Ginx, I have watched this video over 100 times just to see the reaction on the faces of new reactors! Your reaction was pure gold, "how" can a 9-year-old girl's voice sound like an old Jazz singer, unreal? The back story at the beginning of the video, Angelina is writing down suggestions for arrangement changes, to allow her to add her interpretation of the song. The Studio Band was so impressed with her performance that they named her "The Boss!"
One more video suggestion went Angelina's Grandmom arranged her first Sound Studio session at 6 yrs old to record "I Who Have Nothing!" What is remarkable about the recording, Angelina speaks Norwegian However, Recorded "Nothing" in English that will blow you away! So refreshing to see you acting same as me, in awe. I watched her first audition and when she opened her mouth to sing, i knew she was special. I had to vote for her win in NGT 2014, because i knew she had to be shown to the world. In final she got 46% of all votes given in the final. Clear win over contestants of all ages. Maybe "Gloomy Sunday" her first song public is the way to go? There are also subtitles as the show is spoken in Norwegian. Good luck on your deeper dive with Angelina Jordan. None of us thought this was possible. By this age she was already a world class artist. Spin the wheel, you can't go wrong. Angelina is a once in a lifetime force of nature.
Let the wheel pick for you...there is a lot more continuity in her development than you may imagine. Yes, you can tell that her voice matures along the way, and that some of the techniques improve, but...but...what is there at every turn is her respect for the original, her unique vocals and arrangements, and how she (as many have said) upgrades or improves on the song by infusing the lyrics with emotion and putting her stamp on the performance...across many genres, many artists, older and newer songs... It just goes on and on. I have returned to listen to many, many performances and found them just as enjoyable as the first time I heard them. I listen to her everyday. I will be 81 years old next month, and I can attest to the fact that Angelina is the closest thing to an ANGEL I have ever listened to...so go enjoy yourself!

There's only two ladies in this world that make my face leak, (without my control) and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about that, except for maybe not listening to them.

I read that the studio musicians initially didn’t know she was 9 years old. By the time the finished this, they all called her boss
Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Angelina was near her 9th birthday when she created her arrangement and gave this remarkable performance. The musicians lovingly called her 'the boss' as she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song. I love the very end of the video with Angelina reflecting on what she just did. She is blessed with a set of skills unlike any other I know of. It is like she has a connection with musical heaven, given all the skills of the greats from decades past and also fully understanding mature human emotions. I look forward to your future reactions.

Angelina was 9y 2m at the time of this performance. Earlier you saw the notes that she wrote to the bandleader regarding her chosen key, and the arrangement. By the end of the studio session, they were calling her "The Boss"!

Before you started the video you said "I'm ready, I'm ready!" And I said "NO, No you aren't !!! You will never be ready! She will hit you with a surprise that shocks you inner senses every time! She's been doing it to me for almost 10 years and thousands of times listening to her music and she still gets to me every time I hear a new song or a new rendition of one she has done before. She has done Unchained melody (my all time favorite song since I first heard it back in the 1950s) several times (at 8, 9, 11, and 3 times at 17). I was setting 30 feet from her when she sang it at her concert on Sept 22 2023 and before she finished the first line, I was crying! She slowed it way down, added more emotion than I had ever heard even from her and by the time she finished I knew she had just done that song better than anyone else! Then 3 months later at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony she shocked me again with the same song, but she did it very differently, and put an entirely different meaning to the song (more like the original from the movie "Unchained" in 1955)! I still cannot decide which version is best! You really should listen (react) to the Nobel peace prize version to see what she sounds like today (4 weeks ago)!
Please watch her Nobel Peace performance. honoring the Iranian woman whose life of activism for 10:19 women's rights has her imprisoned for many years . Her two children..the same age as Angelina were there accepting the award for her. The lovingly tender agony of longing for her children is almost too hard to beat. I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of it.
Her birthday was three days ago the 10th of January.. she is 18 years old and still making videos. Having an Angelina Day would make a perfect birthday celebration.

