 worth of food, but discounted to $10, you should get that $30 value. If that business is giving you something that is normally worth $10 and are charging you $10 while claiming it is worth $30, then they are ripping you off and are not using the program the way it's intended, in which case you have a right to complain and report them to the Too Good to Go team through the app.
Another example of how they may exploit the app is that if they only have 1 Surprise bag worth of food (e.g. $30 worth of food), they may stretch it out into multiple bags (e.g. 3 bags instead of 1) offered through the app so that each bag is only worth $10 in portion sizes. This is a trick that they use to make more money via exploitation instead of using the program for its intended purpose. Again, report them through the app.
    3. There's a rating system on the app, but no reviews. Reddit is a good way to determine if that restaurant/business is following the rules. Usually, a rating of 4.0 or higher on the app means that the business is following the rules. Even if you don't like the food and believe that it is overpriced, be sure to give them a fair rating for the sake of the community if they are following the rules.

Yes, thank you for this! I have watched a few of these TH-cam reviews, and they always seem to go so well. I tried the app a few times, and it never worked. One time I showed up to Pret where the lady angrily stuffed four things of premade soup in a bag, and that's all I got. I'm not even a soup girl, let alone four tubs of the same two soups.

We need this in the US. Most places just throw all their leftovers in the trash. What a waste with all the homeless and hungry 😢

Love your videos Grace! Here is something I think would be interesting for you to try. See if the drive-through at fast food places is faster than going inside and ordering from the counter. There was a CBC radio show here in Canada (Cost of living) that had a short report on it and they reported that the drive-throughs are given priority. It would be interesting to see if this is actually the case or if the situation is any different in the UK. Hope you have a great week😊
