I talked to the sound engineer of this concert, he was amazed of how they sounded together, he only put 1 microphone in front of the band to record them and this is how they sounded
Its is a bit like listening to Jeff Buckley on beautiful psychedelic jazz steroids I have never heard anyone play guitar like Julian Lage before I’ve only just discovered him but the more I listen the more I’m utterly mesmerised by the unending cascade of musical genius and oh so lovely sonic surprises. I think this guy is a one in a zillion, he will be one of the greats that musicians of the future look back on in years to come & say, yep this person redefined guitar music. Imo.
Man Julian, has totally cut his teeth in the trade and he's such a hard worker, you can see it in performances like, this, I can't imagine how much mental energy it must take to perform like this night after night. Well done to him and the others, loved the bass solo, really reminded me of Mingus
The people who get where he is tend to really like it a lot, and be really talented. A much less offensive version of the sales guy who just can't resist trying to get the next sale, so they never get off of their gimmick. Long story short, I don't think he's drained - I think he likes it.

I can’t understand how anyone can play soooo many concerts and have the fire, the tenderness, the creativity etc to do that. But then again, he’s in his own league so what seems like a lifetime achievement for me may feel like a row of nice songs to him... and certainly when you play things that you really enjoy, there’s some kind of energy feedback that comforts and refills your soul, at least to an extent. It’s something I’ve experimented just a few times, I’d love to know that better

Wow! The space he leaves in the mix is amazing. That is how I want to play. And the innovation, too, unusual modulation and intentional dissonance. Very dynamic and unique. No offense to shredders but this to me is more impressive and interesting guitar work
100% I think anyone can run through a pentatonic scale with heavy distortion on and make it sound like something, but it is FAR MORE difficult to play clean and expressive in a way that every detail is able to be heard. It sounds like a journey and not a run through scales, and that takes talent and experience.
And yet his music (to me at least) sounds very accessible and melodic. First heard him during a live show. His drummer had fallen ill during the day, so just him and the bass. You couldn't tell anything was missing or unforeseen.
In this day and age it's hard trying to get someone to focus on a video longer than 10 seconds, let alone 8 minutes, but Julian is a wizard on a different level, on a different planet, in a different universe.
Taking time with every note in every measure, beautifully articulate and heartfelt. This is why music especially made by masters like Julian and his band are essential in this crazy fast paced life, just as a reminder that there’s more to living that everything all the time,. The best things shouldn’t be rushed.

John Lanteigne I would call Julian Lage a virtuoso. It’s not about playing fast, although he can play reasonably fast indeed. But his dynamics, his chord work... From the technical side alone, this is difficult to get to.
Wow! Every time I watch this guy I’m in awe of his technique and use of space between notes…..not forgetting the superb bass and drums complementing his playing perfectly 👍🍷

A true musician's musician and perhaps the Keith Jarrett of the guitar in the making.... the perfect touch and stunning musical intelligence. Simply wonderful! Great to see it all done on a tele - in the tradition of Ted Greene and Ed Bickert - not to mention Dany Gatton.
Julian is outstanding, no question, but Scott and Kenny make the performance perfect. They play absolutley tasteful, that every tone from Julian have time to breath.

Julian has certainly found his own voice on the guitar and his style is like no-one I've ever heard before. I thought this piece had echos of Gershwin which is no bad thing. Great stuff.

Love Lage to death, not trying to be fussy as this is one of his best and one of my favs. I just hear it every time. Sorta? You play with what they give you, and when you're a pro, it will sound like you, no matter what (mostly). And when you're Julian, well....red knob Euro Fender or not, this is one of my favorite JL performances.
I have one and I was just about to sell it (moving). I know it’s just a back line amp, but your comment and seeing him work this modest amp is making me rethink the sale lol
Well, he's no Jerry Garcia.... (Snork, snork). He is seemingly absolutely fearless - WHY oh WHY doesn't he hit lots and lots of clams? This is kinda awful recording, on other clips you can hear him much better. He has no problem putting any number of notes into any number of beats. He's GOT to have some kind of _conception of rhythm_ to play that free and still make it back to home base, but I wouldn't be surprised if even he can't explain it fully. If it takes 10,000 hours to master something, he must be rounding 30,000 or so already. His daddy was a "tele dude" and Julian got his first (cardboard) tele when he was like 5 or something. It's _just not fair._ Waah. Mommy....