She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. Hi, tears in the eyes and goosebumps, that's completely normal, I feel like that all the time, she has something in her voice that you can't describe but these emotions hit you in your heart and soul and the effect is, I want to be a better person and it fills me with peace. Live in the studio and live on stage as well as her stage presence cannot be described. My biggest wish is to see her live in Germany

I must have listened to this performance 30 times in the weekend I discovered it. Many a tear fell from these old eyes as well; the natural reaction when something divine finds its way into our universe. It's the song that made me an Angelina fan. I'll point to two of the qualities that set Angelina's music apart from that of her peers: first, her vision for the song is absolute and not swayed by impediments such as physical age and size; second, the emotional authenticity that her choices of technique and dynamics convey. AJ is awesome, wonderful, a gift to every music lover the world over
You have to remember that by age nine she had already been training her voice 4-6 hours a day 7 days a week for 6 years, starting at age three when Angelina started watching jazz videos of Billie Holliday and other greats with her Grandma Mery. She didn’t come by these skills without a lot of hard work. She entered an afternoon school program where she was taught to read,deconstruct and rearrange music and play the piano and the guitar. Obviously she had an extremely high IQ or she wouldn’t have been able to absorb all of that at such a young age. The only vocal lessons she has ever had have been on how to not damage her vocal cords and how to take care of them.
Well you have over 200 performances to dive into with Angelina. And not one is bad.
The explanation for what we all are witnessing is that it's a miracle. A gift to us all.

I love when people say, before reacting to this video, “I’m ready!” Nope. There’s no way you can ever be prepared for this. I assert unequivocally that this is the most powerful, moving, and impressive vocal performance by any 9-year-old anywhere, ever. I’ve seen it hundreds of times and STILL it hits me hard. She started singing at one and a half years old and she started with jazz,, and English is not her native language, she also plays about four musical instruments, and writes music,, and has written a book about why she sings barefoot,, there is a Documentary, About her early years from one and a half up to 13 years old,, And it shows her singing at 1 and a half years old, A Whitney Houston song,,, Look up "" "" wrapped in a warm blanket "" "" , you might want to start with her youngest years first,, her first studio recording was at 6 years old,, Love! I say go ahead and indulge in taking it slow, starting with the younger years. There are thankfully 100s of videos of her, and she's not going anywhere. So many of the Jordan videos are good 'out of the box' and you won't need to look deeply to find the treasures. They're littered like glinting sand all over the shore. That said, I don't think doing modern AJ stuff and then going back will really be a problem. People have done it both ways and each performance stands on it's own. After all, we're not talking about the development of a single style or skill, but a cornucopia of styles and voices that each one are tuned to the specific kind of music required. Yes, there is progression over time, but it isn't as steep as it is broad if you consider how many different styles she's covered and composed. Have a great journey I'll be watching along. I'm a musician and tech so your engineering background is very relatable.

She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.

What the great reaction and response to Angelina's mind-blowing performance. You have to also realize she at 9 years old arranged this song with those studio musicians the way she wanted to sing it and delivered it in the most unbelievable fashion possible. You are totally right Angelina is an old soul and it just comes out through her vocals with all the jazz nuances, inflections, rasp, vibrato and dynamics necessary to deliver a song that is this iconic. She sounds like a season professional that has been singing for decades and witnessed all to sing this song in her life. She understands the lyrics and its uuncanny to watch ! . At that age to be able to deliver a meaningful, emotional, dynamic performance with all the control necessary. id unbelievable ! Be aware... she has two versions of a few songs, and both are worthy. For example, on her TV talent show, she has a karaoke SUMMERTIME version with a live trumpeteer, then three years later, she's in a daytime concert with a full orchestra, doing a slower version. She has an early summer outdoor festival version of FEELING GOOD, and six months later, she's on TV doing a glitzy sassy brassy version. They are all worth watching, and each occupied my Favorite Choice over time.
By the way, since 2017, I've put reactors into a classification of First-Words-Spoken. You belong in the "What-?!!" category... the reactions to her first one or two lines is a wonderful prediction for each reactor's sentiment.

Hi Find , I love your reaction to our barefooted princess and have subscribed for more reactions to Angelina.
This was the first thing I ever heard from Angelina. I had scrolled past it for two or three days as having seen the little girl and the song title I thought it was probably cute but little more. So I eventually went in cold. As you have just discovered, even being warned does little to prepare you for the reality. I ended up in tears too! It's like watching an athlete go past what you thought was humanly possible, and you are inspired by what humans can do.
That's what Angelina will do for you over and over and over again! I have listened to her nearly every day since and have absolutely become a better human being by doing so.

