I’ll do the washing drying folding and I will ship it back to you, “free matter for the blind“. It should not cost us anything as we are both blind and should be able to ship whatever we want to at whatever frequency we wish, at no cost, right? Seriously, I would be jumping over the apartment management with your issue and finding a way to use those washers and dryer‘s that are there for you and everyone else in the complex. Oh my gosh! This is awesome! I was just talking to a family member about washing machines and how are most of them nowadays are not made accessible for blind people. Glad to know there’s some thing out there that exists for when I get my own place!
Hi Nicole, I had gotten fed up with my old machine along time ago but did not do research to find out how to replace it. Finally, my frustration level was so high that we decided to replace the old one, very high efficiency, very high end, with Green flashing lights and LED messages on a flat control panel, with a less expensive model with, click, click, control Diles. Using the decals from The pin friend Three, my husband just read the functions that were printed on the manual, out loud into the pen friend and this works like a charm. For me at least. With your cognitive functioning and phenomenal memory, you probably would not even need the props from the pin friend. I am just a little bit more, mature? I need some verbal prompting and I don’t want to go ask anybody. Stay happy and safe! Love, Beverly

I hope these manual dial washers don’t go away or, if they do, there better be other accessible methods to operating these appliances I was so excited when I saw a demonstration of a talking box that Sam, on the TH-cam channel “the blonde life“ reviewed. The box is only around $10 and plugs into a GE washer or dryer. Unfortunately, when reviewing the only model that this box is compatible with, the reviews were horrible. So I don’t think it is a very inclusive to have a talking washer or dryer that has poor consumer reviews. All I want is what every one else wants. Hi Angela, yes, I am very much enjoying the new washer and being able to select any control setting that I would like. The device, Penn friend Three, was given to me by my sister for a belated birthday gift and Jerry is recording the word for word instructions or description on too many of my other appliances and other devices. Wow, I cannot believe that you are in such a heat wave. I bet that it is extremely humid where you are. The heat is so much worse when added to humidity. Hey Beverly: Your washer sounds a lot like the ones I have in my building. I'm hoping these stick around for a long time and when they go, my landlord will replace them with machines that are similar. I think the high-tech washers are great, but it's sad that they aren't accessible for all of us. Also, the Penfriend rocks! Wags
ended up getting me a washer and dryer set made by whirlpool that was similar to this maytag that you showed in this video. these are definitely easy to use. highly recommend. yep.
I love that new washer! Congratulations. My washer and dryer are almost identical to your old one and it’s horrible for a visually impaired person to use. This one looks so simple and user friendly for us. I will definitely be looking for one like this eventually. Oh and I love the device you use that talks back to you. Hi David, I was overdue in uploading this video because my old one was not useful so we bought this lesser expensive one. So far, I am absolutely delighted because I don’t need anyone’s help to set any of the function I just was chatting with several blind consumers on Facebook who are in the same position and wanted recommendations on how to use the electronica control panel on high end washers. So I uploaded this because so far, this is the most accessible washer I have operated. Even when I was at the Seeing Eye campus, all the washer and dryer‘s were marked in braille and of course, I cannot read braille so I would drag a braille reader down three flights of stairs with me and our dogs and my laundry so they could help me set the machines. LOL sometimes I feel like I’m in the twilight zone! Can’t read print and can’t read braille. But, that’s another video. The device that I used with the stick on decals is called a pin friend Three. My sister just gave it to me as a belated birthday present and I’m going to do a video on how I am now using it. It is really a helpful device when you can’t read print and you need quick access. So Anthony, I finally got a washer that I can completely operate without any other person being around. The pin friend Three is amazing and it just hangs next to the washer on a strap. I use it for a lot of other things but it’s kind of disheartening to know that, I as a blind consumer cannot go to the store and buy a high end washer that is accessible.. So far, however, this washer cleans quite well and I am elated that, other than checking for stains, I can complete the whole laundry task independently. IB Jones, sorry for the delay in my response but thanks for connecting. My sister actually gave me the friend pin as a birthday gift and I believe she ordered it from A company called, Maxi aids.com. Are you familiar with Maxi aids? They have always specialized in low vision products and products for the blind and now have products for people with various disabilities as well. The friend pin is so cool and hi am now in the process of organizing all of my holiday and Christmas decorations in Nate boxes labeled on the outside with the friend pin stickers. I can even add a reminder, through the audio recording, too tell me which room I have previously placed the items in previous years.
