Just sharing, when it comes to SSD, 3 criteria u guys should know: 1. Form factor : 2.5" and M.2 2. Interface/slot/port : SATA and PCIe 3. Protocol : SATA and NVME
@@Arjun-ih8qj depends on what laptop specs actually. Nowadays, laptop are equipped with M.2 SSD using PCIe slot (which waayy faster than 2.5" SSD). You can just search on Google your laptop specs.
Thank you very much for your video. My Dell Inspiron 5582 laptop died and I wanted to pull the hard drive. I've never seen a SSD hard drive this small!!! I have been scrubbing the internet to find an enclosure for it.... PCIe NVMe 2230 reader. I found some, but you are the first one that I saw actually put a 2230 inside one!!! I'm grateful I finally found your video.
Thanks for verifying that while an M.2 SATA drive has both the notch for a B and M key, the header may only have the B key and omit the M key. This really had me concerned on the drive header on my motherboard. Thank you.
THANKS! This is exactly what I needed, and within a minute and a half of the video starting. Thanks for the help! (I needed to be sure of M, B&M, or B key.)
brother. on the 1st adapter, you don't need tape. the brass nub at the end unscrews, you move it to the right hole, and the end of the drive slots into it, then you screw it back in securing the drive. Taping an nvme is a horrible idea.
When chosing a M2 sata use a bigger size than before while they perform a little bit better. They noticed that in tests with same type/brand. If possible use a NVMe, otherwise a bigger size M2 sata.
Interesting video, but I would like to know if there is any difference between SSD 2237 and 2280. I want to change the SSD in my laptop, the installed model is Lexar SSD NVME 790_2237, I searched everywhere and I can only find it with 2280. And I don't know if it fits in the laptop 2280. I do NOT even know what that 2237 and 2280 mean. Thank you!
I know.... Does this guy think that brand new adapter from Amazon doesn't come with the screw? Or maybe he didn't know how to use it? Because the screw usually screws in from from the back and screws into a slotted nut that holds the card in place.
Yeah the adapter should have came with a screw you can also buy a set of laptop screws and it should come with some. The screw is an M2 X 2.5mm and if you just want to buy that directly Amazon has them for like 5 bucks for 16 but I just get a screw kit for computers or laptops and make sure it comes with that screw because a kit is like 8 - 12 bucks and comes with various other screws you may need one day.
@@johnsmith8981no, some of these have a round disc with a slot which is also the nut for the screw and the screw actually screws into the back side. I'm assuming these are that type because the ones that just take a screw usually have the nut portion perma mounted on the boards. Realistically though, you can come up with a million solutions better than bubblegum, or whatever he said in the video.
I was gonna defend him... like yeah I understand using tape if you need to. You know the first example wasn't that out of pocket, there literally wasn't a screw hole and realistically tape probably wouldn't cause an issue. Then I watched the rest of the video and it's clear that this man just has a fetish for taping SSDs to things, like I get it, I won't yuck his yum but this really feels like watching an old Nickelodeon live action TV show and counting the thinly veiled attempts of someone to shove feet into the plot unnecessarily.
Is it possable to cut down a 2280 to a 2230 size? From what I see it looks like all the components would be undamaged. The traces are for optional testing pads and the screw hole ground.. I do wounder.. I have a 1TB drive I got for free.. I would be willing to find out.
Sir, My laptop model ASUS VIVOBOOK X510U. I purchased Crucial P2 M.2 2280 500GB. I can’t understand this SSD support my laptop or not. Please tell me 🙏
It seems like the M only drives (on the right there) could physically be plugged into the B+M slotted reader (on the left) What would happen? Would that reader be able to read the drive? Would the drive be damaged?
Thank you for the review. Do you or anyone know any adapter for a MacBook pro-2017 A1708 model 22 + 34 pins SSD for external reading via USB-A or C? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Shit, how did you even get sata to work in yours? I tried the mkey stick and the stick in a 2.5. that was after trying it in a new HP Zbook. It's this and a billion other reasons why I hate HP. Unfortunately in the business world they exist as much as Dell or Lenovo. At least the server products aren't total sht but I have still have a list. Servers want the actual iso on the stick and then you have to use the stupid hp tools. The MSA arrays can run both controllers at once, the Dell MD can. 😂
You can run anything on anything. You can run it on USB if you want. It's gonna be slow AF but it will work. Can probably find some crazy Chinese adapter to run it over IDE with a separate power source, how much u wanna bet I can find an adapter and I can tell you why they exist.
Hello. I have a doubt regarding the M2 ssd that has B+M Key. The ssd has no sticker that indicates which side is up and how it should be plugged into the slot. How can I know the correct position? Because I imagine they have a right side that is up, after all it fits on both sides. When it is only M key we know that it only connects in one position.
If there's no sticker on the drive signifying the top, just look at the outside pins, when the drive is facing up the right side pins should be five and the left has six
@@FreshtexBlackman Hi Freshtex, thanks for the explanation. I noticed that the notch that the ssd has even though it's B+M, it won't fit if it's inverted (at least on this notebook I'm dealing with). I don't know how it is on other notebooks that have the M.2 slot. But we still need to be careful since if we connect it upside down we can damage the ssd. Once again, thanks for the explanation.
Please for the love of God do not tape a SSD to the adapter. The adapter should come with a stand off and screw to properly install that drive. If not then please also purchase a computer stand off and screw when getting this adapter.

Im confused, so M Key SSDs are only compatible to M Slots? Or could they be used in B+M Slots?
If i understood correctly M card can be use only in M slot however M+B card can be used in M, B or M+B. Unfortunately he didn't show in the video.

What type of M.2 SSDs can fit into Jetson tx2 M.2 slot? I have 3 M.2 SSDs but none of them fit into the slot.

I do not see why it would damage the SSD. Need to get the right SSD USB Adapter to read.