Here are some suggestion (keeping you being and audio engineer in mind): "I'm still holding out for you" (th-cam.com/video/Dv8mjCh5iiE/w-d-xo.html) was done when she was 10 and is a very nice studio recording with some interesting percussion sounds (I'm not sure if some of the sounds are reversed or just dampened very fast). She never released that officially so it is a fan made video. The artist writing the song released it later, but it is nowhere near as good as Angelina's version. "I'd rather go blind" (th-cam.com/video/pK8mMXQb3_I/w-d-xo.html) was recorded when she was 12 years old, just after she got the Neumann TLM 102 microphone as a birthday gift. You can see her holding the microphone the wrong way, but I don't know if it was intentional to get a different sound or more likely just because it was new to her. I think "Song for A" (th-cam.com/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/w-d-xo.html) was about the same time or maybe when she was 13. She was invited to sing on Nico Cartosio's album "Melting" and it was the only composition with lyrics (a poem by Robert Burns from 1783) on the album. It is different from everything else she has done, and there are to few reactions to it. There are two I would like you to do a double reaction to: "Mercy" (th-cam.com/video/7Mthm-9jECM/w-d-xo.html) was recorded for the movie "Hating game" in 2021 and "Our time" (th-cam.com/video/V59-OVZGiJg/w-d-xo.html) was released two months ago for a SoFi commercial. Both of them has more use of layered vocals (backing tracks in addition to the primary vocal) than what she usually do. I think Mercy is only her, while on Our time there is another woman as well.

It doesn't really matter how you go through her extensive catalog of music, but it is so diverse that I recommend you start with songs you know & like already, so you can appreciate how she changes & usually improves them over the original. I've been listening to good music since the 60's, played percussion in a "garage band" for over 20 years & I've never seen/heard anything like her before. She is a musical force like no other! I already subed for your Angelina journey last time & can't wait for more reactions.

don't you find that listening to young Angelina is actually a .... confrontation? No other singer has arrested me like this young lady. Her a-Capella audition of Billie Holiday's classic I'm A Fool To Want You was for me... evidence of something more than mere human talent. There I said it.

Yes of course 1,670 plus subscribers now. We already have AJ Mondays with Arab man reacts. Works well for his schedule most weeks. He had work hard on some weeks while traveling get out live. But he has help. Professional editor a great team. He has one reaction to, ‘suspicious minds,’ that has 280,000 views or maybe over 300,000 views. Over six months ago.

It is often overwhelming emotionally to watch, feel, and hear AJ sing. For me, it's a combination of some sort of existential conundrum - there is no explanation for this!
And then there is the emotion that she makes you feel. And then , she wiggles her way into your heart because of her nature - her humility and generosity...you feel so proud of her like she was your own child.

Angelina single handedly raised the bar for young female vocalists to new hights.
I like a reactionist who really understands the talent here. And you clearly do. I have heard everything this girl has done, and she is a mind blow! Many times, with an old school mic, always barefoot, black and white, no makeup. This is not about Angelina, she makes it about the music. Her voice is a slave to the music, just the way it should be!! Genius really.
There are so many hundreds of songs that you could check out that are all good not one bad one from Angelina. I could call out any number off the top of my head of songs and anyone you chose would be perfectly done superb but it would be nice if you could check out her rendition of “born to die” by Lana Del Rey, Angelina is only about 10 or 11 in this one. I think 11 is singing on a mic at home. Casually sitting down mind you this is not a studio performance, but it sure sounds like it. That’s how good her voice is she sounds like a grown mature woman three times her age and the song is perfectly done. You can’t believe that is coming out of this little girl she also has I believe 5 to 6 songs of her own and they’re all unbelievable. She was born January 10, 2006 and is currently just turned 18 years old. I must say it is no exaggeration pick any song you find her singing, and it will be better than anyone else’s rendition.

Quincy Jones called AJ the best talent since MJ. Then proceeded to have her open his 80th birthday concert with Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra's version) in the O2 Arena in London. She has so much musicality that she can cover a song, ending up 'owning' it, yet still respecting the source material and original artist, whether it's Billy Holiday or Adele. Btw, her 2023 EP 'Old Enough' is an absolute banger.
To me this goes far beyond talent: it is a gift Angelina has. In an interview in 2014 (she was 8 at the time) Angelina said "I think music has found me". And in another interview, when she was about the same age, "For me singing is like breathing". Since she was 8, Angelina is heavily involved in every arrangement of the songs she sings or, like this one(!!) she writes the arrangement herself... That little paper at the start of this video are her instructions for the musicians. Isn't that tell the story? And to this day that has not changed. No doubt: Angelina is working very, very, hard to reach her goals and her record label has provide her her own studio where she can "do her magic" whenever she feels inspiration to do so. Now Angelina is 18 and we all have to wait and see what is comming. When you like to know where Angelina is comming from: watch this British documentary on TH-cam: "Born to sing, Angelina Jordan. The early years, 2006-2014". And more recently (just a few weeks ago) "Arab Man Reacts" has made a really wonderful video "Angelina-The Next Great One" about Angelina's carrier so far. Both are very informative and worth to watch.
