She wasn't famous in the 70's. She bolted to fame in the mid-eighties as a young graduate of Tufts University. But yes, she has aged gracefully.

She does not need back up singers in my opinion- her voice is amazing. When I was a child my mum and her siblings loved her music and I surprised myself to see I still remember lyrics of the famous songs 😊 thanks to the Grammys I have now listened to many of her songs this past week !

It was early 2000s in Houston at a club called Chances. I stepped on the stage and sang this song with a live band. It was wonderful. The audience was really receptive. No experience has ever matched that.

So, I was living on a very old farm in the south of West Germany in the 80s, and I made a pilgrimage to the Big City (Stuttgart) every month or so, and one time, since my German hippie roommate had acquired/cobbled together a CD player, I stopped into one of those record shops on the Koenigsstrasse, or whatever that main shopping district high street might be called, and I bought 6 CDs. The only two I remember with any certainty are XTC's Skylarking and the epic, breakout album from Tracy Chapman. Love on a Farm Boy's Wages and Give Me One Reason are still in constant rotation on my mind's stereo.
