I get -1.41 pretty commonly on stage 1 OTS. According to MAPerformance (the tuner), -1.41 is a normal number for these cars and nothing to worry about. I've also confirmed that it's easily triggered by turning on the A/C, although, I have had -1.41 several times without the A/C on. I don't ever get any knock readings under heavy throttle though.
Exactly, sometimes I’ve gotten 2.81 because it reads it twice sometimes. But it’s just the ac so it’s fine, I only knew something was wrong with my o2 sensor when my DAM dropped to 0.875
Good review, been running stage 2 on my 2015 for over 20k miles, much louder, faster, especially at top of RPM band. Shows what Subaru can get out of the FA20 wi. A few mods.

The knock sensors on these cars old and new are super finicky and pick up every and any little thing as knock. Like a heat shield rattle or a loose bolt clanking around somewhere and especially bad gas. I was also told this when I initially got my car tuned and that so long as youre not seeing higher numbers under heavy load or wot(preferably 0) and that your DAM stays at 16(older cars) or 1 (newer) youre fine. Even with a pro tune seeing little things here n there is normal unless your tuner adjusts the knock listening parameters(?) to not pick up certain frequencies etc. Thats what they usually do so you may only ever see actual "bad" knock events, tho otherwise youd still see little readings pop up every now n then.
Rather than guessing if it's real or fake in hopes that a heat shield is rattling - pour some high octane fuel in your tank. If your knock sensors no longer pick anything up. It was real
feedback is basically clutch so honestly i wouldn’t even monitor it, i was getting -11 sometimes because my clutch was fucked but fine is what you should worry about except -1.41 but anything more than that you should be worried
@@walkerbond1907 you want to shop at gas stations that are busy so yiu know the gas isnt sitting. In Dallas we have up to %10 ethanol which when sits turn to water thus lowering octane.

I live in California and smog is so tight I was told that the intake is CARB legal all I have to do is re flash my access port . That what someone told me .
Any upgrade to the cold air intake requires a pro tune. I'm just about in that boat myself. I've got GS stealthbox coming in 3 weeks and I'm going to do a E-tune until I get my GS catted J pipe. And than I'll go into a shop for a pro tune
Anything is better than stock tune, so as long as the risk of either by happenstance or because of q bad tune, you have warranty work denied. I'm really starting to grow comfortable with the risk because it's one of the worst cars to drive I've ever had and I've had slow ass grocery getters up till now if that tells you anything. It's becoming depressing driving this tbh, my 2014 Ford focus se 165 hp 5 speed was more fun to drive more responsive, and I've already replaced lower end in the wrx at 28k, no fault of my own. I drove my slow focus hard almost all the time and its motor head up fine, had 230k miles upon trading it.
Yeah, Subaru made these engines with more knock sensors since the engine is direct injection. They employed a more proactive approach to knock control. Nothing to be worried about! Now if you go WOT and get bigger knock numbers, then be worried. If your DAM is at 1, you’re golden.
as long as your not getting knock at wot it's fine. I've been on MaPerformance tune and I get it when I am in slow traffic shifting back and forth and the ac being on. it's catching the shifts and ac on
@Stev3 yes and had no problems. car runs 90 percent better then stock. better gas mpg, feels alot better and more power. I have exhaust also and some bushings and shifter mods, but that's about it besides wheels and some other goodies. I know people who have been on there tune 4 years now and no problems. Eventually I will go with an e tune from a guy that I heard nothing but good about. But he's in California so I would have to do it online (e tune) with a tuner doing data log back and forth. If I was closer I would definitely drive there and get a protein from him. What to eat tuna is just as good. I always wash my air fuel ratio, knock and everything else. Because obviously it is off the shelf tune, but I've never had any problems. So in the next couple months I'm going to go ahead and get that etune, I think it's around six hundred bucks
I also get the -1.41, sometimes at wot, but mostly just when driving with the a/c on. Not too worried about it. Been on the MAP stage 1 tune for about 3 months. I agree it is a major improvement from the stock tune.
I have the Invidia Catless Downpipe connected to my OEM midpipe and nameless muffler deletes. After really beating on my car the DAM Dropped as low as .638. The fact that theses cars are soo fragile sucks the fun out of it.

Nothing to be too concerned about until you start hitting -3 and so on.
Next year I might consider doing a stage 1 tune.
you should do a stage 1 tune the second you roll off the dealer's lot man...the stock tune is CRAPOLA
I agree, I only went 1k before I did a stage 1 tune on my 2020. Totally worth it, it does smooth things out, plus you get a little hp out of it.

my two cents. when i tune i run a 91 tune on 93 octane gas. if 93 isnt available and e85 is you can put a small amount to compensate i believe.
I second this, I run 93 gas with 91 tunes. I also refuse to go to cheepo gas stations such as sheetz.

-1.41 is usually the AC compressor or false knock
I always get it with the AC on but while I’m down the pull, I’ll see it appear. It didn’t do that on stage 1. Im really picky with those things
