    Fun Fact: this movie is what started the phenomenon of naming something Steve to make it less scary.

    • @tycol322
      @tycol322 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Funnier fact. I can't remember the full details but there was a group of amatuer (I think) astronomers in the 2010s (I think) that discovered a previously unseen astrial phenomenon and after seeing this movie chose to name it Steve for that reason. The name was later canonized by turning it into the acronym S.T.E.V.E. Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement

      Is that why the original host of Blue's Clues was called Steve?

    This movie is severely underrated. I LOVE is so much. The cast is great, the animation is great, the story is great, the comedy is great! I still want a sequel however since Garry Shandling passed away, I don't think it'll happen. Nobody else can do Vern justice.

    • @nicolasbaron4506
      @nicolasbaron4506 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I said this in my comment, but I think DreamWorks didn't think the box office was good enough (while profitable) to warrant a sequel, and the studio had more stuff on their plate.

      @@nicolasbaron4506 I should mention they were actually perfectly willing to do more (or at least so I’ve heard), but that they ended up undergoing disagreements with United Media (who at the time owned the rights to the newspaper comic this film is based on) that left Dreamworks feeling bitter enough to cancel a planned sequel AND a planned Pearls Before Swine movie. And ultimately, all further reasonable chances of a sequel at this point have been given extra deep final nails in their coffin in the form of Garry Shandling’s death in 2016 and Bruce Willis’s aphasia diagnosis and subsequent retirement in 2022.

    Fun trivia about the scene when Hammy the Squirrel drinks caffeine and everything around him slows down
    In the Sonic Hedgehog movie, there is a similar scene when Sonic moves so fast that everything around him slows down. People asked the director if they got that idea from the Quicksilver scene from X-Men Days Of Future Past, but he didn't, he got it from this movie
    Yeah I agree seeing those clips of Over The Hedge here, it definitely was better to me when I was a kid. It's not a bad movie, just one that's okay.

    Seriously, one of the best animated films ever made. The perfect animated moment: Hammy drinking the energy drink and he moves so fast, everything else is in slow motion, including the laser light. I always bust a gut on that scene! So glad you reacted to it. A sign of taste!

  • @nicolasbaron4506
    @nicolasbaron4506 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Ah, yes! One of my favorite films from my childhood! Over the Hedge is definitely one of DreamWorks' underrated films! I'm honestly surprised that we haven't gotten a sequel to this. But I guess the film, while it was profitable ($339.7 million against an $80 million budget), didn't do nearly as well at the box office than something like the first Shrek ($488 million) or Madagascar ($542 million), and DreamWorks probably had other stuff on their plate like sequels to their hits (Shrek and Madagascar) and newer projects (Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon).

    • @austingillum4807
      @austingillum4807 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, Dreamworks initially WERE willing to make a sequel, but changed their minds after disagreements with the people who owned the rights to the Over the Hedge comic strip at the time left them with a bad taste in their mouth.

  • @Supiragon1998
    @Supiragon1998 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Yes, finally! Also, yes, turtles are attached to their shells, as their shells are almost completely just modified spine and ribs (at least the top part of it), but this movie is about fun (with a banger soundtrack), not education. Also, now I recommend Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Flushed Away and Chicken Run.

    Australian here;
    The reason why the Rabbit-Fence is still up is because... taking it down would be a waste of time. It cost the equivalent of 6 and a half Million dollars to place up, and then turned out not to work anyway, so since it doesn't do the one thing it was made for, it being there or not doesn't change anything, so might as well save the money and keep it up!
    It's like asking why the Great Wall of China isn't taken down; it's harmless, and its a good piece of history. (Also; Great Wall of China, Rabbit Proof fence, basically the same thing as a lot of Aussies will tell you XD )

    Rabbits are not native to Australia. But thanks to the European settlers they are everywhere these days, destroying farmland. Australia does not have many predatory animals, have you ever heard the expression breeding like rabbits. So, it is very hard to keep their numbers down. So, farmers put up a fence to try and protect areas of farmland from the rabbit.
