The sheer crazy joy on Chris Thile's face - here's a guy who can keep up with him, challenge him, make him work hard, complement his brilliance. I envy the heck out of anyone who was there watching this live.
Ryan Certainly both create incredibly interesting results. However, I would hesitate to call Julian either a jazz musician or a bluegrass musician exclusively. He’s played with everyone from Mark O’Connor and Chris Eldridge to the serious jazz cats like Gary Burton. Much like Thile, he is beyond genre.
This has a criminally low amount of views! Listening to it while working, it kind of distracted me, I was like, "what's that insanely good stuff?". Truly incredible.
I'm clearly losing it from lockdown that I watch this and think "Damn. Those are some fast fingers. Their girlfriends/wives/partners are very lucky ladies."
Looks like a Wegen based on the color. He enjoys the Wegen TF 140, he has been using it for years. Check out one of his early interviews. www.mandolincafe.com/news/publish/mandolins_00477.shtml
The interesting parallel between Chris and Julian is they both were mentored in music by their Dads at an early age. There’s even a documentary called “Jules at Eight” that is exactly that.
Chris makes a joke about the “speed holes” in his Wegan in the article sited below. A handy tip for Wegan users: use a Dremel tool to add more speed holes closer to the tip. You'll have a better grip when you choke down on the pick.
I mean, you lost me with the "far beyond" stuff, but yeah, they're just different players. One fits with the overall motif, and one is a hired gun you bring in to melt faces.
The positions of the instruments are reversed. I am not sure what is the intention. I need to switch L/R on my headphone otherwise I will get confused. Anyway, this is pretty neat.
Imagine being this good at anything.
They NEED to do more collaborating.
They MUST!
Check Julian's album sounding point. He has a couple of tunes with Thile and Bela Fleck on them. The informant is amazing!
These two are simply some of the best musicians on the planet
Yes please!
Imagine an album of just these guitar and mandolin masters track after track!
I can't express how magnificent this perfect blend of two masters is... absolutely mind blowing stuff.

This makes me so happy
one of my favorite songs off World's Fair, not surprised at all that Thile would make it even better
I can't get enough of this, I'm constantly replaying the solo's, then the song. Repeat.
When your two favourite instrumentalists play a duet!
I've wanted this for so long. Please tour and make an album together!! This is just too good!
This guy will be remembered.
Think of the decades and decades he has to go. Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.
Chris Thile is a genius who should play more with jazz musicians.
I'd like to see that, but what we're seeing is the opposite: jazz musicians playing bluegrass with Chris. Very different.

He’s played with everyone from Mark O’Connor and Chris Eldridge to the serious jazz cats like Gary Burton. Much like Thile, he is beyond genre.
tomlettman I want to see a summit with he and the tremendous violonista/composer from Brazil, Yamandu Costa.
Julian Lage + Chris Thile = OMG! :)
That was breathtaking!
How awesome! I've always wanted to see them playing together - brilliant, outstanding musicians.
Please for gods sake make an album together! ILL DO ANYTHING!
They bring so much out of one another
Tocam com um feeling absurdo.
Brilliant from both of them. Dynamic, beautiful, loved it. I am going to steal from both of them now. AMAZING.
Breathtaking!
Superb, fantastic and very, very good. I could happily spend a whole day watching Prairie clips.
this is joy and beauty and a couple of talented bstrds
My favourite guitar sound
This blesses me so much!
wonderful! absolute bucket list duet for me. would love to see more of this.
Chris and Julian ... that should be the title and its ftickin Mighty Fine !!
Que MARAVILHA!
Of course the connection here is Chris Eldridge, who has recorded several albums with Julian Lage and plays in Punch Brothers with Chris Thile
amazing
Do an album together!
DUO ALBUM. PLEASE! It must be done
These 2 REALLY need to do a duo album together
Just wow.
Wow!!
The fact that this exists 😭
Did anyone else flip their headset around to make the music make sense?
This has a criminally low amount of views!
Listening to it while working, it kind of distracted me, I was like, "what's that insanely good stuff?".
Truly incredible.
Whew
This is acoustic music hitting warp nine
I there's ever been a better mando player than Chris Thile, I don't know who it is/was/will be.
Dang!
that was killer
Are they making an album together? They definitely should!
dr05guitar Wouldn’t they both be cheating on Critter?
I'm clearly losing it from lockdown that I watch this and think "Damn. Those are some fast fingers. Their girlfriends/wives/partners are very lucky ladies."
Just make an album together already !
A 'dislike'....really?
Must be Pat Metheny :-)
he took lessons from Pat Metheny when he was like 12
What pick is Chris using? Doesn't look like his signature BlueChip CT55.

WIsh it wouldn;t end.
Superhuman
000-18? Or other amount of 0?
1937's 000-18
Not to diminish the talent of Chris Eldridge, but imagine if Julian Lage was in Punch Brothers instead
I mean, you lost me with the "far beyond" stuff, but yeah, they're just different players. One fits with the overall motif, and one is a hired gun you bring in to melt faces.

leeandrewlee I was also very confused!
just pretend you're watching in back of them
wheres bela fleck when you need him?
1939 000 18 is what Julian plays
it's official: Julian Lage only have one shirt.
Caio Fabbri just like Metheny
no way, he wears a light blue one sometimes
Good observation. Lol
It sounds like 3 guitars and a mandolin, but it's only 2 guys...
Are you freaking kidding me? That's sick.
lol that one disliker must be a miserable S.O.B
randomlygeneratedusername existence is pain
Keenan R Are you suggesting that the dislike came from Mr Meeseeks? ;-)
This made me loose my shit
ez like
cheesus h christ....
Sounds a lot like Everybody’s Talkin’ until it most definitely doesn’t…
oh man...such a glorious performance...but Julian's high E string is *just* out of tune.
yeah this is a small bummer. tiny blemish on an otherwise outrageous performance
