When interviewed on Norwegian tv at age 12 she was asked if she felt like a twelve-year-old, and she said, "only when I look at my passport".

This is her own arrangement based on the 1956 ScreaminJay Hawkins original. Angelina is originally from Norway but she and her family moved to Los A genes in2018 when she was 12. Angelina is primarily self taught. She began studying jazz greats on TH-cam by the time she was 3 after being introduced to the music by her jazz fan grandmother. She entered Norway’s Got Talent at age 7 and won, having turned 8 by the end of the competition. She appeared on America’s Got Talent the Champions at age 13 and received the Golden Buzzer for her breathtaking performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. She signed with Republic Records at age 14. Angelina is not more well known because her family wanted her to have as normal a childhood as possible although when you find out all she has already accomplished it is not quite a typical childhood. This is very much Jay Hawkins' original version - all others was wussy'd or doll'd up in comparison. Jay's career was that of a boozy smoking club-singer, going nowhere fast but his performance of his composed song was a drunk man screaming his way thru it. Afterwards, he became known as "Screamin' Jay Hawkins" and this was his schtick. On TH-cam, there are his late '80s/1990s clown-act court-jester versions - it's all he had left, his only claim to money-making. Angelina's version rather mimics his, but she's got vocal tools that he never possessed, much less after a 40 years of boozy smoking.

There are so many, all great so difficult to pick one. She has recently done a show at Las Vegas which is worth checking out but unfortunately only phone recordings. To get an idea of what she can sound like today (she has so many sounds) check out her performance at the Nobel Peace Prize from November last year when she was still 17. Unchained Melody. She sang this as a tribute to the winner, Narges Mohammadi who has been fighting for women’s rights in Iran. This brave woman is currently serving a very long prison sentence for her efforts. When you realise that the song was originally written for the film “Unchained” about prisoners wanting to escape to be with their loved ones, it makes it even more poignant. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Everything she does is from the heart. Newport New Hampshire concert in September she said basically her mission statement is to spread love and kindness. You noticed that she was barefoot there is a reason for that as when she was 6 on vacation in the Middle East she encountered a homeless girl who had no shoes and she gave her her own shoes. Afterwards she vowed to perform shoeless until all the children in the world have shoes. She also does a lot of charity events and has since she was 9 or so. The same year, she published a book about her experience meeting a girl in the Middle East who had no shoes. Angelina gave the shoes off her feet to the girl and they talked about their dreams for life. Angelina performs barefoot to this day as a remembrance of this. Actually, auditioned at 7 but turned 8 during the show. On America's Got Talent she incorrectly said she was 7 when she won, but she doesn't seem concerned about her age. When interviewed on Norwegian tv at age 12 she was asked if she felt like a twelve-year-old, and she said, "only when I look at my passport".

As you said she is 9 years old is this video and turned 18?earlier this year. This is her own arrangement based on the 1956 ScreaminJay Hawkins original.
Angelina is originally from Norway but she and her family moved to Los A genes in2018 when she was 12.
Angelina is primarily self taught. She began studying jazz greats on TH-cam by the time she was 3 after being introduced to the music by her jazz fan grandmother.
She entered Norway’s Got Talent at age 7 and won, having turned 8 by the end of the competition.
She appeared on America’s Got Talent the Champions at age 13 and received the Golden Buzzer for her breathtaking performance of Bohemian Rhapsody.
She signed with Republic Records at age 14.
Angelina is not more well known because her family wanted her to have as normal a childhood as possible although when you find out all she has already accomplished it is not quite a typical childhood.
She has yet to be fully promoted but her career is beginning to take off. She released a 6 song EP last summer of all originals. A few weeks ago she performed two concerts in Las Vegas.
Others will probably give you more information about her and provide links to other performances. There are many many more performances on her YiuTube channels, Instagram, TikTok and fan channels.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. This is very much Jay Hawkins' original version - all others was wussy'd or doll'd up in comparison. Jay's career was that of a boozy smoking club-singer, going nowhere fast but his performance of his composed song was a drunk man screaming his way thru it. Afterwards, he became known as "Screamin' Jay Hawkins" and this was his schtick. On TH-cam, there are his late '80s/1990s clown-act court-jester versions - it's all he had left, his only claim to money-making. Angelina's version rather mimics his, but she's got vocal tools that he never possessed, much less after a 40 years of boozy smoking.

