I have listened to this a thousand times. Totally unadulterated magic, certainly Camper's best and in my top 50 songs of all time. So simple, but so gorgeous.
Where is my 'Telephone Free Landslide Victory' cassette?! What box did I leave it in? Damn. One of my brothers must have it, so it must be either in Toronto or in Annapolis, Maryland. And I call myself a fan...
I'm only seeing this video now for the first time - but I really can't imagine a better video interpretation of it. I'm kind of obsessed with this video. I was already obsessed with the song. Terrific work!
@SickDog2008 Me too. It was my first REM show so I was a little star-struck, but I left the show and bought everything Camper had put out. I think that was the "Camper II & III" album tour. To this day I have more Camper on rotation on the iPod than REM.
One of my favorite types of bands are the ones who are funny and weird and defy classification. Like these guys, Primus, Butthole Surfers, The Mothers of Invention, Ween, etc
This is one of many great CVB songs....my other favorites are MY belated path, WAKA, Borderline, Tania, take the skinheads bowling, NEVER GO BACK and EYE OF FATIMA and ONE OF THESE DAYS and DISCOTHEQUE
Saw CVB play this at a tiny bar in Eugene to a house so packed it spilled out into 13th street. For some reason they didn't want to play Where, Where the hell is Bill.
Bradley Nowell from Sublime brought me here. You have to give a listen to "Lou dog went to the moon" acoustic on youtube! Great cover with tons of raw emotion.
There are a lot mainstream bands right now that I think would be decent live. For me, the main thing is I can't get over how shitty and generic all CD are recorded to sound like... really cold, synthetic, and processed. When you listen to albums and songs from the 80's and early 90's, the recordings had just as much personality as the music. Personally, I think there is actually much more good music now than ever, but everything really forward thinking alienates more people than it mesmerizes.
@HomleandSecurity -- actually, I think I did answer your question, giving you the benefit of being able to take a statement like "sure -- that's a valid measuring stick. I think that particular path would qualify "Hall and Oates" as the greatest American band of the 80s." I think that statement pretty much guarantees that I no Camper Van Beethoven did not do so well in the "No. 1 hit department." Would make you all tingly if I answered it exactly -- as in they were not a pop band ...
@HomleandSecurity ... but an "alt" band before Alt bands sold any records (Nirvana breaking the dam). Therefore they most assuredly did not have any No. 1 hits. Do you feel full and sated now?
@HomleandSecurity I am saying with absolute certainity they NEVER had a No. 1 hit. "Take the Skinheads Bowling" was not even a No. 1 College Radio hit. Top Ten Village Voice poll -- yes.
@HomleandSecurity .... and to continue, there are other ways to judge too -- critical acceptance, number of bands that claim they as an influence, numbers of times there songs are covered, put in movies, etc. Or -- this could just be my opinion as a fan. I believe the phrase "art is subjective" might apply too. OK, keep on fighting the good fight on TH-cam comments section and hopefully you can change the world ...
@maddymud You seem pretty obsessed with me, constantly replying and trying to tell me about the music you're into. Have you fallen in love with me that quickly? It's understandable, just a bit surprising. I tend to not rush into romantic relationships on the Internet, and you should be careful about that too.
@HomleandSecurity Oooooo -- you've reached your conclusion! You manuevered me into saying they had zero hits and then -- BOOM! Your sweeping generalization. Again, referring to my earlier statement -- they are many measures as to a band's success. You, have now decided to narrow the definition of success down to talent. So, under your definition -- The Velvet Underground has zero talent. The Pixies have zero talent. Only popular acceptance defines talent. Uh, okay ...
@HomleandSecurity no, all you did was say a band that I, and many others on this page like very much has "zero talent." Based on a criteria determined solely by you. I was actually nice and cordial most of the through the process. But you make a statement like that, and then call someone "defensive" when they react. Please. Zzzzzzz.
@HomleandSecurity You are funny! I'm sorry, let me stop my life right now to make sure you get your question of five hours ago answered. Apparently, "No. 1 Hits" is your criteria for what makes a band, good or great. Well, instead of calling you a "fuck face," I'm going to say -- sure, that's a valid measuring stick. I think that particular path would qualify "Hall and Oates" as the greatest American band of the 80s ...
I have listened to this a thousand times. Totally unadulterated magic, certainly Camper's best and in my top 50 songs of all time. So simple, but so gorgeous.
Love how Sublime covered this masterpiece
I love how we all have access to so much brilliant music. This being another example.
I clicked "play" before knowing this was from 1985. Mind blown a little. Also, cool stuff. Also, RIP Lou Dog.
Beautiful, I think. Tanks a lot.
I adore that version and I had no idea it was a Camper Van Beethoven song. Wow. That's awesome.
We have a new radio station that only plays 60s and 70s music. It also doesn't have commercials which is kind of strange, but I'm enjoying the music.
This video!! 😂😂Brings back great memories!
Fantastic song, fantastic video!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
The Day
... brilliant song and great shots from Lassie
HAHAHA F'n great video! Very Camper... Always loved this whole album , always will.

