    Great video! For anyone attempting this DIY, you don't have to remove the alternator if you have flex joints for your sockets. It's a little more difficult but it'll save you some cash on the new bolts. Regardless, excellent, clear and concise video.

    No need to remove bolts for alternator if you have a joint socket you can reach that screw behind the intake manifold. It's easy and saves times.

    BMW dealer just quoted me at $1500 for this repair. According to the BMW manual, all this extra work needs to be done. My BMW club buddies did it in 45 min without all the extra work.

    Why you removed engine starter. You can change oil filter housing gasket without removing it

    It helps to rub oil on the gaskets before putting them in

    • @scottmorton21
      @scottmorton21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this. I have always thought that you would need to rub a small amount of oil on both sides of the seal before you place it in the housing, like when you put on a new oil filter cap seal. Doesn't need much, just a thin coat. Does a dry seal provide better contact than an oiled one?

      @Objectional_Opinion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottmorton21 Oil every rubber gasket. Thin coat like you said.

    If the Germans would put on good rubber gaskets, rubber o rings or anything rubber in all their engines all of us wouldn’t have engine problems and the engines would be as reliable as TOYOTAS. I own a 2010 E90 and the main problem(s) is anything rubber. German engineering is not what it use to be. They know what they are doing by putting inferior parts on “ALL”
    BMW’s and there should be some legal recourse.
    I’m shocked at all the attorneys that own BMW’s why no one has come forward!

      Yes, German rubber sucks. Weather it's gaskets or window trim etc. it will fall apart in due time.

    2 swivel ( flex) joint sockets and you can skip taking the top plenum off, the Serpentine belt , the air box and the alternator

    WOW.... how much stuff did you do/remove, seen a few vids on this, this is probably how BMW do it, but no need to do this, ALTHOUGH, best advice was to not reuse the bolts

    Not sure if you reused or replaced the filter housing bolts. I noticed the gasket kit includes new bolts.

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      Hayk Samvelyan If they’re metal bolts you can reuse them if they’re the aluminum bolts replace.

    What's the risk if we reinstall the same alternator bolts?

    • @averyosborn2670
      @averyosborn2670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ik this comment is 2 years old but the bolts are aluminum and torque to yield so if you do it will break the heads of the bolts off the next time you go to remove them.

  • @Usmanthemecano