She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, "Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.
Now 18 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records had agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. From what we know, she is finally done with school. She had a single that came out May 5th called Love Don't Let Me Go, a new EP called Old Enough that came out Friday, July 21st, 2023, a newly released video of her new song called Now I'm The Fool, and a new album of original music which will be coming out early next year. Angelina just recently released her new single, Our Time, and is fantastic! She returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience. On September 22, 2023, Angelina had her first U.S. concert that sold out in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On December 11, 2023, she was asked to come back and perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. She first performed at this prestigious event in 2014 when she was 8. On Feb.29th, 2024, she performed 2 shows on one night at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.
Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. The girl then asked Angelina what her dreams were, Angelina answered that she wanted to sing for the whole world, and the girl said she would pray for her success. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even stated at 8 years old that she would be donating her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She was the youngest competitor in any song contest to win at the age of just barely age 8. She dedicated her life to singing and helping people in need. She raised (together with others) over 30 million USD during the years 201 to 2020, for child charity and ecological causes. A bright young woman speaking 6 languages, playing at least 2 instruments and is known to musicians all over the world as THE BOSS. Her instinct of music is uncanny. Grown musical professionals seek her advise. She has (so I heard) today her own design line and is a good seamstress (she sewed her own stage clothes for years).

It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). There are so many, all great so difficult to pick one. She has recently done a show at Las Vegas which is worth checking out but unfortunately only phone recordings. To get an idea of what she can sound like today (she has so many sounds) check out her performance at the Nobel Peace Prize from November last year when she was still 17. Unchained Melody. She sang this as a tribute to the winner, Narges Mohammadi who has been fighting for women’s rights in Iran. This brave woman is currently serving a very long prison sentence for her efforts. Her two children, twins aged 17 received the prize on her behalf. When you realise that the song was originally written for the film “Unchained” about prisoners wanting to escape to be with their loved ones, it makes it even more poignant. Thank you for discovering Angelina Jordan or, should I write, "for accepting requests from he fans to feature this performance".?. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

I always feel so jealous when I see someone hear AJ for the first time. that is the most magical experience ever. When AJ commands you to cry, you cry, laugh , you laugh. Never has their been an Artist that can evoke emotions in a listener like AJ. Pls go down the rabbit hole that is AJ but be warned, you will forever be changed. Ah, and the more AJ you cover, the quicker your subscribers will climb.
I love watching reactors start off rocking gently, then pick up the pace and then go STONE DEAD FLAT - "gobsmacked" into a stone, unmoving edifice. You do this twice, when you go so deep into her performance and all your questions remove the presence of cameras and streamer concerns.

Welcome to the Angelina Jordan affect where you get bombarded by hundreds of fans. Not only is Angelina a remarkable singer composer arranger etcetera but she is an even better human being. Everything she does is from the heart. Newport New Hampshire concert in September she said basically her mission statement is to spread love and kindness. You noticed that she was barefoot there is a reason for that as when she was 6 on vacation in the Middle East she encountered a homeless girl who had no shoes and she gave her her own shoes. Afterwards she vowed to perform shoeless until all the children in the world have shoes. She also does a lot of charity events and has since she was 9 or so. In my opinion her most incredible talent is her ability to interpret music and lyrics and perform the song in a way you've never seen before that seems like it's the right way. Some of her fans say she doesn't cover songs she uncovers them.

Hi Chloe! Angelina Jordan was 9 when she recorded this, her own arrangement of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' classic blues song. The same year, she published a book about her experience meeting a girl in the Middle East who had no shoes. Angelina gave the shoes off her feet to the girl and they talked about their dreams for life. Angelina performs barefoot to this day as a remembrance of this. She turned 18 this year and just finished a two-set evening at The Westgate in Las Vegas. I'll recommend you listen to her song Good In Goodbyes from last year's EP, Old Enough.