This video is perfect for this song.
Where is my 'Telephone Free Landslide Victory' cassette?! What box did I leave it in? Damn. One of my brothers must have it, so it must be either in Toronto or in Annapolis, Maryland. And I call myself a fan...
i´ve been listening to brad´s version "lou dog went to the moon" for a long time, funny to finally listen to the original!
thx for the upload
I'm only seeing this video now for the first time - but I really can't imagine a better video interpretation of it. I'm kind of obsessed with this video. I was already obsessed with the song. Terrific work!
God bless you Lassie, Camper, the moon.
Thx Jessiegirl. Great song- one of my favs.
I saw CVB at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas back in the day.
Cool venue! Too bad it's torn down.we would bowl a game while drinking beers, then attend the show.
ah, the greatest american band of the 80s ... nice work, thanks!
I love C V B. one of favourite bands of the 80"s
Fantastic quality on the transfer. So good, it's a shame your vanity chose to overlap it with the video clip audio, even by a few seconds.
I heard Lou Dog went to the moon as well. ;)
Just cryin' reading that
@SickDog2008 Me too. It was my first REM show so I was a little star-struck, but I left the show and bought everything Camper had put out. I think that was the "Camper II & III" album tour. To this day I have more Camper on rotation on the iPod than REM.
Great video. I love CVB. Thanks for the up.
THIS IS GREAT! DO MORE LIKE THIS!
i just heard this song on RRR FM in australia, so I quickly rushed to the computer to look it up... its great!

Really great work putting that together, nice effort!
Bradley from Sublime covered this when Louie Dog was stolen outside of a bar. Only it's called The Day Lou Dog went to the Moon.
My dad introduced me to “ take the skinheads bowling” and it was all down hill from there
should be a good downhill ride tbh!
Clickumentary hell yeah brother
Good dad

Just as awesome as 1983!
ALTERA HISTORIA DU ROCK❤

That is very cool. It's a great video for that song.
Thank God my children love this song. Otherwise they would have nothing good to listen to. Since it's on my rotation.
Thank you.
@maddymud No, I was thinking they had 1 or 2 number 1 hits. Are you saying they had none?
Thank you!
i like it.
Yeah, well done! Never seen the crack-up video before.
Now this song is stuck in my head 12 years later. How does this happen???
35 years for me! Enjoy!
Same. Old friends from UCSC days.
this reminds of my dog blackie back in the days
reminds me of my old dog 'pugsy'. yes he was a pug
Genius.

Che pezzo da paura. Dio.
@maddymud You wrote all that without answering my question. How many #1 hits did they have?
The Day Harold Camping went to the Moon (May 22, 2011)

That looks my last dog. May he rest in peace June 2008.
Hey Dicer, miss you. RIP
yeah it was. but i appreciate your sentiment anyway ;-)
I think Lassie's "escape" footage was from the original movie with Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor...
nicely TH-camd, though - thanks!
Telstar62a It was, but it fit so I used it.
That was the only Lassie movie I've seen. It came up on the tv twice, so I strapped in not once but twice.
I miss my dog 😢
this rules!
@maddymud So, you're saying this band is irrelevant. Zero #1 hits means zero talent.
@HomleandSecurity I am saying with absolute certainity they NEVER had a No. 1 hit. "Take the Skinheads Bowling" was not even a No. 1 College Radio hit. Top Ten Village Voice poll -- yes.

Lassie is not that far from Laika when one thinks of it.
+pfirman Go Leika! UR sovSpirit lives forever.
Effin Classic.

An Italian will make Thanksgiving Dinner out of a rat…. That dog is Filet Mingnon…
For a family of Furry Backs
the ending has a Nirvana sound to it.

lmao the editing of this video is so 2008
before the advent of beautiful 4K
That sucks, poor puppy
🤙🏻💯😎🙏🏻
I think you mean Nirvana sounds like the end of this song.

Sigh. High school in the eighties wasn't so bad.
